VEX KING | Writer & Mind Coach Profile Information

I once heard someone say that nearly every human being is selfish. Even their most loving motives have a selfish need. For example, when you pray for your family's wellbeing, usually it's because you can't imagine your life without them. Yes, you love them and want the best for them. However, you want them to stay alive and be around, so you don't have to suffer without their presence.
.
This idea can also apply to personal relationships. I often feel that people will stay with someone, even when they don't have a good reason to, because they can't imagine being alone. In their mind, they are putting their partner first, above their own needs. However, you'll often discover their behaviour is still self-serving – but it's a need born out of fear.
.
No type of relationship is perfect – troubles are the norm, and they encourage growth. Nevertheless, when the negatives outweigh the positives, and your intuition tells you that you deserve better, it's usually time to move on. Again, this might seem selfish, but your reason for staying is probably selfish too. It only makes sense to move forward towards more joy, instead of holding back due to fear.
.
People don't like feeling uncomfortable or lonely, and they don't like facing the unknown; it scares them. This is why some people don't pursue their dreams. This constant fear keeps us facing mediocrity. We're so scared of what might go wrong or how we might feel if our circumstances change, that we try our best to keep things the same; even if they are always hurting us.
.
Life is always changing, and you have to change with it. You might face troubles, and depending on your level of growth, you might suffer. But, if you stay stuck, you will hinder your growth and remain at a state of suffering for the majority of your life. Move on with faith. Being alone is nothing to fear – it's an opportunity to realize how amazing it can be, once you begin to love yourself. Plus, once you practice self-love, you'll experience more people and situations that love you back.

Intuition is your ability to sense things before you experience them, without any logic. For this reason, we often neglect our gut feeling because there is no rational foundation from which it has formed. We prefer acting on ideas derived from rigid thought-processes which are supported by evidence.
.
Often, people find it difficult to distinguish between intuition and insecurity/anxiety. Fear-based thoughts produce these unpleasant feelings. Your gut is like a nudge from your soul, whereas, feelings produced by ideas rooted in fear (such as paranoia) are unconscious whisperings of your conditioning and emotional history. Therefore, your intuition will always come to you calmly, even if the feeling isn't associated with anything that you deem favourable. Intuition will always tell you what you need to hear in the calmest way possible.
.
The greatest challenge many of us face is not knowing how to access our intuition, or at least, hear it. But, just from the explanation above, we get an idea of what state we need to be in to receive messages from our gut. We need to be unobstructed by thought (overthinking), and we need to be completely relaxed.
.
For me, the easiest way to access my most profound truths is through meditation/mindfulness or deep-breathing. Merely living in the present moment and allowing the body to detach from any tension created by the mind, can help you download data from your intuition. Instead of letting old subconscious patterns play out, you begin to retrieve information from a higher plane.
.
When I try to tune into my intuition intentionally. I simply:
1. Go to a quiet environment where I can relax and sit down.
2. Play calming music, such as "Weightless" by Marconi Union.
3. Take deep breaths in and out, paying attention to each breath.
4. Notice any ideas that come in, which disrupt the attention to my breath.
5. Write down the insights that come up without judging or attaching myself to them.
.
This is only one way I can tune into my intuition, and it works tremendously. I'm able to find answers without the need of doing any in-depth analysis or losing my cool.
.

The next time a situation triggers you, take a pause for 15 minutes. Walk away from the trigger if possible, and reframe the situation by rationally challenging your thoughts. For example, if someone spills something on you, you could tell yourself that it could have been much worse – this is true and will suck the momentum out of the thoughts that leave you mentally enraged.
.
Remember, your choices define you, not other people. They can help you rise or be your downfall. Every vibration of thought, word, emotion and action is bringing in something that resonates on the same frequency. Always choose an empowering response which brings you closer to greatness, happiness and love.
.
You don’t always get to choose the circumstances, but you get to choose how you respond to them and therefore, how you define your life. You get to decide how your future will look. Self-awareness and spiritual growth is understanding that hurting others, only ends up hurting you.

Type a 'YES' if you accept this prayer, and you're ready for your blessing to arrive ❤️🙏🏽💫
.
Scroll across to see an image taken at the Tirta Empul Temple (Holy Water Temple) in Bali, which has been around for over a thousand years. I visited recently during our honeymoon. Although I was feeling sick, I was adamant about going into the water to pray and carry out the purification ceremony. Some say this is a great place for a miracle to happen.
.
According to legend, a Hindu God named Indra defeated an arrogant Balinese king named Mayadenawa and created healing springs of holy water. Many come here to remove evil and cleanse their bodies & souls – because they believe that the water is infused with magical powers, as the myth suggests.
.
Whether you believe the story and practice a different religion, or not, this place is undoubtedly beautiful. It can feel rejuvenating to anyone who wishes to take part in the cleansing ritual. They say the spring is the source of life and prosperity, and I certainly felt the healing properties as I bathed, prayed and meditated.
.
I probably took much longer than everyone else, but when I pray, I give my all. I also pray for everyone, including all of you – those who have connected to me.
.
Over the years, people have labelled me as spiritual, a believer of woo-woo and pseudoscience, a mystic, a disbeliever of religion, amongst other things. They have used labels to suggest that I no longer believe in God, and therefore, I no longer pray. The truth is, I have never stopped praying, and my understanding of God, prayer and everything around me has evolved. Maybe those who meditate daily, and deeply, will understand the true nature of God that I have come to experience. Everyone who prays has a different relationship with God; each is personal. Different belief systems also lead each one of us, but this doesn't mean we can't pray for each other using the one we follow.
.
Faith is to believe in the unseen, but it is also the path to the unseen. I hope you can have faith in the goodness that's set to come into your life. Scroll across to the end to discover four easy ways to build your faith 👉🏽

