I wrote a little thing in @sydneymorningherald on my #dyefree natural hair transition over the past 20 months, and what it’s meant to embrace salt and pepper me: ‘Strange as it now seems, dyeing your hair was seen as taboo in the past. Shock, horror! You didn’t want anyone to guess your "secret". But sometime between 1950, when a reported 7 per cent of women coloured their hair, and today, when an estimated 70-75 per cent of women regularly have dyes and bleaches applied, having a "colour done" has become the norm.' But plenty of women are bucking this trend, and making their own pro-grey movement. It’s a personal decision, and one that has its rewards: ‘After 20 months, I have saved a shocking six thousand dollars in salon visits, highlights, dyes, toners and treatments to counter the drying and damaging effects of all those chemicals. I have for the past couple of hours been trying to remember my doctor at Rush Hospital in Meridian that saved my life. I want to say Dr. Easley or Ealy. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I say that he saved my life because he wasn’t the doctor that first diagnosed me as a diabetic. He was the one that cared. He didn’t try to dumb things down. He gave me a book to read. One of the lines I still remember says control of your disease comes from knowledge. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This book gave me confidence. It also scared me some because at the time the book was giving me that in my forties my quality of life would decline. Me being me I charged on. Thank goodness I’m a science geek. Degrees in Microbiology and Medical Technology. I have some understanding how glucose affects the body and how other organisms LOVE sugar. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But I don’t know everything and I need to learn more because things are changing all the time. New technology and research are out there. It’s been over 3 months since my last post, my workouts are on schedule and step by step I’m moving forward to my goal.
What happened since September? I found my trainer who’s not only is the professional and very talented lady but is my inspiration. She gave me guidance about food so I finally have balanced diet. The scale moved and I’m losing inches. I feel happy and very motivated. To be continued... 😉

I watched a documentary on Netflix about social media the other day. It was very interesting listening to people talk about if they don’t get a certain number of “likes” in a certain period of time they will delete their post. 🤔 Those people that follow you to get you to follow them then immediately unfollow you is astonishing to me as well! 🤔 Or what about random strangers who want to criticize people for using a filter or photo app? 🤔 .

For me, posting on Instagram is just a fun way to be creative, connect with like-minded people, spread some positivity and good vibes, and have some fun! If I want to use a filter on my photo I will! If you want to follow me to just unfollow me, guess what...I’ll unfollow you right back!! I honestly don’t care if anyone “likes” my picture or not, if I like it, that’s all that matters to me! If I want to take a pic with a cheesy pose and a big smile I will because you will never find me with a pouty face trying to do some seductive, sultry pose because that’s just not me...but if it’s you that’s awesome so post all those pics you want!! .
