Who wouldn’t want to live in Cluckingham Palace with its glorious cascade of the beautiful weeping rose, Bloomfield Courage? Or if you prefer your tones more pastel in shade, you could move into The Gatehouse covered by the exuberant pillar rose Jeanne La Joie. 🌹 .

Allium sphaerocephalon in December decay.
These are yet another of my faves, and I can’t help myself buying more every year! My Mum introduced them to me and I’ve been in love with them ever since.
The bees absolutely love them too! ..
They remind me of those traffic light ice lollies, seemingly ever changing colour! Starting off with greens, then a two tone greenish purple and finally turning purple.. to black, now in December. ..
Their long lasting shape, movement and changing colour is magical and seeing the bees all over them in the summer makes them a firm favourite for me.
I’ll be buying a few more next spring... a girl can never have enough alliums! 😉

It’s early, to the west, the sky is grey and overcast whilst to the east it is a dark and ominous charcoal. Overnight we had rain, it started late in the evening and continued through the night. A gentle rhythmic beating on the roof, that in the wee small hours of the morning brought with it thunder and lightning. According to the rain gauge, 15mm fell. Everything seems so much brighter this morning. The roses stand just a little taller, everything seems greener and the birds are singing just that little bit louder. Out in the grounds of Cluckingham Palace, the girls are busy seeing what tasty morsels the rain has brought to the surface. Whilst in the Gatehouse, those two silly bantams continue to nest sit. I really hope they will be rewarded for their persistence and dedication. Yesterday I planted out my veggies that I had been babying in pots. I have two varieties of tomato, basil, pumpkin and cucumber seedlings that are all looking very happy this morning. Late yesterday afternoon I planted corn seeds in the bed where I had harvested the garlic and onion. It was a spur of the minute decision and had I known I would have saved the pumpkin for that bed. Today Miss Millie is headed to the vet to have her beauty treatment. She’ll come home a new dog, all freshly clipped and bathed, ready for our Christmas guests. She currently looks like a scruffy well used toothbrush on legs, I’m not entirely sure there actually is a dog under there, time will tell. Well I have to get on, she is due at the vet in 45 minutes and I need coffee first. Have a lovely Tuesday and wherever you are, if you need it, I wish you rain. ⛈

Lots of jobs were ticked off our to do list this weekend! Planting the daffodil and allium bulbs, now just the tulips to do this week. Lots of raking and taking leaves to the allotment to begin our leaf mould pile, and clearing two allotment beds that are full of bindweed.
This is the first time I’ve planted bulbs and I love the process of burying something in the ground that looks like it has no life in it, while having the knowledge of the gifts of will bring in the spring 🌼
How was your weekend spent? .

The Hydrangeas get a lot of attention but Rhododendrons are the most abundant plant in our garden—other than weeds😉💕(swipe for an overhead view of this area)! Many of these Rhodies were planted in the 1970s. Years of neglect and a few fallen trees had left them in bad shape. My last post was about patience and these plants have given me plenty of practice. Last year we needed to move six of these old plants to build the shed. They all survived and are thriving. Rhodies are hardy plants and one of my favorite go-to evergreens—and bees LOVE them. The yard is humming with their appreciation 🐝🐝🐝! #cottagegarden #garden #gardeninspiration #gardenshed #pottingshed #sheshed #garten #giardino #jardin #jardi #naturelove #plantlover #capecod #newengland #rhododendron #countryhome #mycountryhome #gartenliebe #betterhomesandgardens #englishcountrygarden #mygardentoday #blossoms #blumen #flowers #pink #todayinmygarden windowboxes #geraniums

finally #potting my grown from node #variegatedmonstera—watch through to see what i did 🌱 what’s your favorite day to #indoorgarden ?.
—————
i’ve been #waterpropagating this plant from a node cutting for about a year (often neglected). so here is what i did:
.
.
.
1. took out of water and pulled off the rotting parts (this happens when you water propagate for too long, but most of the roots were healthy)
2. cut the root system to encourage tall growth and a fresh cut is never a bad idea especially when there are this many roots!
3. used this cute trellis for it to climb (monsteras love something to climb to).
4. used my premixed aroid mix and added more @sexysucculents_ pumice.
5. potted up in my @stoneandsagepottery planter, it’s such a good one. lightly tapped the pot after filling with soil for even distribution.
.
.
.
man i needed to do this for forever, glad i finally got to it and am able to share it with you guys! happy #gardening 👋🏼.

This is Dessie the pheasant who lives in our garden. He comes for breakfast every morning and is getting tamer ( doesn’t hide behind the miscanthus anymore when he sees me ) He’s one of the lucky ones that survived the shooting season and hopefully will go on to live a normal pheasant life. Hoping he might find a lady pheasant friend soon as spring is fast approaching.

I am sitting on the verandah, coffee in hand and still feeling half asleep. I haven’t ventured into the garden yet as the rain is tumbling down. Fat, heavy drops beating down relentlessly on the tin roof. The sky grey and oppressive with the weight of those yet to fall. After days of unstoppable wind, racing through the garden and buffeting all in its path, the garden is still with the exception of the occasional dip of a branch or leaf to release its burden of drops. From their cover amongst the abundant foliage I hear the small birds twitter their joy at the precipitation and stillness. Yesterday after work I surveyed the garden. The wind had laid flat nearly all of my beautiful tall bearded iris and those that had survived her rampage and still stood tall, instead had their petals ripped off, so that no iris remained unscathed. Thankfully I had not seen fit to return my birdbath to its base as I fear it would not have survived another fall. Remarkably the weeping cherry I have just planted and is unstaked, still stands tall and proud in her pot, for which I am grateful. Despite the rain I will still wander the garden as more and more roses are blooming every day. Along the front fence at the entrance to the cottage, there is a cascade of tiny pink roses, so thick that you can barely see the leaves. Pinkie at her most magnificent and Souvenir de la Malmaison is also a riot of fragrant pale pink, quartered blooms, although this rain will surely turn her into a balled mass of brown. The pillar roses too are covered in flowers and most of the David Austin roses have commenced their fragrant show, though I am still waiting on Brother Cadfael, who shows just a glimmer of colour but has not yet joined the party. If it were not a work day, I would spend the day curled on the verandah sofa with a throw rug, endless cups of coffee and a good book, preferably one on gardening, however duty calls. Time to wander the garden before I have breakfast and get ready for work. Have a wonderful Friday. 🌧

Visitor to my garden today! 3 pic!
