TOP TIPS FOR RECOGNIZING & FIXING MUSCULAR IMBALANCES.

What is a muscle imbalance?
.
It is a noticeable size or strength discrepancy between muscle groups—such as having a right bicep larger than your left, or a larger upper body vs. smaller lower body
.
Most common causes of muscle imbalances?
.
Improper workout programming
Improper/poor exercise technique
Limited mobility and flexibility
.
I’ve heard a lot of crap over the years from various fitspos saying they “didn’t want to get to bulky up top, so only going to work out lower body”
.
This is a recipe for disaster. .
Your body wants to be in a homeostatic place...any time you aren’t, it’s going to be fighting you to get to that point...this leaves tons of room not only for imbalances, but for injury too. But if you listen to the right people, you’ll find that fixing this problem isn’t that complicated. .
How do you know in you have an imbalance?
.
Sometimes you can visually see it, in fact a lot of times it is common to have one side larger/smaller than the other. .
Other times it’s apparent in the gym—for instance maybe you are doing a barbell press & notice one side is rising faster than the other as you press up.
.
How can you fix it?
.
I would say a large percentage has to do with simply following a very well designed program that doesn’t neglect or under-train any portion of your body. Well balanced program...well balanced physique.
.
A smaller percentage would be dependent on the individual...Each of us naturally have strong & weak points, & depending on what those weak points are it’s super important to build the neural connections/mind muscle connection with these muscles that may be experiencing the imbalance.
.
Really focus on the movements you are performing, don’t be sloppy & don’t just go through the motions of a workout. Slow down your reps, focus on tempos & contractions. .
Don’t ignore mobility as this can make it very hard to execute a movement properly.
.
Follow a workout plan that incorporates heavy compound movements—these give plenty of attention to all major muscle groups
.
Lastly, incorporate unilateral exercises in your routine.

I love this quote. Because even when you might feel you are in a struggle or tug of war with something going on in your life. There is ALWAYS something to be grateful for. Sometimes I think we get a little selfish when we are in pain or life is getting the best of us. We tend to focus on those awful painful feelings that tend to just make us feel worse. Instead we should be counting our blessings and being thankful for everything we have!! ·
I am completely grateful and thankful for my kids! They love me unconditionally every single day! All the hugs and love I get! They melt my heart and bring me so much joy into my life. I am grateful for my health! I'm so freaking grateful for this amazing house I live in with the most peaceful backyard EVER!! Whenever I'm out there I just feel like the luckiest girl alive! Biggest tip for anyone starting a fitness program.. make a specific physical goal for yourself. Everyone of course wants to lean out, the extra weight to come off, or to feel better. But what I’ve found, is when I focus on a physical goal (being able to do a full push-up, planking for a certain amount of time, signing up for a race), the rest of the other weight/fat loss goals mentioned not only become secondary but they end up falling into place as well. As some of you have seen on my story, I’ve been training for my first Spartan Stadium Sprint Race that I’ll be doing at the end of November with my hubby. I know it’s going to test my strength in so many ways that may make me feel like I’ve never worked out before, but I do know I’m up for the challenge! So for me, my new goal lately has been pull-ups and progressing until I can do a body weight one myself without assistance. That and completing every Bikini Bod Squad workout with 30 burpees to prep me for the potentially failed obstacles during the race (there are 20 obstacles, so hopefully I can at least do half.. these burpees are brutal!) With all that being said and training with these focused physical goals in mind, I have been able to see my progress in those specific areas, but also muscles starting to show themselves a bit more as well without constantly stepping on a scale to ‘tell me’ how I’m doing 👌 That’s what it’s about! PS If you are still measuring progress from a scale, you will always end up frustrated (unless it can also measure body fat and water percentage) Let me help you find a physical goal to focus on instead! How did you move today?! I was still feeling some muscle soreness/tightness so I stretched, iced, and did low impact activities. •upper body strength training + 20 min of indoor biking + a 2 mile walk.
