Our #dailycoffee habit is affecting our fertility and general health.

Research conducted at the University of Melbourne has found that Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs) that are found in everyday products, including plastic takeaway #coffeecup lids can affect both male and female fertility as well as potential long-term health and fertility of a child in utero.

EDCs are chemicals that interfere with the bodies endocrine system that produce and controls hormones, particularly our #sexhormones – estrogen and #testosterone. These hormones can be disrupted at any point, from production and secretion to binding and action which can cause over or under stimulation of the natural hormone.

Reusable coffee cups are not only good for the environment, make your coffee taste better but will also improve your overall health and fertility.

For more intimacy and connection with your partner make sure not to have electronics in the bedroom. I know I am also guilty of trying to check my emails in by bed- there is only so much time in the day-but what’s most important is seeing and feeling your partner. Work can wait! In addition , laptops directly put on laps are not good for sperm! And electronics near your head are not good for sleep! More information on this in my book Conceiving with Love. #conceivingwithlove #emfprotection #spermhealth #intimacycoach #fertilityjourney #fertilityhelp #ttcsupport #fengshuifertility #tipsforconception #loveheals #miscarriageawareness #pcosawareness #endometriosisawareness #infertilityjourney

Lactobacillus is the main microbial species in the vagina, but did you know they are also present as part of the seminal microbiome?
.
Here are some interesting facts about the seminal microbiome:
📍When sperm are exposed to Lactobacilli in a laboratory setting, sperm are able to swim more effectively and are more likely to survive
📍In some human studies, semen samples with a rich concentration of Lactobacilli had more sperm with a normal morphology (which means they are shaped nicely with one head and one tail)
📍In the lab, Lactobacilli protect sperm from damage by reactive oxygen species which can damage sperm DNA
📍The presence of other bacteria including Anaerococcus, Pseudomonas and Prevotella has been associated with abnormal semen parameters.
📍In seminal fluid it appears that less diversity of bacteria is associated with better sperm quality (in contrast to the gut, where increased diversity is beneficial) .
Pretty interesting right? This data is emerging and lots of research is still needed. But Lactobacilli likely play a big role in semen quality. Because of all the other benefits of probiotic supplementation, it might be worth a try! .

💧Properties of cervical fluid💧

Cervical fluid is full of minerals and metals like sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, zinc, copper, and iron. These elements make up the electrolyte structure of cervical fluid and the concentration changes throughout cycle. This is essentially what kegg measures, all within ~2 minutes each day.

We know we can pass on our hair colour, eye colour and even the shape of our hands and feet to our babies. But did you know we also pass on the state of our general health and wellbeing?

Parents health at the time of conception, and mum’s health throughout pregnancy and lactation have a direct and life long impact on the health of our babies.

One of the most valuable things we can do as parents, is optimise our diet around this time. The food we eat literally builds our bodies, and our babies bodies too.

eat for baby has food options for every stage of the pregnancy journey that nourish our bodies and provide our babies with the best chance of a life of good health.

Your food choices during pregnancy influence your children’s future food preferences.

By the second trimester of pregnancy, your baby has its taste buds and can taste the foods you eat through the amniotic fluid.

Imagine avoiding dinner table frustrations (eat your vegetables...) before they present, simply by eating more vegetables yourself before, during and after pregnancy.

Does your little one enjoy something you loved during pregnancy?

Did you answer yes❗️❓
.
Research reveals that even using your phone for 4 hours a day can reduce sperm production by 25% simply by being exposed to electro magnetic radiation (EMR).
.
Studies have found that men who reported prolonged cell phone use showed lower levels of luteinizing hormone (LH). LH is an important reproductive hormone that is secreted by the pituitary gland in the brain. It is needed for reproduction and can be depleted by the radiation from your cell phone.
.
Prolonged EMR exposure can lead to:
❗️Reduced speed and motility of sperm
❗️Increased risk of sperm abnormalities ❗️Decreased health and viability of sperm.
❗️Decreased overall sperm count, concentration and volume
.
The same principal applies with laptops... keep them out of your laps! (Weird because it has the word lap and top in it) 😅
.
Heat emitted from the battery of your laptop can create a condition called scrotal hypothermia. This is when your testicles experience an elevated temperature. This condition can easily occur when a man sits with his laptop on top of his testes for a prolonged period of time. This has been associated with infertility in men.
.
❗️❗️Infertility however is multifaceted. This is not a post attempted to scare you, but rather an easy fix solution compared to all the other factors that come into play with infertility.

