Photo by @daisygilardini | Hunting among the icebergs.
Polar bears are at the top of the Arctic food chain, and are the only truly carnivorous bears. Seals make up 90 percent of their diet. They fear no other species — except humans. Polar bear lives are broken into two seasons. The first is winter, the feasting season, when bears hunt seals while roaming on the pack ice. And then there is summer, the fasting season, when the absence of ice pushes the bears onto land, with scarce food sources. Follow me @DaisyGilardini for more images and stories behind the scene #bear #polarbear #wildlifephotography #svalbard #norway #climatechange

Photo by @hellokrisdavidson | Reaching the top of the Kelso Dune Field in the Mojave Desert in California involves a Sisyphean effort of scrambling upward and sliding backward against the traction resistant incline, but it’s all worth it. Upon reaching the top just as the sun is setting is akin to stepping into a dreamscape. In all my years of travel journalism, it remains a favorite memory. As the largest field of aeolian sand deposits in the Mojave Desert, the area spans 45 miles, comprised of migrating dunes, vegetation stabilized dunes, sand sheets and sand ramps— and a good dose of magic. #Mojave #NPS #kelso

Photo by @max.lowe I Silent and with barely but a ripple the white scape of the bay on the Antarctic peninsula was broken by a tiny black dorsal fin of a Minke Whale, reminding me once again what might lay below the empty surface. Follow @max.lowe to see more from my time in Antarctica.

Photo by @michaelgeorge | Torres del Paine is the rare park where humans are the outsiders in a vast, legitimate wilderness. Though it occupies 930 square miles, the park receives only 2,000 visitors per day in peak season. Here we travel over “Lago Pehoé,” translated as “Hidden Lake.” The color is caused by glacial “flour” or rock dust suspended in the water. In the distance you can see Macizo Paine, a group of mountains that look like broken teeth. #torresdelpaine #patagonia #chile

Photo by George Steinmetz @geosteinmetz | There are only 47 people living in the village of Padrão, and most of the work on the terraces appeared to still be done by hand and beast of burden. They call this valley the Tibet of Portugal. It was designated a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO a few years ago, which helps to attract ecotourism to sustain the local economy. It was tough find a place to park my car on its one cobbled street, but the potato pancakes were wonderful! To see more of our world from above, follow @geosteinmetz.

Photo by @chiaragoia | The view on Saint Peter's Church with candles lit all around it, during the celebrations of Madonna Bianca. Madonna Bianca commemorates the apparition of the Virgin Mary which happened in Porto Venere, Italy, in 1399. Every year, candles are set in the old town, around Saint Peter's Church, and lit in the evening. #portovenere #madonnabianca #italy
