St. Clair's Fall 😍 and the unseen winding path downstream πŸ“Έ a very unique look photographed by @thilina_kuruwita an account worth following β€οΈπŸ‡±πŸ‡°
.
A very uncommon view of St. Clairs fall, which is commonly known as the "Little Niagara of Sri Lanka". There is a lookout point on the Hatton - Talawakele highway, which is about 500m opposite the fall and you can climb down into the tea estate and walk through the bushes a small distance to get a clearer picture πŸ™πŸ»
.
The waterfalls consist of two falls called "Maha Ella" (The Greater Fall), where the cascades apparently total to 260 ft high and 160 ft wide and "Kuda Ella", (The Lesser Fall), which totals to 160 ft in height and is located immediately upstream of the main fall 😍

.
He was a British politician and served as the first governor of Sri Lanka from 1798 to 1805. The building is the governors residence. It was built to accommodate the governors visits to the lucrative pearl fishery in Kondachchi near Arippu. In the first three years of operation the government received Β£396,000 from pearl fisheries πŸ’°
.
If you visit the location there is a hoarding with a detailed history of the pearl industry in the Gulf of Mannar and the bungalow πŸ›
.
πŸ—Ί http://bit.ly/DoricBungalow
.
Regretably, extreme climatic wear and lack of preservation has lead to the deterioration of the entire building into nothing more than brick walls and a few pillars reminiscent of the doric style of buildings πŸ›
.
Some interesting notes : North proclaimed in 1801 that all rajakariya (royal service) was abolished and replaced it with a tax of one-fifth of their produce on low land and one-tenth on high land. Which was reinstated in 1805 by the next governor General Thomas Maitland πŸš₯
.
The English East India Company and the Crown had dual control over Sri Lanka from 1798 until it became the British crown colony of Ceylon in 1802. The Dutch possessions in Sri Lanka were formally ceded to the British in the 1802 treaty of Amiens, but the English Company still retained a monopoly on the colony’s trade and agents were put in charge of lucrative pearl fisheries, cotton plantations, salt, and tobacco monopolies 🚒

The most popular setting is either kayaking or swimming at the foot of the fall πŸš£β€β™€οΈ however the cascades that precede the major fall offer a few adventures of their own 😍
.
Leave a comment if you have trekked the upper sections of AberdeenπŸ• ❀️

⚠️ Avoid camping in the rocky path of the upper sections, since sudden increases in water flow can flood the stream and upper pools ⚠️

At 322.ft it's ranked as the 20th highest waterfall. The entire face of the waterfall is rock and when it's raining the area is damp and slippery. On the right hand side, a little further away, there is a man made observation deck for anyone not getting into the water πŸŒŠβ˜€οΈ
.
⚠️ The waterfall is most often a lazy fall unless the gates at Norton Bridge are open due to high levels of water at the reservoir or heavy rains ⚠️ The bridge is about 4.km upstream and the dam is part of the Wimalasurendra hydro power station. .
Make sure you do not get too close to the fall during the rainy season πŸ™ The main pool lies at the foot of the fall, but there is another shallow pool about 1 km down the stream. It's an uneasy 20 minute walk, and you'll pass two smaller pools on the way. Make sure to track your distance as you trek!

Further upstream from Upper Diyaluma ❀️ are stunning cascades falling into rocky natural pools β˜€οΈ Photo by Nicole from @chaordic.path during her travels in the island! πŸ‘£

When in Upper Diyaluma, take a stroll along the stream to two separate locations. About 200 meters up stream from the edge of Upper Diyaluma, are a set of tiered pools. In most photos they're seen with people leaning off the edge and enjoying the view ❀️

A further 150 meters upstream is a place tagged as the Diyaluma Lake, however it's merely a quiet pool with far fewer visitors πŸ‡±πŸ‡°

⚠️ Extreme caution is advised when diving into rocky pools ⚠️ In case of emergencies, there are two hospitals πŸ₯ in Koslanda District Hospital (4 to 5 Km from upper and lower falls) and the Wellawaya Base Hospital (12.km from lower Diyaluma & 22.Km from Upper Diyaluma) ⚠️

