Blueberry avocado protein smoothie
Recipe
1/2 cup of frozen wild blueberries 
1 medium size avocado 
1 medium size cut up frozen banana 
1 cup of dairy free milk 
1.5 scoop(s) of vanilla protein of choice 
1-2 tbsps of ground flax seeds to garnish 
Stevia to taste optional 
Directions (serves 1- 2)
1. In a blender add 1/2 of dairy free milk with blueberries, blend until smooth  pour mixture into two glasses half full.
2. Rinse blender with water. Then add in the remainder of the dairy free milk, protein powder, frozen banana and avocado. blend until smooth. 
3. Pour this mixture to top off glasses with the blueberry mixture.
4. Garnish with ground flax.

I’m not a big fan of packing, I either take too much or not enough, when I’m deciding to travel light. I’m also one of those last minute packers, but this time, I laid my clothes out at the weekend and took the time to try things on. Which I normally don’t. Yikes!!! The winter cover up has not been in my favour and I have clearly been a little more indulgent than I thought I was 😳 I seriously need to get back into good habits and eating healthier. I’m cleaning up in September and jumping back on my #30daystohealthyliving Enough is enough! I’ve been feeling it in my back and joints and my exercise has taken a bit of a back seat again. Can’t wait to get back in the driver seat of my health. Am I the only one who lets things go during winter?

If you’ve trained in a gym, you’ve seen people carrying around their protein shake so they can drink it immediately post-workout and hit the “anabolic window”. However, evidence suggests that’s not at all necessary.

In the past, research has shown benefits for strength and hypertrophy from consuming protein quickly post-workout. However, once total protein is equated for those benefits disappear. This is true for both strength and hypertrophy.

This means that it doesn’t matter when you consume protein as long as you get it in at some point.

If you really want to maximize recovery, you should actually prioritize carbohydrates post-workout to replenish muscle glycogen, especially after challenging, endurance-based training.

I’m a big fan of coffee and protein about 30 minutes before a workout. The coffee helps ramp up my body for the workout.

This is ideal before a morning workout - as you probably don’t want too much caffeine in the afternoon. It *can* give some people trouble sleeping.

Make sure to mix the water and protein in your shaker bottle first, and then add the ice and coffee and mix again.

Feel free to add more protein to fit your needs.

If you feel this isn’t enough to fuel your workout, also consider adding a small piece of fruit about 30 minutes before your workout to elevate blood glucose levels.

Both are fine, because the water and the fiber of the fruit is still in it😋 However, the #smoothie can be gone in two minutes, because you don’t have to chew carefully; so this option is ideal for people who are struggling to consume enough calories (Please note that I‘m not saying that smoothies cause weight gain, it’s just easier to consume more calories this way; if you drink a smoothie instead of a meal, or can promote weight loss, too).
