Relevant read namely for someone like me who thought (up until today) rest was for the weak. 😅 Wrong. Burnout ou síndrome do esgostamento profissional é um transtorno emocional comumente ocasionado por extensos níveis de estresse no trabalho e abrange uma exaustão emocional, diminuição do sentimento de realização e distanciamento das relações pessoais.
A síndrome pode resultar em estado depressivo, fadiga e exaustão emocional.

Alguns do elementos que podem influenciar no surgimento são predisposição genética, ambiente de trabalho e as experiências socioculturais.

As frustrações emocionais no trabalho podem gerar alguns sintomas psicossomáticos, dentre eles o Ministério da Saúde aponta alguns sinais como : Insônia, úlceras, dores de cabeça, pressão alta. Além destes, sintomas comportamentais e psíquicos podem surgir como isolamento , sentimento de fracasso, insegurança , desesperança, absenteísmo, irritabilidade, entre outros.

È importante atentar que algumas profissões são mais sensíveis ao desenvolvimento da síndrome, dentre elas , profissões relacionadas a saúde e educação recorrente a exposição aos problemas e ás preocupações daqueles a quem atendem profissionalmente.

Se você visualiza alguns destes sintomas ou conhece alguém que está passando por essa síndrome, o tratamento usual é por meio da psicoterapia e uso de medicamentos como ansiolíticos e antidepressivos.  A atividade física regular e os exercícios de relaxamento também ajudam no controle dos sintomas.

Além do atendimento particular na psicoterapia, os Centros de Atenção Psicossocial, um dos serviços que constituem a RAPS, oferecem de forma gratuita o tratamento, desde o diagnóstico até o tratamento medicamentoso.

Alright, one final Tennessee post since juggling school and getting back into a new schedule has completely ruined my workout routine. When things get crazy for a little while, no matter what you’re adjusting to, It’s easy to get stressed and confused in all the commotion. One thing I continuously try to work on, now more than ever, is living in the present. When all you do is look for the future and what needs to happen you’re going to lose where you are. Your head can’t be in the past, present and future. All we have is now so therefore it’s important to focus on that. Not only will it slow your mind down but it helps make you feel more grounded. So today, stop stressing over the future or living in the past, just know where you are and what you’re doing now. 😇🧘🏼‍♀️ Happy Happy Thursday loves!

P.s. one of my most fav rituals for calming my mind and getting back to the present moment (instead of the past or the future where overwhelm tends to live) is a body scan. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When we feel stressed, it’s common to carry tension in the body. Doing a body scan helps me notice what I’m feeling and where, and relieve stress.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here’s how I do it:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1️⃣ Close your eyes and sit (or lay) in a comfortable position. 
2️⃣ Starting with your head, notice where any tension lives. Are the eyes sore? Is your head achy? Are your shoulders stiff? Is your jaw tight? Notice the sensations without judgement and breathe into and relax the tense spots. Visualize that you’re blowing the tension out through a straw. Take a deep exhale if you need to. 
3️⃣ Once you feel ready and more relaxed, move slowly down to each area of your body, group by group: chest, arms, stomach, sacral, legs, feet, etc. Notice sensations, breathe into tension, and release by blowing through the invisible straw or taking a deep exhale. 
4️⃣ Massage any areas that want extra care, and remind yourself that “I am safe” and “I can handle this.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
5️⃣ When complete, slowly wiggle your fingers and toes and open your eyes. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Tip: When you’re short for time, notice and breathe into the specific spot where you feel tension in the body, instead of moving group by group.

I shared in @themindfulcorner podcast (link in bio) recently that stress is extremely glamorized. Like, if you’re not stressed, if you’re not running on over drive, if you’re not tired + skipping meals + overwhelmed by your to do list (especially as a working mom) then you’re not “doing it right.”

I call bullshit.

I spoke about how my body knew long before I did that it was time to heal; from migraines, to shingles, sleepless nights + panic attacks. I blamed the “stress,” but knew it was rooted in a much deeper emotional pain that I wasn’t willing to stop and look at. 
______
Truth is, we hear so often that stress is just a part of life and that running on survival mode is simply a byproduct of that stress, that we start to believe it is true and thus, settle. We don’t even consider another way. Problem with this is our body keeps score + our lives suffer from the inside out. We aren’t meant to live in survival mode. This mode was created for use when a threat is present to survive, then its meant to shut off so we can recover. But we usually never shut off in todays society. Without recovery, we literally start to crumble and break down.

Yes, stress is something you cannot avoid. However it’s important to embrace healthy coping skills to manage it, or it will eventually begin managing you. Part of that is learning to remind your body (daily) that it is safe + that stress is in fact not a life threatening predator (unless you let it be). .