Vitamin E is an antioxidant which helps in fighting the free radicals in the body. A proper level of vitamin E in the body helps in the functions of the central nervous systems and fights the aging processes in the body.

It also helps to increase the thickness of the endometrium with thin uterine lining in women. In men, it helps in increasing the sperm health and motility.

Is your infertility due to poor sperm quality?⁣

The majority of my fertility patients are female, and yet 50% of infertility is male factor. ⁣

It's time for the fellas to step up and improve their sperm quality. Poor sperm quality is linked to miscarriages and congenital heart defects. ⁣

Improving sperm quality is actually relatively easy compared to the work I do with women, so sometimes it may be as simple as one appointment to get things back on track. ⁣

The World Health Organisation acknowledges that a failure of mothers to get a safe, healthy variety of food during pregnancy and lactation has long-term social and economic consequences. By optimising women's health, we shape the health of our children and reduce the chronic disease burden that affects too many people today.

What foods did you include in your pregnancy diet to maximise your nutrition?

You've just got your BFP (congrats!), can your partner stop all of their herbs/supplements or should they keep taking them?
This is a really common question I get in clinic. If they're taking them for health concerns they have as well for sperm health then yes, it's probably best that they keep taking them. I know some of my patient's focus is to get pregnant but ultimately it can become the catalyst for a new health path becoming aware of how to best take care of your body.
If you're wanting to be super cautious through the early stage of your pregnancy, it's completely fine for him to keep taking them so that if you need to try again then you hopefully his sperm health is already ideal.
Realistically, if a male is only taking his supplements for fertility then I often find that most people probabaly stop the fertility based herbs/supplements.
If you're a patient of mine, this will definitely be one of the things we discuss in your first pregnancy naturopathic appointment and together we can work out the best plan for you as a couple.

Food has changed from how it once was.
We no longer have a direct relationship with the foods we eat.
We no longer know how, or by whom our food was grown.
Our food doesn't even look like real food.
The nutrients we are told are in our food aren't actually measured.
We can no longer assume that something described as food is good for us.

eat for baby is committed to asking the tough questions and ensuring we can give you answers that are the whole truth, not just marketing spin.

For example, you will know that the nutrients listed in our nutrient information panel are really in the food, because we will have measured them.

We don't have blind faith in our food system, and don't believe you should either.

For optimal sperm production, it is essential that the testes remain approximately 2˚C cooler than core body temperature. Which is why, the testes hang exterior to the body. An increase of a mere 1˚C from the optimal temperature can increase fertility by up to 40%. When using a laptop on your lap, you naturally bring your legs together to allow a stable surface to use your laptop. By doing this, the testes are absorbing your core body temperature; being insulated by your thighs and with heat from the laptop radiating down and being trapped in the groin.

While there are still sceptics whether laptop use decreases male fertility, there is no doubt that prolonged increased scrotal temperatures have a damaging effect on spermatogenesis. It is recommended that when possible to use your laptop on a table and if possible, never on your lap.

You say "tomato", I say "tomato"- we say, "cook them first!". Tomatoes, when cooked, can significantly improve male fertility by improving sperm morphology (shape) & motility (speed) according to a recently published, double-blind study at the University of Sheffield. The subjects were given LactoLycopene, a compound found in tomatoes, but only when cooked. This is a mince pie. Another festive favourite in the UK - now these, I quite like👍

As long as there is NO BOOZE in them, which I consider wrong, wrong, wrong. Occasionally an iced topped mince pie is acceptable😀
Love, hate or 'meh'? Go!