My friend @t0nit0ne recently said: “Some people aren't good at asking for help because they're so used to being the helper.” I believe a lot of you may relate to this; those with an empathetic nature usually end up in the caretaker role where they look after others while neglecting their own needs.
.
Some of us tend to put others before ourselves. For the most part, this is necessary, especially if we want to encourage more love in the world. Selflessness is one of the quickest ways to realize yourself, and therefore, the Divine.
.
However, often, we mistake self-harm for selflessness. We try to "fix" or raise others while hurting ourselves. Sometimes, it'll take an extreme situation, such as a complete mental breakdown, to make you realize that you've been ignoring your own needs. This turning point can encourage people to practice more self-care.
.
Attending to yourself more may mean that you cannot be as present in other people's lives. This could have implications when it comes to your relationships. Rarely do people like change, especially if it translates to discomfort or a lack of luxury. If you were getting £200 in the post every week from a provider, and suddenly they stopped giving it to you without an explanation, you may feel bummed about not receiving that extra money. You may even feel like you're not worthy of it anymore.
.
This is why when we often say “no” to others, by saying “yes” to ourselves, people can find it challenging to come to terms with. They may label your change as negative, or they may suddenly hold a grudge against you. They might even fabricate a story about your change of behaviour by creating a narrative which continues to keep them in a positive light. They'll do this so they don't have to question their own character… Scroll across and read the rest of this post 👉🏽

Happy Birthday to my amazing wife @kaushal, I dedicate this to post to you 🎂 It is often because of your greatness that I realized mine. I love you ❤️ Thank you for being on this journey with me and for being such an integral part of so many people's lives 🙏🏽 This might not be the post people expect, but I want them to know that you're carved out of failures, heartbreaks and people who couldn't respect you, but, that's exactly what makes you a beautiful and empowering woman.
.
There have been times you felt uncomfortable in your own skin. Where you felt like you weren't good enough because society set a standard for beauty, which you felt like you didn't meet. You were made to believe that beauty was a particular way, such as a certain weight, shape, or height. They told you that beauty meant no scars, no stretch marks, and no bags under your eyes. The parts you've often tried to hide are the ones that I love most.
.
You've worked tirelessly to build a better future for yourself and your loved ones, despite facing challenges around inequality in the world.
.
You always do your best, but sometimes, you're made to feel like your best isn't good enough. There are people out there who haven't treated you with the respect you deserve. They haven't valued your worth. They have belittled and mocked you for what they perceive as flaws – flaws that mirror their insecurities. This treatment has broken your heart, sank you into your tears, and created a pain that you may have involuntarily shared with others.
.
You have made mistakes, just like we all do, daily. But often, you are punished with greater consequences, simply because of some people's incapacity to deal with such a powerful woman.
.
I believe God exists as the ocean, and you are a drop of God's existence. You personify beauty and love, just as our Creator; but often, those who have forgotten to love themselves, have tried to stop you from loving yourself, too.
.
I would say you deserve the world, but really, you are the world to people like me who have seen you travel through the shadows of this Universe just to show that where this is darkness, there must also be light 💫

As soon as you’re born, you’re given a name. Many of us are told what religion we’re going to follow. You’re labelled light or dark depending on your skin tone. Your sexuality is assumed based on your gender. Your identity is set, and your future is almost decided, for you. Now that these interactions have formed your ego, many of you will spend your whole life trying to fit the mould and defend these beliefs that you’ve inherited. All this without realizing that your life was decided for you, not by you.
.
As you grow up, you may begin to question who you really are – and the truth can be uncomfortable. You may start to realize that the life you’re living is not a true reflection of who you are deep down, beyond the conscious level. Jobs, relationships, routines, etc. all become draining. They feel wrong because they don’t represent the real you. Maybe you don’t know who that person is, but you know enough to know it isn’t the role you’re playing right now.
.
We’re always told that something is wrong with us for not being a certain way. For example, you might be labelled fat if you occupy more body mass than the average human being, and this may lead to the conclusion that you’re unattractive. This, of course, isn’t true unless you believe it is. But, we’ve been taught to label people and associate ideas together. Even in some cultures, if you’re light-skinned, you’re automatically considered more beautiful.
.
The world is full of egos constructing other egos. That means, a self-image will impose itself on another image, that a man or woman will identify with themselves. When two egos clash, we get conflict; this is the reason for all our wars. Rarely are people free to be themselves – and if they are, they are often ridiculed for not belonging to a group of egos. Once you wake up to witness that you are not your social mask, you have the opportunity to dig deep and find out who you really are… Scroll across and read the rest of this post 👉🏽

