Categorising your pain ☀️ Yesterday my therapist taught me how to categorise pain. I find it hard to not bundle all my pain into one large ball like it's all the same thing; like it's all my fault.

Now I can see hurt, disappointment and anger as different categories, what is rational and what is not, and how to communicate honestly while maintaining your boundaries. These make for smaller, more manageable issues that can be resolved with the right readjustment techniques.

Once you categorise the pain, match a task to the intensity level of the emotion and that will be your outlet. If it's intense, maybe do a hardcore workout. If it's mild, maybe meditate.

There are so many ways to overcome overwhelming emotions. Just find one that works for you 🖤

I have been in similar situations over my lifetime, what helped me survive was writing in my diary, focusing on my studies, doing sports, and spending time with supportive friends. These days you have a lot of online support and phone numbers you can call. So don’t be afraid to seek help, read information on the internet and talk to your loved ones.

Bullies can only take your power if you let them.

These are all lessons in life that will help you get stronger and more resilient as you grow and develop to become responsible adults ready to face the big world.

It's often hard to return from a trip.

The few days after our trip have been a bit hard. It's quite common actually. Coming back from a longer bit of a lot of activity and new stuff can take some time to adjust.
°
Being tired physicly and mentally after the trip requiers a few days to take it easy and rest. At the same time my head feels like that sudden switch from activity to a static home life is too jarring and keeps telling me i should be doing things and there is something wrong with me for just staying home and resting.
°
Anxiety about not doing stuff... Fear of not being able to do anything later either...
°
Exhaustion...
°
I still stay home and rest because i know i need it, but it's hard and filled with fear and anxiety.

A Real Apology:
.
•Takes responsibility by acknowledging the hurtful or inappropriate behavior.
• Acknowledges impact by stating an understanding of the hurt our behavior has caused to another person.
• Doesn’t minimize or downplay either the behavior or its impact.
• Doesn’t focus on intent. It doesn’t matter that we didn’t mean to hurt the other person. What matters is acknowledging the hurt.
• Doesn’t include the word “but.” When we say “I’m sorry, but...” it basically cancels out the apology. It’s a vehicle for minimization or justification. Leave this part out.

My cat is sick. We aren’t sure how long he will be here. I fell in love with him at first sight and he has been my therapy cat, sweet furry friend, and loving companion ever since.

Over the last few days, I’ve noticed myself distancing from him. Not letting him make me smile as much. Not feeling the fullness of my love for him. It makes me think of two things: anticipatory grief and foreboding joy.

Anticipatory grief (grief before loss) can include more anger and atypical grief responses (this is hard to actually measure because grief responses are anything but ‘typical’). We often begin grieving way before loss (loss of all kinds). Anticipating loss brings up complex emotions and even physical experiences – for me, it’s always an achy chest and a heaviness in my shoulders and soul.

I also think of how anticipatory grief often innately creates foreboding joy, or a pushing away of joy. @brenebrown has spoken on this before and I find it to be such an important topic – looking at the moments we push away or minimize or deny joy because we know it isn’t permanent and we’re afraid of what will happen when it goes away. Not feeling it at all often feels safer than allowing it, knowing it will pass.

I wonder, then, if an antidote to anticipatory grief is fully committing to our joy, even though we know it will leave. I wonder if an antidote to loss is allowing ourselves to fully immerse ourselves in what we have when we have it, not because it will make the loss easier but because it will make us more alive. I wonder if a way to ease the certainty of grief is to know we loved with everything we had.

In realizing this, I’m working on letting the joy in. On letting his nuzzles warm my heart. On connecting with him and noticing his little quirks that make me so grateful to have him in my life, no matter how much longer it’s for. On letting joy be as full as it is, not only with my cat but with my life.

Loss is a reminder of joy —in fact, I think the very reason loss hurts so much is because the joy felt so full. Let’s let our joy be a signifier of how much we loved, and let’s let how much loss hurts be a reminder of how deeply we felt it all. ✨

Yet how often do we hear mental health conditions thrown around to reference unrelated topics such as the weather, a particular behavior or the way someone looks (No, looking “anorexic” is not a compliment so society needs to stop trying to make it one).

When we use a mental health diagnosis in a colloquial way, we immediately undermine the severity and impact these conditions have on people’s lives each and every day.

With 171,476 words in the English language to choose from, there are literally thousands of words one can reference that are NOT mental health conditions.