4️⃣ Mint 🌱 Peppermint and spearmint may make a calming tea, but the menthol in mint may reduce testosterone levels. 📝 According to a study paper in Advanced Pharmaceutical Bulletin, scientists treated female rats with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) with spearmint essential oil to test its effects on the disorder. Researchers noted that spearmint essential oil reduced testosterone levels in these rats. 🔎 A review posted to BMC Complementary & Alternative Medicine also noted that there is some high-quality evidence showing that mint Lowers Testosterone levels in women with PCOS. However, there is not enough high-quality evidence surrounding the effect of the herb in general. 💡 Most of the research on the topic focuses on animal models or women. Future studies should investigate the effects of mint in both sexes to get a better overall picture.

A normal sperm count ranges from 15 million to more than 200 million sperm cells per milliliter of semen. Once again, lower than normal sperm count is reflecting negatively on male fertility. Sperm cells are mixed with the liquid in order for them to form the semen that is later ejaculated once orgasm has been reached. #Pregnancy #SpermCell #SpermHealth

New research has been conducted on men with male factor infertility diagnosis. The results suggest that male factor infertility is viewed by men as a failure of masculinity, as stigmatising and silencing, and as an isolating and traumatic experience. Societal norms need to change if we are going to combat the male fertility epidemic that is sweeping across the globe. Male factor infertility is not a representative of the man but is a medical condition that needs seeing too.

On this #fertilityfriday let's talk nuts...⁣

We know that healthy fats are very good for us. ⁣⁣
And nuts are full of the good stuff.⁣

The even better news is that research has shown that walnuts may also improve semen health due to all the goodness they contain.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Add half a cup to your daily diet... yes both men and women and help improve fertility.

Sperm motility is very crucial in your reproductive health. This is because the sperm needs to swim for it to reach and join the egg.

This means that sperm motility is important to promote natural conception and pregnancy. These will not happen if your sperm does not move. #spermmotility #spermhealth #menshealth #sexualhealth #pregnancy

AMH (meaning “anti-Mullerian hormone”) is a hormone secreted by the cells of the developing follicles (or egg sacks) in the ovaries. Once secreted from these growing follicles, AMH stops more immature ones from being recruited into the maturation process, which prevents all of the eggs from maturing at the same time.⠀

Because an AMH level measurement shows the number of eggs maturing in the ovaries and on their way to ovulation, AMH is considered to be an indicator of a woman’s ovarian reserve and is most helpful if you decide to freeze the eggs or undergo IVF treatments.⠀

In general AMH can predict the age of onset of menopause with some degree of accuracy.⠀

However, even with low AMH, conception is possible because even if there are not many follicles remaining in the ovary, their quality can be improved with nutrition and lifestyle.⠀

In contrast, I’ve seen women with high AMH level and got excited thinking they have higher chances of conceiving. But unfortunately higher than normal AMH for that age is a sign of #PCOS, since many follicles are stimulated to grow at the same time but none of them get be to recruited for ovulation.⠀

So the key factor in here that will tell you about your future fertility is not your AMH level but how well you’re taking care of the eggs you have left.⠀

I think having egg quality in mind when planning to have a baby, regardless if you’ve been struggling for a while or just started, it’s super highly important! That’s because it will guarantee a healthy egg that will be successfully fertilized, you will have an uncomplicated full-term pregnancy, and healthy happy baby.⠀

When I’m working with my patients these are the steps I have them to follow:⠀
Eat foods that support healthy hormone balance⠀
Increase dietary antioxidants⠀
Manage stress with relaxation techniques⠀
Reduce environmental toxins⠀
And I have them consider taking some supplements like DHEA, CoQ10, Melatonin, Myo-inositol and a good quality prenatal.

Yup, it’s true. When it comes to diet, think high intakes of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and fish and low intakes of meat (the Mediterranean Diet is all about this). The Meditterannean diet has been associated with higher sperm concentration, total sperm count and motility, plus it’s known for its heart health benefits, too! Bonus.

