LAST NIGHT WAS JUST WHAT WE NEEDED!

We hope everyone who came to our Self Care & Wellness Night Out with @bloomingdales, @wellchemistboutique & @bala had an amazing time. 💆🏼💆🏽

The period between Thanksgiving & NYE can be a super hectic one: buying gifts, going to holiday parties, traveling & a big end of year work load … it can become really easy to forget about ourselves. So we figured a wellness + self care event would be the perfect addition to the week - to pause, connect and get pampered! And even if you didn’t make it to our event (and don’t worry, there will be more!), try to make it a habit to dedicate at least some time during the week to your wellbeing. Whether it’s connecting with an old friend, reading a book, taking a bath … whatever works! You deserve to slow down and commit to yourself.

Exercise is a celebration of what your body can do, not a punishment for what you ate” … this quote is relevant ALWAYS, but particularly around the holidays & new year when people’s intentions around working out may change for the worse.

Here are 5 WAYS TO HONOR YOUR BODY WHILE WORKING OUT, NOT PUNISH IT:

💫 LOOK FOR PROGRESS, NOT PERFECTION. — The “all or nothing” perfectionism mindset is NOT a recipe for success. So try to focus on the little improvements you’ve made - did you increase your dumbbell weights, make it to yoga this week, or take an extra rest day you knew your body needed? These are ALL forms of progress!
💫 QUIT PAIRING EXERCISE WITH WEIGHT LOSS. — Working out goes SO far beyond losing weight. When you’re able to make a mindset shift that focuses on stress relief, endorphins, improved mode & gaining strength it will make a world of difference (this may take time, but it can be achieved!)
💫 MAKE IT FUN. — We say this often but it is SO important to choose workouts you genuinely enjoy. Sometimes we’ve forced ourselves into a specific category of workout for so long that we can’t even tell if we love or hate it. So start with a clean slate and see what your body gravitates toward!
💫 AVOID MIRRORS IF THEY’RE CAUSING NEGATIVITY. — Mirrors are there to help support your form. But if you find yourself using them to critique your body, pick a different spot or class altogether! @Newyorkpilates, @Y7 & @BKpilates are good mirror-less options so you can shift your focus.
💫 PRACTICE GRATITUDE. — Movement is something to be grateful for EVERY DAMN DAY. And gratitude is something I consistently fall back on when I catch myself in a spiral of any kind. CHICAGO, I’M HERE! 🤩 and I’m reviewing the #1 studio request we got yesterday … @STUDIOTHREECHI.

Basically, I left Studio Three this am wondering if it would be ridiculous for me to fly back to Chicago regularly for this workout …. 😝 kidding, but only kind of.

I took their ‘Hi Def 45’ class, which is essentially a 45 minute total body sculpt done in a moderately heated room (btwn 80 - 85 degrees). Class starts off with yoga to open the body up, and follows with sets of intervals to the beat of the music. The movements in this class truly FELT good - we did a lot of planking, squats & lunges using weights, yoga blocks & resistance bands throughout. It’s a sweaty 💦 one!

Maybe we’re used to tiny NYC spaces but I felt like I was walking into an Equinox when I arrived. It’s massive, super well kept & has extensive shower & locker room situations. Great for a pre-work workout.

Btw, I booked this class for just 6 credits on ClassPass - and most of their classes are #10AndUnder, which IMO is a complete steal. I will definitely be back! Have you guys been here? Tag a friend you want to sweat it out at Studio Three with! xx #sssssweats

FINDING COMFORT IN BEING ALONE.

Does a lot of alone time make you uneasy? This was the case for me a long time - I think it actually started when I first moved to NYC (isn’t it weird how a city full of SO many people can feel lonely?) - but it’s something I’ve started to actively work on. It’s soo important to be comfortable (and ENJOY) alone time … It’s truly a skill to be your own best friend. Whether that means staying in on a Friday night by yourself, a solo trip or eating out at a restaurant sans friends/your partner.

A lot of people DMed us asking if I was alone on this trip - and the answer is yes, I spent the second half of it completely solo! I did early AM yoga, I ate nourishing food, I swam, I relaxed and I filled my days with just me, myself and I … and it was SO incredibly rejuvenating!

