Lately I've been having a rough time with my mental health and thought I'd do a little reading to try and focus. 
The card white sage called to me from The illustrated Herbiary by @maiatoll and after sitting for a while thinking, I understand why. 
A year ago I cut the person that birthed me out of our lives, my whole life I wanted rid of her but being related made it so much harder than just cutting a toxic person out. A few years ago someone I used to know even told me that I should just be happy to have a mother regardless of what she's like, sorry but that's not how it works. We can't choose the family we are born into but we can choose to walk away from it. Thousands or arguments, a lifetime of all manner of abuse and I finally reached my limit. 
I walked away after 1 final argument, being told I was stupid and poorly educated for not agreeing that it's ok to be racist. IT'S NOT OK, it never will be, I will never stand for it, I will not let my daughter listen to it and I will not be insulted for not being it. 
A year later I have had therapy, time to be me, time to leave the negativity behind and I'm becoming the person I really am without fear of judgement, ridicule and abuse.
I hope that this little story gives someone else the strength to walk away from someone/anyone who is causing them pain and torment. It's not easy but sometimes it is needed to be able to grow into who you really are.

I was emotionally drained in 2018, and honestly very unhappy. This year I've done more for MYself than EVER before. I've ALLOWED myself to meet new friends. It was pretty impressive having 50 dads show up to our "Night For The Folks", hosted at the Manly Rugby Club. Many of the fathers from West Manly Public School were a little sceptical, as they didn't identify as "blokes" (which was mentioned in some of our branding). ⁠⠀

It didn't matter. As soon as Gus Worland introduced us, whether they identified as a bloke or a gentleman or a chap, they dived straight into the workshop. Their intention - to strengthen their bond, while gaining tools and practice at improving their relationships with their kids and loved ones. ⁠⠀

One dad realised that: "we see each other most days when dropping off or picking up our kids and we'll ask one another: how are you going? Without really listening or answering that question properly. It's just a habit that deserves more thought, time and honesty." ⁠⠀
.⁠⠀
A young man (non-dad) in his early 20s came along to observe the workshop as he's interested in becoming a facilitator. Halfway through the workshop, he was in tears and declared this to the group: "Growing up, it was just me and my mum and it was pretty tough not having my old man around. Seeing a room full of passionate and loving dads giving up 3 hours of their busy schedules, for their kids, really inspires me".⁠⠀

Let's make 'How are you?' a question again instead of a greeting. Next time to catch up with a mate, be ready to really listen when you ask 'How are you going?' - Will & Ryder - Will & Ryder⁠⠀

The fact that we have such a range of emotions and the ability to have insight on these emotions and communicate about these emotions with others creates a connection that I believe is uniquely human. We have the ability to learn to understand ourselves but also other people on a deep level. Yet so many of us shut down our emotions and it is creating a disconnection in ALL of our relationships with other human beings. 
What do you find most difficult when it comes to your emotions??

💞Dankbaar voor de mensen in mijn omgeving💞

Vroeger dacht ik als ik diploma's heb dan ben ik gelukkig. Als ik een baan heb, ben ik gelukkig. Als ik genoeg geld heb, ben ik gelukkig. Maar niks is minder waar. Met 3 diploma's op zak zit ik al bijna een jaar in de ziektewet en ik ben gelukkiger dan ooit😁

Gelukkig door de mensen om mij heen. Mensen die mij accepteren zoals ik ben. Mensen die ik vrienden en familie mag noemen omdat ze van mij houden en om mij geven. Mensen die ik altijd kan bellen wanneer het moeilijk is maar waar ik tegelijkertijd ook leuke herinneringen mee mag maken🥰

Voor mij gaat het niet meer om materiële zaken of geld om rond te kunnen komen. Het gaat niet meer over zoveel mogelijk diploma's te behalen om te laten zien dat ik iets kan bereiken. Het gaat om de mensen in mijn leven die mij accepteren. Zodat ik stap voor stap ook mezelf kan en mag gaan accepteren😇
.
Dankbaar ben ik dan ook voor alle lieve mensen om mij heen. Die ervoor gezorgd hebben dat ik nu weer uit mijn dal van afgelopen week omhoog aan het klimmen ben❣

I believe if we had been taught about mental health and stress⁣
management in the good old days, we wouldn’t be experiencing the anxiety epidemic that we are today! ⁣

When I was in school there was no mention of mental health and wellbeing!  Thankfully things are now beginning to change, and the younger generations will benefit for sure!⁣
⁣
When Anxiety first struck me down I had absolutely no idea what it was!  It felt like hell and I was convinced I was losing my mind. But 20 years later I hadn’t lost my mind, had a heart attack or anything else that my anxious mind had told me.  I had become a slave to it though, allowing it to dictate where I went, what I did and ALWAYS bowing down to it when it was present. ⁣

Due to my lack of education about ANXIETY I also became a master⁣
at suppressing!  I used distraction,⁣
avoidance, alcohol, food, anything that meant I didn’t have to experience it!⁣
⁣
What I didn’t realise was I had years of stress that had built up inside me that needed to be released. That is why Anxiety arrived in the first place as I was so overloaded with negative thoughts and stress that the alarm went off to kick me up the butt and make some changes.⁣
⁣
But I didn’t make those changes as I didn’t understand the alarm. I just suppressed and suppressed and so the stress kept bubbling away inside me. It is a bit like a boiling kettle, if you try to stop the steam from escaping eventually the kettle will explode. ⁣The steam simply needs to escape.⁣
⁣
This is like stress, it is not meant to sit inside you, it needs releasing.  That is why exercise, walking, meditation, allowing the anxiety is all good for your mental health and wellbeing. As it is burning off or releasing the stress. ⁣
⁣
So, give it a go and start doing things that allow the stress to release and the anxiety to settle.  Know that by doing this your nervous system will return to a calmer state.  Don’t keep that shit inside you, let it go! 💜

I don't open up about this often, but to everyone dealing with depression, suicidal thoughts, anxiety, etc: please stay strong.  Please keep fighting. Don't become a statistic. I know how hard it is sometimes, but you can get through this. Leave behind a story of strength that could help save lives, don't leave behind yet another tragedy. Please don't give up.  People do care. They will listen. They will help.  I promise you. Please push through and keep going.  I see you and I know how hard you're fighting. I'm so proud of you. .

Sounds simple I know #humanofhappiness but o chen notice humans say yes to things, when they need space & time, but feel they should say yes. And no to things which they would love to do but scared of it not working out, being vulnerable, having a good times.... life is messy, but making sure we have a good time is so important. 
Don’t save everything until tomorrow, as @kimingleby & I found, sometimes everything changes in a matter of a few days &  tomorrow doesn’t happen & life is changed in an instance - we have all had this I know.