Low sperm motility represents a factor that has a significant impact on male infertility. Today, we see more and more cases of low sperm motility, and the only question in mind is what can be done to treat this issue to the point where a natural process of fertilization and conceiving can happen so the infertility rates can finally drop? #spermmotility #spermhealth #lowspermmotility #menshealth #sexualhealth

💥 ❝Could You Have Low Testosterone?❞ 💁‍♂️ Testosterone is a sex hormone often associated with Males, though females have small amounts. If a male has a low level of testosterone, the symptoms can include Erectile dysfunction, and Reduced bone mass and Sex drive. 🔸 The hormone has many important functions, including: ▪ the development of the bones and muscles
▪ the deepening of the voice, hair growth, and other factors related to appearance
▪ the production of sperm 👉 Testosterone production can slow as a person ages, and many older men have symptoms of low testosterone. 💯 The American Urology Association define low testosterone as less than 300 nanograms (ng) of the hormone per deciliter (dl) of blood. They also reported that about 2 in every 100 men have Low Testosterone.

A healthy maternal diet up to three years before pregnancy can optimise pregnancy outcomes and the long-term health of babies.
Diets characterised by a high intake of fruit, vegetables, legumes, nuts and fish and low intake of red and processed meats are associated with lower risk of gestational diabetes, high blood pressure in pregnancy and preterm birth. Women whose diet is made up of mostly processed foods have an increased risk of preterm delivery and giving birth to shorter babies.

Whether you are planning for pregnancy, trying to conceive or receiving fertility assistance, what you eat matters.

eat for baby offers foods that are packed with the nutrients you need to prepare your body for your pregnancy journey.

Testosterone is essential for the development of sperm. If you have taken anabolic steroids to assist in getting that well built physic, your natural ability to produce testosterone may have been stopped in which case so has your sperm development. Do not take testosterone supplements if you wish to conceive. While testosterone is essential, supplementation is detrimental. This is due to the body recognising that there is testosterone in the body so it will not produce its own. If the body is not producing its own testosterone, sperm will not be created; these processes are intertwined. You must seek help from your medical professional to assist in hopefully reversing the damage caused by the anabolic steroids.

I have had a very busy year and would like to just say thank you to every client who has stepped into my treatment room, to anyone who has given the gift of reflexology with me to a friend or family member, and to eveyone who supports me - thank you, so much 🙌

So the girls put my sperm costumes on and then decided the exercise ball was the perfect egg. This is their version of the sperm penetrating the egg.

I love it when workshop students have kids because it feels like what I am teaching makes a difference for the next generation too.

This week over on my blog I am busting through some common male fertility myths. 👍🏻
These are all common ideas that many of us have been led to believe.
Before I became a fertility nutritionist I’m sure I believed some of them too, especially this one.
👉🏻
Age does not affect male fertility. *SPOILER ALERT* it does. 👍🏻 Link to the blog in my bio.

Let me know, what are some of the things you believe about fertility that you want to find out whether they are TRUE or FALSE?

The statistics for postpartum depression and anxiety are shocking: 1 in 10 women and 1 in 20 men in Australia experience antenatal depression and or anxiety. All the women at eat for baby experienced some form of postpartum depression. We all continue working to maintain our mental health, as we do our physical health. We want to encourage women to talk about it so we can all help each other through the journey.

Did you suffer from depression or anxiety after the birth of your child/children?
What did it look like for you?
Can you share some of your self care tips for when you are feeling down or stressed?

Have you or your partner been told you have #Azoospermia?

Azoospermia is when a man doesn’t have any sperm in his semen. The average man has 100–300 million sperm in his semen, but if a man has no sperm detected, it can be difficult for couples to get pregnant. Azoospermia can be diagnosed by performing at least two semen analyses. To learn more, including treatment options, head to utahmenshealth.com.