I want to give the biggest thank you and hug to my sweet friend @theroadtohana_ for having me at her family’s little slice of paradise - @playacativolodge … you guys, I’ve never experienced anything like it. BACK AT IT 🤩

after a 3-day work trip that also resulted in 3 semi-unplanned rest days in a row (😅 — i don’t think i’ve done that in at least 6 months) and also eating closer to my maintenance-level, calorie wise, rather than in a deficit has me feeling a little anxious, but also SO GRATEFUL, to be back in my routine. .
if you’d told me back when i started in january that one day i’d be looking at ONLY going to the gym 4 times a week and thinking that THAT was a slow week, i’d think you were crazy 😂

it’s important, i’ve found, when i’m getting caught up in my thoughts and rules about *only 2 rest days a week* to remind myself first and foremost that my body THRIVES off a little rest and a break from my routine sometimes, and i’m coming back to my workout and routine this morning with so much excitement and motivation!! let’s do this, friday!!! 🥳

Talking: THE LAW OF F*CK YES OR NO.

I recently read an article (that my angel of a therapist sent me) on this topic & it was so eye opening that I wanted to discuss it with you all … Essentially, the law states that when you want to get involved in something new (or WITH someone new), in any capacity, you must respond with a with a “F*ck Yes” in order to proceed.

This law is applicable to so many aspects of life - relationships, friendships, dating - and not sure about you guys, but I personally feel really connected to the idea of it right now. It all boils down to listening to your gut and creating strong personal boundaries - and in turn feeling more confident & attracting more of the right things. Essentially, you become more magnetic all around!

Does whatever you’re currently up to light a F*CK YES fire inside of you? If so, game on! If no, it’s time to consider moving in a different direction. xx #sssssweats

We had the best time at Friendsgiving last night with a group of girlfriends … a favorite time of the year for both of us. Feeling so grateful for good friends & nights like these. 🥰

My journey with the pill has been a complicated one. Long story short - I had been on it for forever up until the beginning of this year when I decided to call it quits. About 6 months in, I ended up back on it again when my skin started having a total freaking out (a doctor had assured me my skin issue was hormonal and BC would take care of it ... unfortunately this was not the case 🤦🏽‍♀️). Eventually, I realized that the pill just wasn’t working for me (please note this is a personal choice, and not necessarily the case for everyone!) - being off the pill for half the year made it super clear to me that I was much happier without it. (Contrary to what my doctor & therapist at the time said - the pill CAN make people feel depressed ~ again, not everyone, but some people!). After going off for the final time, it took me about 3 months to get my period back. Here’s what I was up to that I believe may have contributed:

💕 Adding more healthy fats into my diet. No need to fear the fat! Coconut butter from @capbeautydaily has been a favorite.
💕 Shifting my primary workout focus to lower impact, less cortisol-inducing forms of movement (i.e. pilates) - this has been a gradual shift that you may have noticed D and I making over the last couple of years. You’ll still see us in high intensity workouts, but just less of them as a whole!
💕 Weekly acupuncture - I go to (and love dearly!) @aieshaabel - she’s great with re-balancing hormones, among a LOT of other things.
💕 NRT (nutrition response testing) with Dr. Beth Forgosh - this has helped restore my overall health (still a work in progress here, but am feeling SO MUCH better all around … I can’t even tell you!).
💕 Ridding a lot of toxic products from my daily routine (they are endocrine disrupters!) - I’m definitely not perfect in this regard, but every little change counts.
💕 Lowering overall stress levels - meditation, yoga, breathwork, therapy, designating time to take off work (easier said than done when you work for yourself!), working self care into my week (like lymphatic drainage), etc.

it’s NOVEMBER and how WILD is it to think that i started my fitness journey in JANUARY of this year and i’m still showing up 5 days a week and on my macros every single day 😂 .
like WHAT?!?!

i’m so grateful for all that this year has taught me and the many, many ways i’ve grown and accomplished my goals both in and out of the gym 🔥 and i’m pumped that i’ve got another TWO whole months of this year to take it even further before we hit 2020 ( #fighttofinish2019 amirite?!??)

tbh i’m not really feeling the ~holiday mood~ today, despite the fact that fall (& halloween specifically) is one of my favorite times of year. .
i had a great workout this AM but when i got home & started to get ready for work i just kind of fell into a funk 😕 .
now i’m sitting at work, watching the doggos in costume 🐶 (i work for a dog product company, lol) and will decorate some pumpkins this afternoon, so here’s hoping that helps to lift my mood! 🤷🏻‍♀️

until then, i’ll be looking forward to cozying up under some blankets after work and watching some halloween movies 🧡

