Accessory Work.

It has become somewhat of a hype to do lots of accessory work in recent times especially with the concept of functional bodybuilding becoming more popular. However, for us and our athletes, accessory work serves a very specific purpose. It’s encourages different types of movement through different planes to minimise risk of injury and muscular imbalances.

The ability to learn and adapt quickly is also crucial especially within CrossFit as the sport is constantly evolving with more types of movement emerging and the increase in technical demands. Therefore, through the use of accessory work, the athletes don’t just improve their ability to perform the variety of movements correctly, but also improve their ability to learn and adapt quickly too.

Nella ricerca di questa velocità però non bisogna avere fretta. Sacrificare l'integrità del movimento per acquistare qualche frazione di m/s non rappresenta mai infatti una soluzione vincente.

Immaginiamo la traiettoria come una serie di punti su un foglio che devono essere uniti da un'unica pennellata. Perché ne esca fuori un disegno corretto devono essere toccati tutti i punti, in ordine. Se si salta un passaggio e si uniscono due punti non consecutivi, la traiettoria che ne risulterà sarà aberrante. La fretta è proprio questo, velocità mista ad imprecisione.

Come allora passare dalla fretta, che colpisce molti di noi, alla velocità?

The more you push your levels of mobility, the more stable you will become as a byproduct. The reverse is not true. As you expand your movement repertoire, your body and nervous system get better at balancing and levelling themselves around centre = stability without needing to stabilise. If you always keep your joints ‘safe’ in certain positions (or use knee supports, orthotics etc) they will never learn how to not to be ‘safe’, so anything accidentally done outside of the ‘safe’ zone is at risk of causing injury or spasm. Try and do stuff a bit differently each time - roll your ankle the opposite way, send your knee in a different direction or play around with the angle of your elbow to teach your body a new version of normal. (It’s hard to summarise this point in an Instagram caption so I recommend reading @garyward_aim book ‘What the Foot’)

It takes strength to be proud of yourself even when noone else is and to accept yourself when you know that you have something out of the ordinary about you. Went through my whole childhood into early adulthood even today and never have I ever been told "I'm Proud Of You!" This picture sums up the past few days pretty well. 💦
@karjalan_kovin 2019 is over, and it's time for a small reflection:
Had some ups and downs, but even though the outcome wasn't what I've trained for all year, this weekend in itself was such a great experience.
Snatching in front of a crowd with everyone cheering on was probably the most fun I've ever had doing CrossFit. 
The weekend as a whole wasn't an absolute disaster, since I had a plan for the workouts, and stuck to them. I just wasn't fit enough to do better. Believe it or not, this is encouraging, since it only means one thing: I need to keep working and getting fitter. I managed to get my head game right (which is a working progress, of course) but now It's time to eliminate my other glaring weaknesses. I will not let a workout slap me in the face as hard as the last two did ever again. We'll be back, stronger than ever.

A huge thanks to the @karjalan_kovin team for a great event, everyone in the stands for cheering us on, and my support team without whom I wouldn't be here in the first place. 
Also a huge shoutout to @strike_eu for the best training shoes, and coolest training clothes 😎

Missed a couple days which I was NOT happy about. Family stuff came up, but I still should have made it. Good news, I really started fixing my diet during these days “off.” Tracking my calories finally and doing my best to eat well. I think it’s working since I had a couple bites of cheesecake and I got sick to my stomach. I am also seeing the scale finally starting to move just a tad. Regardless, I still have over 40 pounds to lose for my goal. I can do this though! I gave myself a year to do this, and people have told me that I’m selling myself short. This is exciting to hear! Although it may sound stupid, my short term goal is to walk into the school the first day of class and hear, “Woah! What happened Mr. B!” I already know who it will be too. But, by the time school starts it will be too short of time, but a man can dream right? Well I’m long winded after missing a few days, so thank you for checking in on me everyone!