It is so easy when struggling with infertility to allow your emotions to get the better of you. And that's OK, so long as you can pull yourself back up again, stride forward with purpose, conquer your fears of what you cannot control and focus on what you can. Do not allow yourself to fall through the rabbit hole into self-demise. Not only will this put a strain and possibly ruin your relationship with your partner but also you need to look after your body nutritionally and spiritually no matter if you’re male or female. Stress, anxiety and depression which is commonly associated with poor health choices dramatically affects both female and male fertility. “But it’s no use now,” thought poor Alice, “to pretend to be two people! Why there’s hardly enough of me left to make one respectable person!” – Chapter 1, Down the Rabbit-Hole.

"Using Maca root (Lepidium meyenii) to benefit health isn’t a new fad! This superfood root has been cultivated as a source of food and nutrition for about 2,000 years in the mountains of Peru, where it has had a strong reputation as a fertility-enhancing part of the diet.

Maca root is a member of the Brassica family, similar to kale, broccoli and cabbage. It does not contain any type of hormone but supports the major glands involved in hormonal balance– the pituitary gland, thyroid gland and adrenal glands. In nourishing these glands, maca works to balance the hormones already produced by the body, enhance libido and increase stamina."

I was given this list of suggestions by an acupuncturist who specializes in fertility to help with my PCOS in 2017 when I tried to get pregnant the first time. I checked off almost all items of the list and now it's time to get into it again. I'm starting by cutting out sugar and taking supplements. December might seem like the worst time because there are going to be so many goodies all around but it's also the best time to get serious. It's worth it for a baby. I don't know if any of the supplements did help, especially since we had an insemination, but I want to do everything I can. An insemination is always available as plan b. And of course hubby will take supplements too because #spermhealth 😊

One of the most crucial factors in male fertility is a healthy sperm. So if you and your partner are trying to have a baby, the quality of your sperm can be improved by eating the right kind of food.

Markers of sperm health include sperm morphology, sperm count, sperm motility, and semen volume. These markers should be given utmost importance to promote your sperm health, and one of the ways is to choose the food you eat. #spermhealth #foods #malefertility #menshealth #health

When I was struggling with unknown cause infertility, I focused on getting myself as happy and healthy as possible. The six months prior to this decision which was post miscarriage I had gained a lot of weight, was eating terribly and all round not looking after myself. Making this conscious effort to better myself helped me recover emotionally from my loss, reduced the stress and anxiety associated with infertility and getting healthy (eating the right foods, not drinking as much alcohol or coffee and exercising 5-6 times a week) prepared my body for the pregnancy I knew was sure to come soon. I hope my story can inspire someone else to focus on their health which will bring them one step closer to being able to conceive but will also make the emotional toll of infertility that little bit easier. What are you doing to increase your fertility and chances of conception? Please share what you are doing so that we can help inspire those who are struggling.

Only 4% of Australian adults (that's 4 people in every 100) and 1% of Australian children (that's 1 child in every 100) eat the recommended dietary intake of vegetables and legumes/beans. Improving this could dramatically improve the health of all Australians.

As parents and parents to be, we are the major influencers of our childrens diet. During pregnancy our babies taste the foods we eat via the amniotic fluid, after birth they taste our food via the breastmilk, and at weaning and into childhood they observe everything we do and will make the choices we make.

The early life of our children is an optimal time to improve the health of the whole family.

So often fertility issues fall onto a women’s shoulders , but it takes two to tango. It is thought that male factors are responsible for 40-50% of infertility cases ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Semen quality has declined by approximately 50-60% worldwide over the past 40 years!! It is thought that the following lifestyle factors are contributing to this decline ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
🔸pollution⁣⁣
🔸psychological stress⁣⁣
🔸smoking⁣⁣
🔸alcohol consumption⁣⁣
🔸pesticides in food ⁣⁣
🔸poor diet⁣⁣
⁣⁣
So men listen up, these are 3 nutrients that you need to start eating now to get those swimmers into prime condition...⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Zinc 🥩 🐟 🥛 🥜 ⁣⁣
A low intake of zinc can lead to low sperm count so include meat, poultry, seafood (especially oysters!), pumpkin seeds & dairy into your diet regularly. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Folate 🥦 🥝 🥑 🍞 ⁣⁣
Plays an important role in creating genetic material which it is why it is so important for both egg & sperm health! Load up on green leafy vegetables, kiwi fruit, avocado & include breads/ cereals fortified with folic acid ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Omega 3 fats 🐟 🍣🥜⁣⁣
Research suggests that omega 3 fats can improve sperm motility, reduce inflammation & improve the membrane around the sperm head so that it can contain all the ⁣enzymes needed to fuse and fertilise the egg. ⁣⁣
Oily fish such as salmon and tuna are one of the best sources of omega 3, aim to eat 2-3 serves each week to meet your requirements

