|mindful monday|: Ready for story time?... Last Thursday I sliced the finger pad of my middle finger on a can of dog food (I’m pup sitting for the week) 🐶 It was so bad that I got 3 stitches. My first thought was: “Why me? How will this affect my yoga practice during my training?” 😫 It’s funny how the mind works, isn’t it?

Never have I ever been so aware of this part of my hand. I can’t press down evenly as so many Asanas call for. It’s been SO humbling to modify with the heel of my hand on blocks, do forearm stands instead of handstands, and not even be able to interlace my hands because of my finger brace.
•
The lesson here is MINDFULNESS. What’s my edge? What’s the difference between sensation & pain? Yoga is a practice of sensory play. It’s been a gift to learn about my limits & a reminder to honor them 🙏🏼 •

Imagina poder entender cómo funcionas.
Imagina poder modificar todo eso que te hace(s) daño y transformarlo en buenos hábitos y felicidad.

No es teletienda.
Es yoga.

No yoga de posturas bonitas. 
Yoga de sentarse a escucharse.
A observarse.
A aburrirse o frustarse por no poder acallar la mente y  sufrir por no poder avanzar.
Pero de pronto ver enormes avances.

Pasamos la vida estudiando cómo funcionan las cosas. Sin entender cómo lo hacemos nosotrxs.
Estudiando formulas y soluciones a problemas.
¿Y los nuestros?
¿Cuál es la fórmula de nuestra felicidad?
¿ Cuál es la fórmula de no odiar y quejarse y por todo?
¿ Cuál es la fórmula de estar calmadxs en toda situación y apreciar la vida?

Pararse a observar.
El yoga calma,obviamente.
Y puedes quedarte simplemente en esa experiencia, y esta genial. Necesitamos calma en esta sociedad loca de estrés.

Pero si decides vivirlo te va a doler. Porque vas a tener que cambiar. Y luchar contra tu propia mente constantemente.

Pero te va a hacer tan feliz sentirte dueña de tus pensamientos y acciones.
Tan feliz de poder calmarte cuando las cosas no van como esperabas.
Tan feliz de vivir en el presente.
Tan feliz de no tener miedo.
Tan feliz de conocer tus emociones y poder pararlas cuando te comen.
Tan feliz de olvidar todo lo que no importa.
Tan feliz de necesitar menos para serlo.
Tan feliz...

Listened to the birds or city buzz or laughter or a/c unit. Smelled the gardenia, the ocean or the bakery. Saw the world around you without any filters or assumptions. Raw and interwoven. Yourself as a strand in the fabric. What if you paused to see, smell, hear and feel life? I hope you’ll try it 💓 #tryitout

Mine is Hot Mess a la Express. Art work. Coupons. My dog's rabies vaccine certificate (because I ALWAYS lose it if I don't). Photos. Approximately 7,000 photos (and worse during the holidays).

I read once that a messy fridge was an indication of a disorderly, chaotic person.
.
I say that's a load of moldy bologna.
.
A messy fridge is just a messy fridge. No in-between the lines about it.
.
Worked on some forearm stands with the walls, because I remember once asking if Upsidedown Monday could be a thing - and got a resounding yes.
.
It was good getting the blood rushing to the top part of my body after doing a LOT of sitting for work today.
.
Getting my face off the mat, and my toes more off of the wall. I remember when I had to use the wheel at my chest because I couldn't get my arms up or face off the ground without it.

The older I've become, the stiffer I've become😄. I used to do yoga as a teen, but in all honesty I just find it too slow. I know the benefits are fantastic, andI just need to be patient. I found this nifty 1 minute, 1 yoga pose a day chart and figured it would be a good starting point.

After a beautiful weekend teaching at Nozstock I am excited to bring back the good vibes to Bristol and announce my weekly offering at Space 238.

Each Wednesday I will be leading an Intuitive Free Flow. to centre the mind and tap into the Heart Chakra qualities of balance, calmness, and serenity. This class combines strong yet nourishing movements to create space for new energy to flow. As we unite breath and body in a series of static and fluid movements, the limitations of the mind fall away.

