WINGMAN’S TIP OF THE DAY: Should runners do weight training? Well maybe not like this chap is doing, but I highly recommend that runners introduce some lower body weight training into their schedule (unless they have some medical reason not to do so). I tend to switch out an easy run for a high repetition (12 - 20 reps) leg weights session every 2 weeks. It’s low impact and hits your legs in a completely different way to running, which will stimulate your muscles and blood vessels to adapt and strengthen and aid your running accordingly (especially hills). You will also look forward to your next running session even more thanks to the mini-break. Being high rep, it will still give your cardio system a decent workout. Aim to do a mix of squats, lunges, leg curls and calf raises (20 moderate sets is ample). Aim to make yourself sore for the next day or 2 but not sore for a week! Some people and meetings you will remember for the rest of your life 🙏🏼 This fantastic guy, a former American soldier, told us about his unbelievable journey when serving for his country.
To make a long story short, his body has been through A LOT and he is now very limited in movements and having a lot of pain. After a 20 minute NMES treatment by Heiko he could move his body into positions he has not been able to do for the last 15 years - without pain. You can not put a price to that! 🙌🏽 FULL BODY WARM UP 🙌🏽⁣

Warming up before any workout is key to firing up those muscle fibres & getting them pumped up for your workout 🔥 not to mention increase in blood flow, mobility, flexibility & also time for my @tropeaka pre-workout BOOST shake to set in 😏🤪⁣

On a good day, I like to give some specific muscles a good roll out with the foam roller before jumping into any active warmup like this one & my warmups normally last anywhere between 5 to 10 mins, so I like to make sure I make them as effective as possible because we all know that there are some days where we just want to get in & out of the gym amiiiiright 😅😅😅⁣

Give this lil circuit a try before your workout & get those muscles pumped or if you find some free time during your day, its also a great way to take a little break & recharge before going back to making that dough 💸 complete it as many times through as you feel necessary, I'd recommend at least twice 🙌🏽😍⁣

1️⃣ inchworm | 30 seconds⁣
2️⃣ butt kicks | 1 minute⁣
3️⃣ pigeon stretch with twist | 30 seconds each side⁣
4️⃣ abdominal slides | 30 seconds⁣

Do you jog laps as part of your warmup?

My warmup protocol for sprinters, hurdlers and jumpers doesn’t include jogging laps. Sub maximal accelerations (60-80% intensity) are used instead. Although the intensity is reduced, the mechanics and movements should be the same as a full speed acceleration. The only thing that will differ is body lean, which will be reduced.

Technical considerations:
- Low feet (low heel recovery - NO heel to butt)
- Close the gap (knees together at the moment the foot makes contact with the ground)
- Thighs forward (drive the knees/thighs forward and get off the ground - do NOT triple extend and waste time pushing through the ground)

Here's how to perform this hamstring stretch!

1️⃣Bend your knees like you're squatting.
2️⃣Place your hands on a raised surface.
3️⃣Keep the arms straight and drive the butt to the ceiling straightening the knees.
4️⃣Repeat.

Another go-to warm up of mine! Now more than ever it feels like I need a good warm up or my body is TOAST afterwards. Being pregnant I can no longer take a full post workout stack, so I need to make sure I’m exercising properly to keep my body recovering well! My favorite one is by @1stphorm .