🔑KEYS TO HEALTHY SPERM (Part 2)
#MensHealth
Our microscopist @kimulv recorded this video of healthy mature sperm cells for us to share with you guys! Notice how these little swimmers look like they are searching for something! On Monday, we discussed the ‘acrosome reaction’ in detail & how the ovum (the female reproductive cell or ‘egg’) normally allows one of these sperm cells to penetrate through its plasma membrane in order to become fertilized; this is how babies are made in the microscopic world!! Sperm health is essential to male fertility & it plays a central role in a males ability to reproduce. According to the National Library of Medicine, one of the most important modifiable risk factors that can improve sperm health in men is smoking cessation (quitting cigarette smoking!!). Smoking has been shown to have a detrimental effect on various parameters of semen analysis. A cross-sectional analysis of 2,542 healthy men from 1987 to 2004 found that cigarette smokers had lower semen volumes, sperm counts, & percentage of motile sperm compared to men who did not smoke. Further, it was suggested that the relationship between smoking & sperm concentration was dose-dependent. Indeed, men who smoked > 20 cigarettes per day experienced a 19% reduction in sperm concentration compared with nonsmokers, even after controlling for age, recent fevers, & duration of abstinence as well as diseases in reproductive organs. On Saturday, we will be concluding our semen series with a list of foods that have been proven to have a statistically significant relationship with better sperm quality! Stay tuned guys! This one goes out to the guys out there – all 5 of them who follow me 😉 (minus my husband because he’s been hearing about this for years)
.
A new study came out in March looking at the impact of sedentary work (desk job) on sperm health. The results showed that men who spent at least 50% of their work time in a sedentary position had significant sperm DNA damage. In fact, a sedentary job DOUBLED the risk that sperm DNA would be compromised.
.
Wondering why this happens? The likely answer is HEAT STRESS! Testicular heat stress causes sperm to develop abnormally. This is why I recommend men avoid wearing tight underwear, going in hot tubs, and working with a laptop on their lap. Adding this to the list – I’m telling all sperm producers to get up and walk around during the day, get the circulation going to cool off the pelvic region and keep those sperm in good shape!
.
On a related note: my hubby said, “how has nobody invented desk chairs with fans in the seat?” So if anyone was looking for a billion dollar idea…💡

40-50% of #infertility cases in couples is from #maleinfertility
.⠀
Whaaaa? This is why I encourage all my female patients to bring along their partner to take my 3 month #preconception program, especially if they're over 40.⠀
.⠀
How does your semen look and what can it tell you about your sperm quality? PH?⠀
.⠀
So many women I see are unnecessarily blamed (that word makes me cringe). There is no blame on anyone.⠀
.⠀
Men are responsible for FERTILITY. This is what I want to start hearing.⠀
.⠀
There are ways to help those bad boys swim faster. Research from the Netherlands showed men with a spare tire or belly fat are more likely to have lower sperm counts.⠀
.⠀
Smoking pot, drinking alcohol, cycling, and warming up those bad boys don't help either.⠀
.⠀
Talk to your doc about supplements such as #Zinc Tribulus L-carnitine, L-Arginine, pycogenol, and #antioxidants that can help sperm quality. Ensure that your doctor addresses your diet and lifestyle as well. And get that cell phone or computer away from your 🏀 s.⠀