See in order to grow you need to EAT! 
Ok I’m gonna be straight up here, there is only a HANDFUL of girls that I see on my personal gram that actually do “BULKING” or if you want to be technical eating in a calorie surplus in order to develop muscle mass. 
So many girls preach that you can stay lean and put on muscle in a calorie deficit, now although for some people this may be true for a lot of us girls taking our hormones into account doing a “BULK” can actually be extremely beneficial. 
Not only are you increasing calories so that when you do decide to cut down you have room to move, you probably will end up losing more weight easier if you gradually decrease these calories. 
Enjoy this time, the time where the weights are heavy, the curves are strong and the gains are happening! 
I’ll be spending the next 6 weeks finishing my bulk, and living hard! Before slowly decreasing calories and going into a deficit 🥳
At the moment I am only doing 1 session of cardio a week (apart from my warm ups!) 5-6 heavy weights sessions per week! 
I have also been really sick the last month which hasn’t helped my case at all! But hopefully it’s all smooth sailing now! 
Feeling super refocused and happy!

Glutamine morning and night 
Creatine currently in loading phase again
Whey protein in breakfast and post work out.

Каждый день перед нами стоят огромное количество вызовов.

Дедлайны на работе, которые постоянно давят на нас. Если ты сегодня не успел сделать какие-то задачи, то завтра их количество умножиться в несколько раз.

Нужно следить за успеваемостью детей в школе. Всесторонне развивать их. А еще успеть поговорить по душам, чтобы быть с ними на короткой руке.

Семья. Хобби. Спорт. Друзья. Этот список у каждого свой.

Но среди этого мы потеряли свой самый большой вызов. Он звучит очень просто. Быть собой. Оставаться верным своему внутреннему я, которое под влиянием многих факторов постоянно теряется где-то.

При разговорах с людьми, мы пляшем под их дудку. Жизненные обстоятельства меняют нас до неузнаваемости. А где-то там внутри спрятались наши истинные чувства и мотивы.

Вы встречали людей, про которых говорят:' на самом деле он не такой, каким его все знают'. Он не хочет показывать себя настоящего. А настоящий он у себя дома, 5 минут в неделю. А то и реже. Когда он просто обычный человек, как и мы все. По-моему все как раз таки да наоборот.

Недавно я побывал в месте, которое имеет своё собственное я. Оно не гнётся под изменчивый мир. Под влияние людей или время. Оно по-настоящему аутентично. Попадая туда, ты окунаешься в его жизнь и чувствуешь её всем своим нутром. Оно не создаёт атмосферу, оно есть атмосфера.

Это место - Фишт приют. Оно расположено посреди скалистых гор. Туда можно добраться только пешком, либо на вертолёте. Там хочется задержаться на некоторое время. Подышать его воздухом, его людьми, пожить этим местом.

Люди приходят туда с маршрута, чтобы зарядиться его энергией и идти дальше в путь.

Фишт приют живёт внутри каждого из нас. Не теряйте его.

Here's a drill to help if you struggle to make bar body contact in the snatch or clean! This is a great drill to teach the athlete what it feels like to pull the bar BACK rather than just pulling the bar UP. This drill helps the athlete make a habit of firing the right muscles. As a result- the bar will be close enough for a solid contact point. Pull BACK! Also, this drill finishes with a snatch low pull (finish your extension & make contact). Drill summary: Gets the athlete in the habit of using their lats to pull the bar BACK into them rather than using the arms to pull UP on the bar.

Here is a sequence of exercises to use prior to squatting. You can use all of them, or place additional emphasis on the specific ones you need.

Start with some body weight squats  to self assess how your body feels. Then after each mobility piece, add another round of squats.

🔹Ankle dorsiflexion (half kneeling)
🔸Air Squat
🔹Hip rotation (transitions)
🔸Air Squat
🔹Adductor (Long rocking)
🔸Air Squat
🔹Thoracic mobility (world’s greatest)
🔸Tempo Goblet squat
🔹Start squat of choice
