Holidays are to rewind and find that core within yourself. A time to connect with your heart and those you love. Though for many this is a very confronting time off.. and often people are happy to go back to work to have balance and peace. I remember this so well from office life. Chaturangas: the secret to mastering yoga. 😎
Okay, not completely. For a start that negates the spiritual and mental value of yoga. And it probably won’t help you if you’re working on increasing hamstring mobility or balancing on one leg. BUT it is the foundation of pretty much every arm balance. 💁🏼‍♀️ In many poses including crow pose at least one arm will will need to be in a Chaturanga shape. And even when not, you’ll be building from that strength you’ve grown in your arms, and core. 😁
The key thing with Chaturangas is scalability. Dropping your knees or putting yoga bricks just under your shoulders will help you to start with. Once you can lower down with control, and without the hips landing faster than your upper body, you can then play with some variations, such as the photo above. Ready? Let’s flow. #enliveningelle

FIRST attempt at the #sidecrowpose / Parsva Bakasana 😬. I always see this on my feed and just assume it’s too advanced for me, then tonight (I hurt my foot AGAIN🤦🏼‍♀️) so I decided to try some yoga poses that wouldn’t hurt my foot and was AMAZED at how I held this and how much movement I could do. 🥳

FIRST attempt at the #sidecrowpose / Parsva Bakasana 😬. I always see this on my feed and just assume it’s too advanced for me, then tonight (I hurt my foot AGAIN🤦🏼‍♀️) so I decided to try some yoga poses that wouldn’t hurt my foot and was AMAZED at how I held this and how much movement I could do. 🥳

I posted this yesterday and it was removed from my page? I’m not sure why, but I was thanking my students for coming to class and brightening up my day every Monday. 
And I mentioned how comparison of ourselves to another will only ever being us unhappiness and if we just accepted ourselves as we are fully and  loved each day unashamedly as though it were our last how much happier we would be.  Have a lovely week ❤️

We attempted Shoulder Stand, AKA
Sarvangasana. The asana is known as the Queen of all yoga poses and has many benefits:- ⭐️ Stimulates the Vishuddhi (throat) Chakra. ⭐️Aids detoxification of the body and calms the mind. ⭐️Regulates function of the thyroid gland and all related organs. ⭐️The inverted posture of the body stimulates blood supply, thus revitalising all cells of the body. ⭐️Encourages venous return and is especially good for swollen legs.

Did someone ask for some adductor *strengthening*? And did someone else ask for some adductor *stretching*? 🤔

Wellll did you know you could combine these two things into one movement [because strengthening & stretching are *not* actually opposites as is commonly believed 😉], and the end result is a potent move that will both stretch & strengthen the inner thigh muscles at the same time?
.
In this move (video sped up 1.5x btw!), I’ve set up with my hands on blocks and my feet on a blanket.
.
Pushing into the blocks with my arms, I let my feet slide slowly away from each other (use just a short range at first & only increase to a point you can still control! 😀) and then I slide them back in again.
.
*To regress*: The more of my weight that I bear in my arms, the less load will be placed on my legs, and therefore my adductors will have to work *less*.
.
These slides can also be practiced with the knees on the floor (in kneeling or quadruped), which will shorten the lever and reduce the challenge 👍🏽
.
*To progress*: If I want my adductors to work *more*, I can simply shift more of my weight back into my legs and out of my arms.
.
We don’t have very many ways to *strengthen* our inner thighs in a traditional yoga practice, so this can be an excellent complement to our classic yoga poses to help round out our lower body strength profiles!
.

Ended the final day of me being 21 doing all my favourite things.
I took a yoga class this morning and then spent the afternoon in the sunshine, walking along the river, picnicking in the park, all with family by my side. 🥰 
I know it’s always being said nowadays, but we should definitely fill our lives with more moments that make us forget to look at our phones.
The last few days have been like that. 
Full of chaos and busyness, but also full of laughter and fun. 
Full of simple moments; simple memories. Simple happiness.✨ .
Feeling so grateful to have ended this 21st year of life surrounded by so much love.❤️
Happy Sunday everyone. 🤗

Our first full practice together! 33 minutes, which you can see super quick time in video 2️⃣. Video1️⃣ is working on @mrsomewhatrad’s #chaturanga, with Zeppelin helping out. So much of teaching and learning is just trying to find the one or two cues that make sense in your body at that moment. It took me a while here to work our what Mr RAD needed was me to talk about his chest and not his pelvis. Videos 3️⃣+4️⃣ are #janusirsasana: I frickin LOVE this posture for those of us in the #tighthamstring family. 3yrs ago I was exactly where Mr RAD is: bolt upright and still finding it hard!! The great thing about this posture is that one leg at a time is soooooo much more manageable than both. And what hamstrings need more than anything is TIME. Lots and lots of time. More than we did here truth be told, but one step at a time. Yes, I’m teaching him my version of form/alignment but as he gets to know more about his body and his goals he may want to do things different. My priority for Mr RAD at the moment is making it enjoyable enough that HE WANTS TO KEEP PRACTICING, which means no injuries and keeping it fun. A LIFELONG PRACTICE IS THE GOAL. Fitness, flexibility, form, postures, well those are all amazing bonuses on top. .

I’m sat here on the train home from London after a day celebrating my 22nd birthday.
I can’t help but laugh, thinking back to when I was 14 and I thought that by 22 I would be moved out and engaged with a baby along the way... oh how wrong was I. 
22 seemed so old... like a real adult, and I guess you are a real adult at 22, but now sitting here, aged 22, I’ve realised just how young you really are.
.
I’ve learnt that there’s no such thing as a plan in life. There’s no time zone for things to happen. No deadlines. No set path to walk down.
I’ve also learnt that there’s no such thing as being ‘behind’ in life, which was something I felt I was for a long time since missing out on so much as a teen. 
I’ve learnt that we really can’t compare our lives to others. We all go through different things; at different times, at different paces. .
I think most of us feel that we don’t always have shit together; that we’re behind, were not where we need to be, or our imaginary time zone isn’t on plan...
But to me; It’s all bullshit.
We all move through life in waves and phases. We never really know what’s around the corner; who we’re going to meet, what we’re going to learn, or how we’re going to change and grow.
And that’s a beautiful thing.

I feel we really start living when we stop obsessing about the future and just start to live life for what it is.❤️

✨ Starte aus dem herabschauenden Hund oder Vierfußstand und setze deinen linken Fuß zwischen den Händen auf den Boden. Step-by-step:
✨ Starte aus dem herabschauenden Hund oder Vierfußstand und setze deinen linken Fuß zwischen den Händen auf den Boden.