“I ran a fertility clinic for 4 years, so I am well aware of the statistics around male fertility decline. Of the 1 in 8 couples who are infertile, 30-50% of the issues are due to the man in the relationship. Yet, in today’s world, fertility is primarily seen as a woman’s burden to bear. When a couple is having trouble getting pregnant, the onus is almost always on the female. However, the woman is only half of the equation. In order to fully understand the root of the reproductive challenges that a couple is facing, it is imperative to test the man’s fertility as well. Too many times, couples endure months of distress and heartbreak, only to find that the cause of the problem is not what they initially thought. I witnessed this time and time again at the fertility clinic I managed. It is time to for men to step up, and take on more responsibility in family planning.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I am 31 years old and married. My wife and I know we want children someday, but that day is not today. It is my duty, as a husband and a man, to ensure that I am my healthiest self when that time comes. Just as my wife has been proactive about her reproductive health, I made the decision to test and freeze my healthiest sperm. When I envision our future family, I know I’ve made the right decision.” - Daniel Madero, Head of Partnerships at Legacy @givelegacyinc #ad #sponsored⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

ANTI-SPERM ANTIBODIES: THE BASICS
.
Both men and women can produce anti-sperm antibodies (ASAb), but I’ll mostly focus on women here.
.
Antibodies are proteins stimulated by the immune system to protect the body against foreign invaders (when you think about it like that, it’s actually kind of amazing that ALL women don’t naturally have antibodies to sperm.) Usually women have “tolerance” for sperm cells, meaning their immune system gives them a pass (that makes sense, since we need our species to survive).
.
Anti-sperm antibodies damage sperm and make it difficult for them to do their job! There can be antibodies against sperm tails, making it tough for them to swim, or against sperm heads, making it difficult for them to penetrate an egg. If this is the reason pregnancy is not happening, it is called “immunologic infertility.”
.
In women, anti-sperm antibodies can be measured both in the serum (blood) and in vaginal secretions. Some studies suggest that ASAb may contribute to the 20% of couples who experience “unexplained infertility”, but it isn’t routinely tested at this time.
.
Conventional treatment includes steroids (these turn down the immune system and reduce ASAb formation), sperm washing (to cleanse the ASAb away), or intra-uterine insemination (this deposits sperm right into the uterus, bypassing cervical fluid that could be filled with antibodies). If you’re trying to get pregnant, it is generally recommended to use condoms outside the fertile window to decrease exposure (the less the immune system “sees” the culprit, the less reactive it will be). .
A Naturopathic/Functional doc would also ask why you are having a heightened immune response. Is there an underlying allergy, gut condition, chronic inflammation? Likely a combination of lifestyle medicine, nutraceuticals, and botanicals could also be used to support a healthy immune response.

😲Did you know that 50% of infertility cases is male factor dependent? One of the causes of male infertility is abnormal jizzaload aka Sperm
.
👨More than 90% of male infertility cases are due to low sperm counts, poor sperm quality, or both. Male infertility can be caused by several other factors including anatomical problems, hormonal imbalances, and genetic defects.
.
Based on the most current World Health Organization guidelines, a healthy sperm count is 15 million per millilitre (ml) or at least 39 million per sample. A sperm counts lower than 10 million per ml is considered abnormal and commonly associated with male infertility.
.
💪Here are some fast facts on how to increase sperm count
.
🤸Exercise ~ Several studies have shown that weight loss and exercise in obese and overweight individuals can lead to improved or increased sperm counts
.
😱Reduce stress ~ Any form of stress can cause the body to take defensive actions and conserve energy. In times of distress, it makes biological sense for the body to become less concerned with reproduction and more focused on surviving.
.
🚭Stop smoking ~ Enough said!
.
🍊🥑Increase intake of antioxidant-rich foods
Antioxidants that may contribute to a healthy sperm count include:
Selenium
Vitamin C (ascorbic acid)
Vitamin E
Glutathione
Coenzyme Q10 (link in bio @drdemeri for recommended CQ10 supplement)
.
☣Avoid environmental toxins ~ As the environment and atmosphere become increasingly polluted and congested, environmental factors, such as air quality and toxic chemical exposure, have frequently been linked to reduced sperm health and total count ~ Discover how toxic your body is just click link in bio @drdemeri and take free Toxic Quiz

