Photo by @coryrichards | Myanmar, also known as Burma, is the largest of the mainland Southeast Asian states. During an expedition for National Geographic, in an attempt to climb the highest mountain in the area, my team and I passed through Myanmar, through a jungle, to reach the base of our climb. Pictured here, a buddhist monk swiftly crosses temple grounds in Myanmar. Captured #onassignment for #natgeo.

Photo by @kevinfaingnaert | Mompox is a town frozen in time. Located on the remote riverbanks of northern Colombia’s Río Magdalena, Mompox remains one of the country’s best preserved colonial towns. From yellow picture-perfect churches to stone statues commemorating the great revolutionary Simon Bolivar, an afternoon is easily filled spotting the town's fascinating colonial treasures. #colombia
Photo by @DaisyGilardini | Arctic hares live in the tundra biome above the tree line and are mainly herbivorous. As with many other cold climate animals, their body is well adapted to cope with extreme temperatures.
Arctic hares, like this one in Churchill, Canada, have a relatively low surface-area-to-volume ratio. Compared to other hares, they have shorter legs and ears and a stockier body. Even though 20 percent of their body mass is fat for insulation, what really keeps them warm is their thick fur. More southerly populations change to a blue-gray color in the summer in order to camouflage themselves with their surroundings, while northern populations stay white year-round.

Photo by @gerdludwig | When photographing, an unspoken rule is to avoid shooting expected images by pointing the camera directly into a sunset. Sometimes, however, the image begs to break the rules, such as this moment in Burkina Faso when, at the end of a long day, women washed clothing in the river.

Photo by @stephen_matera | Mount Shuksan is reflected in a lake at sunset in North Cascades National Park, Washington. At 9,131 feet, Mount Shuksan is one of the highest peaks in the North Cascades and has almost 8,000 feet of vertical on its south side. Photo by @andrea_frazzetta | Overlooking the Piazza del Duomo in Milan, the Museo del Novecento hosts a collection of more than 4,000 works that showcase 20th-century Italian art. Visitors can glimpse the Duomo from inside the museum’s panoramic terrace.
Venture beyond the ruins of Rome and the beaches of the Amalfi Coast, and you’ll discover an entirely new side of Italy. Situated between the foothills of the Alps and the River Po, the sprawling metropolis of Milan is recognized as Italy’s financial hub and one of the world’s fashion capitals. Photo by @jimmychin | Corcovado volcano is part of the system of millions of acres committed two years ago by Tompkins Conservation and President Bachelet to become national parks in Chile. The protected acreage is three times the size of Yellowstone National Park and Yosemite National Park combined. I’ve always looked up to Doug and Kristine Tompkins for their work, vision, and approach to life. Their commitment to preserving our wild places epitomizes the spirit of conservation. Photo by @mathiassvold | Lake Bled, near the Alps in Slovenia, is one of the most breathtaking, fairy-tale-like places in Europe. A church is located on a small island in the middle of the lake. The legend says that your wishes will come true if you ring the church bell three times.

Photo by @DaisyGilardini | Ice is nice. That’s a fact. I simply love playing with its colors, shapes, and patterns. I can spend hours at a time poring over a sculpted block of ice like this one in Antarctica, always finding new details and abstractions.
I find it’s a creative process that allows one to be focused on the task at hand and be in the moment. In our era of constant hyperactivity and multitasking, I find it refreshing to let my mind relax and focus on just one thing.
