Do you need cardio?

Don’t get me wrong it has its benefits (obviously) but it seems to be the beginners ‘go to’ when trying to lose weight, why?

If you ONLY do cardio, you WILL lose weight, but this doesn’t mean you’ll only lose fat. Muscle stores glycogen which is used as fuel during exercise. Once this is depleted, your body will need to utilise other fuel sources, I.e fat and muscle tissue.

If your body does not use its muscle to full potential and consume adequate protein, your body will burn muscle for energy, it is A LOT easier to break down muscle than it is to break down fat.

As well as glycogen, muscle stores water. When you deplete your glycogen stores, you lose water, hence you lose WEIGHT. The more muscle you lose, the less glycogen and water your body holds, and the more weight will be lost.

Weight does not equal fat, so although the scales might make you smile, you may not have progressed as much as you think. And once you eat a bit more, you’ll find the weight jumps back quite quickly.

Cardio is great, but it’s best when combined with resistance/weight training is FAT LOSS is the goal 🥅

Neutral wrist, knuckle burpees before a long day of massage 💆🏼 that will be spent mostly in wrist extension. I Know my job posture/mechanical requirements .... my workouts before a day of #massage help wake me up and the day after....my workout supports  exercises that offset all the postures required fur massage. . They are based on recovery and opening the body up. I have found that pulling/focused posterior chain work is an absolute must,  along with lots of movement. #massagetherapy #massagetherapist #personaltrainer #functionalmassage #onlinecoach #bodyweighttraining #calisthenics

I cannot believe this was already a week ago. ✨
It was one of the most amazing times that I had. Getting to know other people within the business, making new friends, and just hearing how this business has changed so many lives. Physically, mentally, and even financially.

I used to be the one saying “oh yeah that is great, I don’t have the followers” or “it is too expensive”, but you know what with hard work and determination anyone can do this. ✨
You just need to believe in yourself. For me I had to stop making the excuses, and be in the right mindset, but I actually put myself first and made the leap!

We have to be smart with our training in the gym. Do a solid warm-up to get your muscles loose and the blood flowing. Do some mobility work, either targeted to an area that is tight or  needs work, or a general mobility exercise to a major area like your hips, shoulders or lower back! Then go train, go hard on days that our body feels good, and scale it back on days that just don’t feel right! Cool down at the end of your work out. Maybe do some skill work or ride the bike for a while to let your body slow down. Now this part is important. You must recovery after your workout and let your body repair itself! “Make our tribe stronger”

Recently I ran an incredible two-day event in California helping people build their high ticket program, design it and get it launched….in just one weekend. I know, sounds like it can’t be done, but we did achieve it!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And whilst I was there I was explaining that there are four reasons people buy into High Ticket Programs (no matter who is selling them and what they do)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

It teaches them to make more  money⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Fat blasting HIIT workout coming your way - Knew I didn't have time to hit the gym today (due to work), also knew I was in much need of a sweat session so I decided to do this quick 30 min circuit. This burns about 220 calories so give this a try! 
Not shown: 10 rounds of 20 sec/30 sec off sprints (optional - due it if you want to burn more cals) 
4 sets of 30 sec jumping squats
4 sets of 40 In and out crunches 
4 sets of 20 jumping lunges repeat 5-6rounds total!

I love love love snacking on raw veggies. Baby carrots, cucumber, red pepper, broccoli, and snap peas are some of my favorites. But when I suggest this to clients, this is usually the response I get:
“Ugh, I CANNOT eat plain raw veggies. Gross!!” #
Listen, I get it. They’re bland, and sometimes bitter. But adding a dip or spread can make them taste 10000x better (and actually edible!) I’ve had clients say “I can’t eat veggies without ranch/hummus/guacomole/insert your favorite dip here”. Guess what? THAT’S FINE. **I’d rather have you eat veggies with dip than no veggies at all**

Now, some dips are better than others. I love hummus with veggies, but if you’re a ranch die-hard, try making your own! Get a salt-free powdered ranch dip starter pack, and mix it with plain Greek yogurt. This way, you’ll get some protein too!

Did some shoulder supersets after (which will be in my YouTube commentary!). These 2.5kg increments in DBs are always tricky for pressing movements, especially shoulders. For multiple reasons I can think of; multiple variables. (1) Unlike the barbell where you can increase load with 1.25kg plates per side, these 2.5kg jumps per arm are pretty huge esp if you can’t do many reps to begin-in the strength range. (2) Shoulders aren’t a huge muscle group to begin so the smallest weight increments can alr be HUGE difference compared to muscle groups such as legs or back, even chest. (3) Barbells are by nature more stable as your whole body is connected with a naturally stronger base. Unlike barbells where the bar connects your grip and makes things easier to stabilise and hence load more weight, DB movements have less intrinsic stability and hence the 2.5kg on DBs affects your technically efficient pressing strength more than its respective barbell movement⁣

That’s why a spotter really comes in handy not just for setting up and safety but to calibrate the extra resistance from big 2.5kg jumps

Amped for some sleepy shoulder day PRs⁣

Was a very sleepy day but the strength was there, I just needed to get my head in the zone during sets⁣

27.5kg x5 PR (2)⁣
30kg x4 assisted (1)⁣

From being a 16 year old stupidly buying crap supplements that did nothing but wasting £1000’s I’ve learnt many lessons about supplements. One is that just because it’s got fancy packaging, is expensive, they sponsor very well known athletes that it does not mean it’s good. When at university studying nutrition and supplementation it taught me how to identify what ingredients work and what won’t. One thing many supplement company’s do nowadays is boast a whole host of fantastic ingredients but with no where near a high enough dose enough to actually do anything.