Semen is much, much more than just sperm.
.
Although many people use the words “sperm” and “semen” as if they were synonymous, how tragically wrong these mortal fools are! The truth is that sperm comprises only about 5-10% of any given male jizzload. The rest is comprised of rich, happy bodily fluids and a dazzling array of nutrients that aid, protect, and comfort the sperm in its long and arduous journey toward the haughty female egg.
.
Semen is so chock-full of nutrients. It contains vitamin C, fructose, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, vitamin B12, zinc, nitrogen, and calcium.
.
The average size of a male jizzload is half a teaspoon. Every male who’s reading this is grabbing a teaspoon and desperately checking to see how he measures up to others.
.
There are around 200 million sperm in an average human jizzload. Don't ask me why I'm stuck on #jizzload.
.
Sperm take about 75 days to grow in the testes.
Just as men are always expected to be making money, they are always making sperm, too—roughly 1,500 every second!!! Sperm can live for up to five days inside a vagina, depending on how friendly the vagina is. On average, sperm live about 24-48 hours once inside the human vagina. If the host female’s acidic balance is propitious, sperm can live up to five days inside her womb before perishing.

Men never stop making semen. Although women stop producing eggs after menopause, men continue creating sperm and seminal fluid up until the day they croak.
.
Good diet & lifestyle = good sperm. Sperm count and quality can be greatly affected by a man’s dietary habits. Foods that will give you vibrant, healthy, muscular, happy, robust sperm include oysters, pumpkin seeds, bananas, walnuts, asparagus, garlic, lean beef, and organic dark chocolate. It’s also important to drink plenty of water.
.
Bad diet = bad sperm. If you want a healthy baby, put down the cigarettes and bongs, stay away from the vodka, say “no” to the bacon, cheese, cupcakes, marijuana, alcohol, sausages, and drink decaf. That’s if you want a healthy baby—I didn’t say anything about having a happy life. 😂
.
And keep them babies cool! Hot testes on a bike or spandex are no bueno!

Semen is much, much more than just sperm.

A woman’s blood, urine, saliva and especially cervical pH is very important to allow sperm to live and do their job fertilizing and egg.
.
The Standard American Diet does not permit that with too many grains and not enough vegetables and fruit. You can test your own PH and create a good environment for sperm.
.
You can test your pH saliva or urine with pH strips often found at the local drug store. or the Hydrion pH paper from Amazon for $8. Potential hydrogen is what pH stands for. Ideal levels for pH lie between 7.0 and 7.2.
.
Testing must be done throughout the day. Waking, first urine, second urine. If you are too acidic under a 6.8 try to eat less acidic foods, less grains, meat, alcohol and more fruits and veggies.
.
Lemons and limes are acidic, but they make the body more alkaline when consumed in water.
.
Other alkaline foods are sweet potatoes, pumpkin seeds, sea vegetables, among other. The body naturally tries to make our food more alkaline, but this helps the process by eating foods that make that process easier.

Semen is much, much more than just sperm.⠀
.⠀
Although many people use the words “sperm” and “semen” as if they were synonymous, how tragically wrong these mortal fools are! The truth is that sperm comprises only about 5-10% of any given male jizzload. The rest is comprised of rich, happy bodily fluids and a dazzling array of nutrients that aid, protect, and comfort the sperm in its long and arduous journey toward the haughty female egg.⠀
.⠀
Semen is so chock-full of nutrients. It contains vitamin C, fructose, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, vitamin B12, zinc, nitrogen, and calcium.⠀
.⠀
The average size of a male jizzload is half a teaspoon. Every male who’s reading this is grabbing a teaspoon and desperately checking to see how he measures up to others.⠀
.⠀
There are around 200 million sperm in an average human jizzload. Don't ask me why I'm stuck on #jizzload.⠀
