🤱🏻 In other words, your child has “linked” the ideas of feeding and sleeping. They think that they need a bottle or nursing BEFORE they can fall asleep.

🍼 By feeding right after naptime – instead of before – you can help your child break this feeding-sleep association.

How dependant are you on your mobile phone?

I realised yesterday just how dependant I was on mine. Out of the blue the screen lock pattern stopped working and I could only access the phone with a secondary security method.
I spend many hours every day on my phone, everything is on my phone .. life is on my phone! The stress I felt when the realisation came that when the phone restarted I would need the pattern due to the encryption. I spent a stressful 24 hours trying to resolve this issue and avoid the inevitable loss of time required to set up a new device.

Its the same sort of stress and anxiety that people feel when we tell them to switch their device off earlier at night, or leave it in another room in order to get a better nights' sleep.

The anxiety of switching off/being without your device is real, but bring tethered to your device and unable to put it down/switch it off can significantly affect your health and your sleep. .

I was meeting with my holistic nutritionist (and basically my life guru) @emilycoxwellness yesterday and came to the conclusion that I want a more consistent nighttime routine and to get in bed a bit earlier. While I have the best intentions, I tend to get sucked into my work, losing track of time and letting my goal bedtime slip away. So, she helped me set up some easy systems that will help me honor this intention and honor my health!⁣
⏰ Every evening I will have an alarm that’s my cutoff time for work (blog, emails, photo editing, etc.). When the alarm goes off, work is done for the night - no exceptions! I’ll be asking Trey to help me respect this!⁣
📱Emily also suggested having set hours for no electronics (minus setting an alarm or other necessary tasks). I’m thinking 10pm to 7am. Think I can do it?? 😬⁣

"Don't wake the baby!" is a common phrase heard in households but actually, if you're trying to follow a sleep schedule it is okay to wake your baby from a daytime nap. A six-month-old baby needs less sleep than a newborn but they don't care what time of day they sleep. So if a six-month-old is getting the majority of the sleep she needs during the day she'll naturally need less sleep at night, which equals less sleep for you too. So take it from me, it is absolutely okay to wake your sleeping baby in pursuit of a schedule.⁠

Since I have been talking about the importance of healthy circadian rhythm balance and melatonin production for sleep, I wanted to show you some of the things that happen when we don’t get healthy, deep, restorative sleep. ⁣

Of course for anti-ageing and longevity poor quality sleep and not enough is a nightmare. It increases our risk of many age related diseases and if you aren’t getting 7-9 hours of sleep a night you will miss out on the glymphatic flush (lymph fluid is flushed into the brain clearing out waste and debris) this is such an important process for our long term health (and an extensive topic I will need to talk about on its own).⁣

Poor sleep will impact how well and easily you lose weight too! ⁣

Obviously I have been talking about blue light exposure and it’s effects on our sleep but here are a few ways you can help support healthy sleep (and circadian rhythm)⁣

✔️Early morning sunlight exposure: first thing in the morning go outside and stand under the sun, with your eyes closed so the sunlight is hitting your eyelids (do it for 3-5 mins) and while you at it go barefoot in the grass⁣
✔️Remove blue and led lights. Check out my posts on @blockbluelight_official
✔️Wear some sexy af blue light blocker glasses at night ⁣
✔️Use a sauna. Buying a sauna is one of the BEST things I have EVER purchased. You will have an insanely deep and refreshing sleep using one before bed⁣
✔️Eat 5 pistachios and half a kiwi fruit 1 hour before bed (supports melatonin, fights free radicals, keeps blood sugar stable)⁣
✔️Have an epsom salt bath (don’t have a bath? Pop some warm water and epsom salt into a bucket of water and soak your feet whilst watching tv etc)⁣
✔️Rub lavender oil on the base of your feet⁣
✔️Listen to the song “Weightless” by Marconi Union (available free on YouTube and spotify)⁣

So many people don't sleep well at night. Whether they have a hard time falling asleep or staying asleep (or both!), the causes of sleep troubles vary wildly, but the results are the same: frustration and exhaustion.

We’ve discussed the importance of having a nightly routine of turning off electronics at least an hour before going to bed, going to sleep at the same time, and cutting of the alcohol hours before bed time. But we haven’t discussed how your environment plays a role in your sleep as well.

Light is one of the main factors that can affect the quality of your sleep, which is why electronics which contain blue light, are recommended to be turned off and out of sight before sleeping. Room temperature is also another main factor. It is best to sleep in a slightly cooler temperature (60-70 degrees Fahrenheit) for optimal sleep. Also having a soothing and peaceful environment around you is very helpful to having restful sleep, like adding an essential oil diffuser or having candles lit before bed.

Don't just pencil them in...

Use a big black sharpie!