Here are 5 WAYS TO HONOR YOUR BODY WHILE WORKING OUT, NOT PUNISH IT:

💫 LOOK FOR PROGRESS, NOT PERFECTION. — The “all or nothing” perfectionism mindset is NOT a recipe for success. So try to focus on the little improvements you’ve made - did you increase your dumbbell weights, make it to yoga this week, or take an extra rest day you knew your body needed? These are ALL forms of progress!
💫 QUIT PAIRING EXERCISE WITH WEIGHT LOSS. — Working out goes SO far beyond losing weight. When you’re able to make a mindset shift that focuses on stress relief, endorphins, improved mode & gaining strength it will make a world of difference (this may take time, but it can be achieved!)
💫 MAKE IT FUN. — We say this often but it is SO important to choose workouts you genuinely enjoy. Sometimes we’ve forced ourselves into a specific category of workout for so long that we can’t even tell if we love or hate it. So start with a clean slate and see what your body gravitates toward!

FINDING COMFORT IN BEING ALONE.

Does a lot of alone time make you uneasy? This was the case for me a long time - I think it actually started when I first moved to NYC (isn’t it weird how a city full of SO many people can feel lonely?) - but it’s something I’ve started to actively work on. It’s soo important to be comfortable (and ENJOY) alone time … It’s truly a skill to be your own best friend. Whether that means staying in on a Friday night by yourself, a solo trip or eating out at a restaurant sans friends/your partner.

A lot of people DMed us asking if I was alone on this trip - and the answer is yes, I spent the second half of it completely solo! I did early AM yoga, I ate nourishing food, I swam, I relaxed and I filled my days with just me, myself and I … and it was SO incredibly rejuvenating!

SORENESS LEVEL RN: HIGH. ⬆️

We took @nofarmethod yesterday AM and our bodies are seriously feeling the feels right now. Here’s the scoop …

Nofar is an all-star, advanced pilates instructor who currently teaches classes out of Pilates Habitat. Essentially, her classes were so popular & quick to fill that she started renting her own space within the studio to teach her method. Not only is she tough as nails, but her personality makes this class one you’re not going to want to skip (she had us howling!). Nofar’s class is broken into half reformer, half cadillac. Expect to do a lot of different & likely new moves (with a big variety of props) throughout … this is not a class recommended for newbies! Don’t fret though, she will have people demonstrate how each move is done & you’ll never feel confused or like you’re losing out on any part of your workout. Trust us when we say we say you will feel. every. single. move. - & there will be lots of deep exhales at the end of the sets (which we were very much taking part in). She also incorporates much needed stretching throughout, and we love her for it.

PS … we have some ~inside scoop~: rumor has it Nofar will be opening her own studio in a the next 6 months in Flatiron … so stay tuned for more on that! And in the meantime, if you’re unable to snag a spot in one of her classes, don’t sweat it bc she now has NINE other instructors teaching her method, with times available on CP (and she assured us they’ve been taking her class for 5+ years & have her method down pat). This week we did a poll on our story to gauge the reaction of a SATC takes London trip to review all the health + wellness offerings we know are booming over there. We LOVED our London communities response - 80% of people voted 👍🏻 to 🇬🇧!!!

So now we’re wondering - for those of you that live outside of NYC - which other places should be on our priority list to travel to & review?! xx #sssssweats

OUR CHALLENGE TO YOU: try to *intentionally* do 5 things throughout the day that make you FEEL GOOD. It’s easier than it sounds (and likely a majority of things you do anyway) … here’s what we (already) did today:
-- 🌼 Woke up early (with 8+ hours of sleep … woo!) to get the day going - it always feels good not to have to rush in the AM.
🌼 Read passages from our meditation books (journey to the heart, which you always see on the story) + wrote in our gratitude journals (3 things we’re grateful for + 3 affirmations).
🌼 Got our greens in early in the day (+ 75 vitamins, minerals, and whole food-sourced ingreds) with @athleticgreens - our nutritional insurance that helps us feel great, every day … it’s literally the ultimate daily all-in-one & supports the gut, heart, body, and mind.
🌼 Took a slowed down, movement-focused pilates class (muscles were like yessss).
🌼Before starting our work, took a moment to have a coffee together & just chat … no phones or laptops.