One thing that will kill progress in the gym

Yes that thing in my hands.

Your mobile phone.

Now first of all there are those who can train in the gym and can use their phone and have no issues with focus or getting their volume in.

However what I see is a lot of is people literally spending more time on their phone than training.

Scrawling through endless crap on Instagram, Facebook or right now probably seeing what you look like in 40 years time #faceapp.

I know this because I to can be guilty of spending too much time on my phone when I train.

But spending time doing the above detracts focus from your session and eats up valuable time that you could use getting in a few more sets, stretching or just mentally thinking about your next set.

I sometimes hate my mobile phone and I get it, it can almost be addictive but when you are in the gym this should be your time.

Your time to dedicate it to making progress and also escaping work or other stressors in life.

So next time you train try and spend less time on your phone or just turn your mobile data off.

By all means listen to some beats to get you hyped up or film some sets but focus on you and focus on your session.

One of the number one things I hear as a trainer is “𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘸𝘦𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘮𝘺 𝘮𝘪𝘥𝘴𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯.”⁣

That is fine and all, BUT doing thousands of crunches will not help. All that’s doing is getting your abs stronger - not “burn” fat in your stomach area. Just like you can’t decide where your fat goes on your body when you are eating a surplus of calories - you also can’t decide where you will lose it. ⁣
⁣
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐨𝐝𝐲 𝐟𝐚𝐭 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐚 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐜 𝐝𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐭. And here’s the hard truth, typically the stomach area is the last to go. 🤷🏼‍♀️ So no, there is no magic exercise that will make your abs come out overnight. ⁣

Focus on consistency in your diet, in the gym, and make sure you are in a caloric deficit if your end goal is decreasing body fat. ⁣

2. You do NOT have to have six pack abs to be considered healthy. ❤️⁣

So they say our environment dictates our results, so ensure that your daily actions are aligned with your goals. 
When it comes to eating with your partner, your meals should only be the exact same if you have exactly the same bodyweight and training program. 
I train in AM, so I had my carbs are training and with a goal of fat-loss I know that carbs are not required in every meal especially when I am in a calorie deficit. 
Chicken breast with some edamame beans and tomato and chilli sauce mix on top and some avo on the side. Whereas the second meal is for has double chicken and a pack of uncle bens rice to fuel my boyfriends GAA session in the PM. 
With different goals, training and different body shapes and energy requirements we need to fuel differently. If you are eating the same as your partner and don’t know what is going wrong.... 🤷‍♀️ Also realise that there is a difference in body composition and performance goals. My goal is to get and stay lean whilst training, whereas if you play sport and are in a competitive environment your goal is performance based, meaning carbs are your friend, so cycle them around your session.

Maybe it’s different for personal accounts but for business accounts you can still see the total, it just takes a few extra taps 😐

So while you all bang on about how great it is that IG are hiding the likes, and how it is good for mental health etc...to um, *cough* get more ♥️ ‘s 🙄 (and yes I do see the irony). The only people it really seems to affect are those looking at the post (which yeah can be a positive...comparing yourself to others etc etc)...but I think we are being a little bit naive to think that that is why they have done it...don’t ya 🤔

So while it’s all well and good to sing their praises or pseudo-praises 🤨 but let’s not be stupid. While they may have partly made the change for reasons being said, the major reason is the same as why they do any change - to increase revenue 🤷🏻‍♂️ Why else would they be ‘testing’ it rather than just rolling it out globally?

Let’s just be real...it’s just another thing that we all can jump on as the latest trending topic to increase our exposure (this is so meta), because let’s face it - this is the world we live in. HOW TO LANDMINE ROW?!⚡️Follow @alexrichardson.fit @alexnroberto @athleticfitworld @alexrobertomusic for daily fitness and health content!👊🏼SAVE THIS TO REVIEW LATER!🔰TAG A FRIEND WHO NEEDS TO SEE THIS!🙋🏻‍♂️

Use a handle for your landmine rows for increased range of motion to really hit the muscles in the back you are targeting.
.
Use smaller plates as well so you can drop the bar without plates touching the ground, and you can pull the bar closer to your chest.
.
Focus more on pulling with your elbows and less with your forearms.
.
Work on pausing for 1-2 seconds each row to really feel the contraction.
.
Put away your ego and work with lighter load until muscles are working and form is good!👌🏼