Upper or Ihala Ravana Ella can be seen after a steep climb up the mountain. From a height of approximately 80.ft it falls into a rock pool which is not recommended for climbing. However immediately after there is another larger and easily accessible pool πŸ‘£
.
⚠️ During the rainy season the waters are too rough, keep a safe distance from the waterfall ⚠️
.
Request : Do not carry Plastic or Glass objects on your hikes or just make sure you bring back everything you take. Take one bag just in case you see any trash thrown around, you can dispose of it when you get back to a city πŸ™β˜ΊοΈπŸ™πŸ»β€οΈ

Where are leopards found in Sri Lanka? πŸ€” the one known as β€˜Natta’ πŸ“Έ by @ismailsala a dedicated wildlife and conservation enthusiast πŸ™πŸ»
.
The Sri Lankan leopard has a tawny or rusty yellow coat with dark spots and close-set rosettes, which are smaller than in Indian leopards. In Sri Lanka's central hills, leopards have been recorded in forest patches, tea estates, grasslands, home gardens, pine and eucalyptus plantations 🌲
.
An endangered species is a species which has been categorized as very likely to become extinct. Endangered (EN), as categorized by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List, is the second most severe conservation status for wild populations in the IUCN's schema after Critically Endangered (CR) πŸ’”

It's the best time to visit waterfalls ❀️ Lower Diyaluma is the fifth highest waterfall in Sri Lanka at over 560.ft β˜€οΈπŸ‡±πŸ‡° photo from the stunning gallery of @maxpeditions check out his other photos in the island! πŸ‘£
.
From the bottom, Lower Diyaluma disappears into the sky and the height of all the cascades of Diyaluma is over 720.ft. The pool at the bottom is rarely photographed as people most often try to hike the upper segment in the mornings. The pool is shallow and rocky and easy to dip into. It is about 6 km away from Koslanda and many stop to view it from the road, but never get close ❀️ The main road is quite decent and the drive there is pretty easy πŸ‡±πŸ‡°

The view from inside a shallow cave ❀️ on the top of Duwili Ella πŸ“Έ love the photo by @ishara_m_gamage πŸ‘£
.
πŸ“Έ To enjoy the trek to Duwili Ella, set aside at least 3 days. Night 1, Stopping over to camp at Walpolamulla Village, while some trekkers prefer to camp at Dumbara Ella (off the main path) instead of the Village. Night 2, the camping site will be a shallow cave at the top of Duwili Ella. Enough to camp out in the night β€οΈπŸ‡±πŸ‡°

Warning ⚠️ It is also, one of the few waterfalls which has a cave behind it. The edge of which can be quite slippery. If you are traveling alone or with a group, please be extremely cautious of your footing. Travel with adequate equipment and use harnesses where necessary.
.
Request : There are many endemic species of fish in the waterways of the Dumbara range and in most waters surrounding the waterfalls, please make sure you do not spill any contaminants into the waters, including food waste β€οΈπŸ‘£πŸ‡±πŸ‡°

It's waterfall season ❀️ The beautiful Ramboda Falls in full flow πŸ“Έ A beautiful photo by Bhagya at @trvelkitty 😍 an account worth checking out πŸ‡±πŸ‡°
.
Ramboda falls has 3 segments, Upper, Center and Lower Ramboda falls of varying height. the lower fall is below the road bridge. The waters continue to join the Kotmale Oya on the eastern edge 😍

At 3,100 ft above sea level, it is situated in Pussellawa area, on the A5 highway at Ramboda Pass. 20.km NW of Nuwara Eliya bus stop, it's a trip worth making when in the hills ❀️

Parrot Rock or Girigala in Mirissa ❀️ A small island wish a sand-bridge at the eastern end of the beach πŸ“Έ Awesome photo by @iamthanuja 😍
.
This tiny piece of land is about 50 meters long and 30 meters wide but is smaller once you climb the steps and get to the top. There are a few benches but no shade. So, it's the best place to watch the sun setting over Mirissa beach 😍
.
Note ⚠️ The rocks around the island form shallow pools however with the weather right now, depending on the tide, wind and waves it may not be suitable for swimming πŸ™πŸ™πŸ»