The aim of this class isn’t to achieve the perfect pose, but to feel freely into all corners of the body and mat creating a practice that serves on a physical, emotional, and physiological level.

Finding limitations 🌒 
I will never stop encouraging myself and my children to be their best, achieve to their fullest and reach for their highest. But a skill which I am learning myself, and trying to teach my smalls, is listening to our own personal limits. Whether this is needing to rest up during certain points in the monthly cycle, needing to recharge when mental health starts to suffer from the strain of stress, or simply needing to fidget and move instead of falling straight to sleep, we all have things we are brilliant at, and things that we need to do to keep us strong & happy. The most tension arises in our house when we (especially the grown ups) try to tighten our grip and make things a certain way. Instead, as the great Elsa once said, we need to learn to "let it go" ❄️ For us this often means that we can't get out of the house as quickly as we'd like, as the transition can bring up a lot of emotions for Philly. The stress of wanting to get out in a hurry can make us 'flip our lids'. When we're in this stressed out place our brains literally can't access all the calm, respectful information and tools we have and everyone is left feeling horrid. The best step is to take a moment is to let go of our adult expectations and respect her limitation to transition quickly, and our limitation to parent calmly when completely stressed. Everyone needs a moment! For us, this normally equates to achieving less financially and prioritising self care and personal recovery. It's too easy to disappear into a negative spiral, and part of us working as a team is definitely to gently hold space for one another's self care.

The best step is to take a moment is to let go of our adult expectations and respect her limitation to transition quickly, and our limitation to parent calmly when completely stressed. Everyone needs a moment! For us, this normally equates to achieving less financially and prioritising self care and personal recovery. It's too easy to disappear into a negative spiral, and part of us working as a team is definitely to gently hold space for one another's self care.

"WANNA GET YOUR FREESTANDING HANDSTAND? Master how to fall out of it safely. Assuming you already have the foundation/strength but so afraid of taking this off the wall because... well, we all have that fear! Fret not. You can get rid of it just like how I got rid of that fear super fast. I focused on mastering my exit strategy first rather than the long holds, alignment, etc. Personally, I find that fear is what really impedes many of us from taking our handstand practice up the notch. Here are my 3 favorite exits and how I try to gracefully execute them 😆 Hope this video helps you! Also, don't forget to have a lot of fun because handstand practice should always be fun.

Committing to yourself 💕 life is pretty busy, it is easy to get caught up in the day to day stuff without taking the time to ask yourself what you want. Additionally you might feel anxious about truly committing to yourself because what if it goes wrong or having doubts that you can do it.⠀
⠀
I've spent a lot of time honing in on what is important to me over the first half of the year, connecting to what is important to me, asking myself if I'm willing to put in the effort and finding ways to keep me on track. Because lets be honest most of the things that are important to us or we want to do require a lot of effort, whether it is pursuing a hobby, changing a habit, pursuing a career, starting these things are tough, we don't know how it will all work, we have doubt about if we can do it and only by committing ourselves will we know.⠀
⠀
For me this is where my yoga practice comes in, it grounds me, it gives me a space to come back to what is important to me, and it reminds me that at one point, yoga was hard and I doubted if I could continue (and somedays it still is), but I kept at it anyway, kept showing up because I knew I want better mental wellbeing and now I can't shut up about the benefits.⠀
⠀
With all the pressure life brings, makes sure you are committing to you too, making what is important to you a priority 💞

I officially enrolled in an advanced 300/500 hour training 🎉🎉. I found a flexible program in Asheville that covers all types of styles, allows you to create a curriculum based on what interests you AND can be completed over 5 years - which is both financially as well as logistically helpful (we can keep on RVing!). .

I found this school about a month ago and have been reading their website extensively, emailing obsessively and thinking about this opportunity pretty much daily. I was first drawn to the flexibility but once I read more about their desire to teach multiple lineages and various styles to allow the student to find a path that resonates most with them - I was hooked. I am pumped to get new trainings in areas I love to teach, might want to teach, and also explore new concepts!

This also means we'll spend a few months in Asheville every year or every other year... which we're not complaining about either! There's so much to explore in that area and I am really excited to embark on this adventure... We're officially heading back to Asheville in September all the way through the end of November!!!!!