For most people, flying by the seat of your pants and HOPING to get a workout in...well it just doesn't work.  So create a date FOR YOURSELF.  Honour yourself by keeping that date.

And remember that there is no rule that says a workout needs to be a length.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Any movement is better than no movement.

So if you can only carve out 15 minutes in your schedule, THAT'S OK! It's amazing how much you can sweat in 15 minutes when you commit to pushing yourself during that time frame.

A study carried out in 2010 investigated the effects of sleep duration on body composition in people that maintain a moderate caloric deficit [1]. The researchers found that sleeping 8 hours per day results in more fat loss and muscle preservation when compared to sleeping only 5 hours per day.

The research found there to be a significant difference between the two groups results as the group that slept for 8 hours lost on average 50% more fat than the group sleeping for just 5 hours.

More recent research by Wang et al. supports that sleep restriction tends to negatively affect muscle preservation and fat loss while on a fat loss diet. [2]

So to conclude, getting an adequate amount of sleep is more importan than you think! Its best to aim for at least 7 hours and no more than 10! -

♳. 25-30% of obese people are metabolically healthy. i.e. their blood sugars, cholesterol, etc., are well regulated. However, when people lose weight quickly through dieting, not only do they gain the weight back, but now they are no longer metabolically healthy. They are at a 150% higher risk of diabetes, heart disease, cancer, etc. A good indicator of unhealthy weight loss is if you lose too much weight from the thigh area (very thin legs). Losing about 5-10% of your total weight in an year is considered healthy and sustainable. .
♴ Losing weight through unsustainable diets, fasting, etc., especially when you are already metabolically weak, i.e. suffering from diabetes, cancer, etc., is that much more harmful. .
♵. Meal frequency is positively linked to healthy weight loss. Regular meals throughout the day lead to better metabolic health and sustainable weight loss in long term. Especially important is to have an early breakfast (before 9 am) and an early lunch (before 2 pm). .
♶. Maintaining gut bacteria diversity is crucial for overall health and weight loss. A meal with a combination of probiotics + prebiotics, along with short chain fatty acids (SCFA), is the ideal meal to increase satiety, reduce inflammation, prevent infections and maintain intestinal integrity. In other words, traditional Indian meals, like dal-chawal- ghee or khichdi with dahi, pickle, etc., are perfectly suited for gut health and healthy weight loss. .

Somnul bebelusului este, fãrã discutie, una dintre cele mai importante preocupari ale proaspetelor mamici 🤱🏻.

Unii bebelusi dorm câte opt ore incontinuu inca de la bun inceput, in timp ce altii se trezesc de nenumarate ori pe noapte. Priya face parte din a doua categorie 🤦🏽‍♀️😁

Am citit doua cãrti din “literatura de specialitate” ca sã vãd dacã e normal sau nu ceea ce se întamplã si dacã pot cumva sã schimb situatia 👶🏻

Am monitorizat-o timp de o saptamana si mi-am facut notite. 📝

🌤 Ora de trezire dimineata depinde foarte mult de ora la care se culca seara.
💤 Priya doarme la intervaluri de 2 ore ziua, indiferent de durata somnului, care depinde de circumstante
🍂 Afarã doarme cel mai bine
🐓 Ne trezim la 7:00 - 7:30
🌙😴 Ne culcãm pentru somnul de noapte la 22:00- 22:30
🌚 Noaptea ne trezim de 3 ori pentru 🍼

🔹 Introducerea unui program regulat de somn
🤱🏻 Am încercat sã o culc la ore fixe în fiecare zi

🔹 Cât mai mult timp afarã - în special seara (înainte de somnul de noapte)

🔹 Încerc sã trec usor de la alaptarea “la cerere” cãtre un orar stabilit (2 ore între mese). Astfel s-a schimbat si durata alaptarii. Priya nu se mai joacã la sân, ci papã cu poftã.

🔹Introducerea rutinei de culcare - activități care se petrec în fiecare seară în aceeași ordine. De exemplu noi facem bãita, ne îmbrãcãm, deconectãm televizorul, mâncãm si apoi ne legãnãm putin în brate!

🔹 Introducerea unui program regulat de somn
🤱🏻 Am încercat sã o culc la ore fixe în fiecare zi

🔹 Cât mai mult timp afarã - în special seara (înainte de somnul de noapte)
⠀
🔹 Încerc sã trec usor de la alaptarea “la cerere” cãtre un orar stabilit (2 ore între mese). Astfel s-a schimbat si durata alaptarii. Priya nu se mai joacã la sân, ci papã cu poftã.

🔹Introducerea rutinei de culcare - activități care se petrec în fiecare seară în aceeași ordine. De exemplu noi facem bãita, ne îmbrãcãm, deconectãm televizorul, mâncãm si apoi ne legãnãm putin în brate!