This is perhaps one of the most challenging lessons to understand because quite rightly, we are told to be good human beings that are accepting of others.
.
Nevertheless, there are very few of us who have evolved to a place where we can accept others without letting their harmful ways affect our inner-state. Sometimes, we hang on to people who take away our kindness because we feel that we have to; because it's' the right thing to do. Their actions continue to hurt us, and we then pass that pain on to others. They obstruct our growth and never really allow us to become highly-evolved beings. We might become those people who preach about loving others for who they are, but not practice it from a genuine place, and this will always reveal itself in our actions.
.
It is incredibly challenging when the people we deem as the most destructive to our wellbeing, are our family members. The truth is that just because they're your family, it doesn't mean that they have the best intentions for you. A lot of us are taught that there's nothing more important than family; those we are related to by blood. However, this shouldn't conceal the fact that sometimes it's our own family members, which are the most harmful to our mental health.
.
Some family members mean well but often have difficulties showing it. And, others are like poison to your soul. They criticize everything you do, expect too much, lack respect for you, and show very little support. Furthermore, they ridicule, neglect, hit, manipulate and belittle you. Their actions don't suggest love; only the lack of it.
.
Sometimes we live with these family members and love them dearly. The thought of losing them is not what we want. All we want is for them to change, so our relationship with them can change too; and improve as a result. In this instance, it is best to try these things...Scroll across and read the rest of this post 👉🏽

Recently, I bumped into a follower, and they told me a shocking story. Last summer, the follower (a girl) went on holiday with her friends. During their time away, she met a boy who was staying at the same hotel as them. She told me that he had a certain charm about him, and although they were physically attracted to each other, they felt more connected on a spiritual level.
.
During the trip, they spent a lot of their evenings together, almost like they were a couple. The boy really opened up to her, and she did likewise. It seemed like something special was brewing.
.
For most of the trip, they spoke via WhatsApp when they weren’t together, but when they returned home, she requested to follow his private Instagram profile to get more acquainted. However, he left her request as pending.
.
She subtly told him via WhatsApp that she was waiting for him to add her on Instagram, but he responded by telling her that he wasn’t a big user of the platform.
.
Only a few days had passed since they returned home, but their conversations became dire as his communication fizzled out. He became distant, to the point where he just stopped replying to her. She kept messaging him to ask him if everything was okay or to ask if she had done anything wrong, but she still got no reply.
.
The girl was hurt, especially as she thought they had connected on a deeper level and saw potential for a future together. Her intuition told her there was more to this, even though she couldn’t quite put her finger on it.
.
While she felt a little psychotic for doing this, she told her friend who she described as attractive to add him to Instagram to see if he would accept her request. Her friend wasn’t on the trip and had no pictures of them together on her feed so that he wouldn’t think anything of it.

Within 5 minutes, he accepted her friend’s request and sent her a DM saying, “Want to get rated?” Followed by a series of emojis.

Her intuition told her there was more to this, even though she couldn’t quite put her finger on it.
.

A year later and we’re finally on our honeymoon in Bali. A lot of people have asked why we left it so late, and of course we have our reasons.
.
In fact, we’re constantly asked personal questions in a patronizing manner, like: “Why did you take so long to get married? Why did you get married in Mexico? Why didn’t you live together right away? Why did you change the ceremony?” Amongst many other questions, which are usually followed up by assumptions.
.
The truth is, we’ve learned to live life in our own way and at our own pace. The most important thing at any time is that we’re genuinely happy. To some, we’re living unconventionally, but we know we’re living exactly how we want to be. For example, on this honeymoon, we’ve been able to enjoy all our time without feeling any pressure of work commitments and having guilt reaping in. This is also the longest time we’ve been away together – and it feels great.
.
Other people will always tell us how life should look and when we should do things. But, if someone tells you what your life should look like, it is not your life, it is theirs. We create our life with each step we take. We don’t all follow the same timeline.
.
Societal expectations are damaging to our sense of self and keep us captive to other people’s opinions. If you always live life for approval and acceptance, you will never find freedom.
.
While guidance can be precious and opinions can be helpful, many people impose their beliefs on others because they stem from fear-based expectations or because they’re conditioned to live in a certain way.
.
There is no right or wrong way to live, as long as it comes from a pure and loving intention. After all, beliefs are either helpful or harmful. If you want to follow a certain path, do it, but ensure that it resonates with your soul. Don’t do things because you have to or because it’s apparently the right way to live. It’s never the only way to live. Just be true to yourself.
