This week is about talking and sharing about what I do. Tomorrow I’ve been invited to talk on a large wellbeing and wellness group on Facebook. I also have an impending ‘write up’ deadline for an article that I have been asked to write, for the end of the week 😊 I am so lucky that my work life can include these varied elements too. .

Today has been no exception, sharing with little people at my children’s school, as part of their topic. Explaining the complexities of emotion in the simplest of forms was challenging but gave me something to reflect on. With children that I work with, I rarely go into great depths over the mechanics of ‘feeling’- we just set to work on reflecting on the issues that present, and dealing with them one by one. I guess this experience today, has encouraged me to talk to them more about the mechanics...like I do with adults lots. They’re quite capable of getting it...even though we sometimes as adults think that they won’t have the capacity to - they do. Every experience is so beneficial, it fine tunes thinking and ways about doing things 😊 So I will be modifying my approach a little from now on starting shortly when I see one of my young clients in the next half hour. .

My favourite question from one of them today: “What do you do when you feel sad? Who helps you?... “

Now there’s a question... 💕🙏🏽 .

I’ve always thought meditation was a silly concept and not for me so when Headspace reached out to work with me, I was like “hmm not a good fit”. The past few months though I had the chance to meditate through Headspace and it’s really helped me reduce stress in my life. I love staying busy and having a lot of projects. Some days I’m headsdown working on some product work, some days I’m out shooting brand work, and some days I have to balance it all but sometimes I do get overwhelmed and need to get my head back in the right place. I do most of my work from home, and the other day I was just trying to work through the stress like I usually do, but this time I was able to close my laptop, open up the app, and clear my mind. Before you know it, I was right back on the grind. You guys have to try it out and let me know how it goes! #headspace #ad 💭 | @headspace

The power of music 🎶
Scientists have found that music has a powerful effect on the brain and that music stimulates more parts of the brain than any other human function. It engages the emotional and spiritual part of the human being & can offer comfort and therapy to those who have brain damage, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, autism, depression, anxiety and high blood pressure.
Music can have a profound influence on mood, potentially elevating the positive aspects of mood such as excitement and happiness. It’s proven to reduce depression, fatigue, anger and confusion also improving mental awareness, sleep quality and memory.
So whenever you feel like you need a little lift or to anchor a happy memory go blast that music, dance around your house to your favorite song like no one is watching and feel the music surge through your body, let go and choose to feel happy and uplifted.

All of our perceived problems can seem momentous at first. My children even will wail and cry and throw themselves on the floor mimicking pain like symptoms when they encounter a problem they haven't tackled before... THIS IS OK. AND NORMAL.
But for adults, even when you may feel like doing this same thing, what do you do instead?

Shut down? Give up? Walk away? Ignore & avoid? Call yourself stupid maybe? Go into full blown anxiety? Quit?! Based on how you've perceived PROBLEMS in the past (all the way from childhood really), can really determine your SUCCESS for the future.
To reach success you must be willing to face the problems. Get back up when you've made a mistake. Give yourself grace and compassion when you feel the resistance and fear is growing. Refuse to quit, but maybe move in a new direction to avoid hitting the same wall by tapping into your creativity. And ASK FOR HELP from trusted people who've been where you are or happpen to be an authority on that area you're trying to grow.
Problems only seem huge when your resistance to them is huge. There's always a way to heal, grow, succeed if you're willing to see it that way.
What areas are you growing into today that would've been way too big to comprehend even a year ago? How have you gotten to where you are now? Who can you thank for helping you along the way (hint: remember to thank yourself 😘). Is it too woo when people talk about creating and holding a personal bubble or personal space?? Well, ahem, you already have one. So, might as well work with it. It's simply a matter of how well you're maintaining it... Your bubble acts like a filter and boundary all in one. The easiest exercise I know is to connect your bubble to your breath. Each inhale comes from air outside, and each exhale buffers your bubble. Like holding a soft balloon. Imagine a bubble about 1/2 to a full arms length out, all around you. With your regular breathing, fill it up to the right "pressure" (hint: there is no right pressure - it's up to what feels right to you!) Then? Keep breathing.
Woo? Maybe. Amazing results in a busy bus or high tension meeting? Absolutely.

Another way to vary your overhead press and work on form is from the tall kneeling position. Here you can start to work on keeping that good pelvic position and trunk alignment without have to worry as much about the legs. This will differ from the z-press, however, in that it can become easy to compensate through the low back, so keep that tailbone tucked in and ribcage down!

It's amazing how a little routine change and 5 minutes of quiet meditation/relaxing in the morning can change your outlook --> your day --> your life --> the lives of others.

Been out of action for nearly a week, little man has been teething, I've had cold #2 in as many weeks and generally not being in the right head space to run but dragged us both out today for a walk through the park. Love this time of year with the leaves falling and a need for jumpers and hats. On today’s walk I thought about Thich Nhat Hanh’s analogy of dealing with strong emotions by learning from the trees🌲. Watching a tree in the wind, the top branches appear unstable, they sway, break and leaves fall. Yet despite the disruption of the wind the tree remains rooted and stable in its trunk. It’s during times of strong emotions we can learn to ground ourselves by focusing on our trunk, our abdomen. With deep belly breathing we can try to avoid getting swept away in the strong emotions we may feel up above and feel that bit calmer🌿🍂

I visited one of my favourite local spots at the weekend for a head clearing walk with friends and their dogs. .
We met cows, saw amazing sculptures and enjoyed being outside on such a gorgeous autumnal day.

Do you find that you need constant adventure to stimulate your creativity?
I know I do and I’ve talked about this before, if I don’t have an adventure planned I start to feel down in the dumps and overwhelmed.
I always feel so much better and refreshed after an adventure! Thank god I got over my fear of flying I was bloody miserable and felt so trapped.

Ever get swept up by the constant go go go mentality of life and reality? Sometimes it can be exhausting and draining. Sometimes you just need to take a moment for yourself and breathe deep. It's okay to take a moment for yourself and reflect on what is going on in your life: the good and the bad. Life is a constant work in progress. I recently went on the biggest trip of my entire life to South Korea. I was not mentally prepared. So many thoughts and emotions were running through my head before leaving, because I had not been back since I was adopted to America at three months old and I just did not know how I was going to feel taking everything in: the culture, the food, the people, and my adoption. I had an absolute blast and I am truly blessed for the opportunity, and more importantly I am so proud to be Korean! However, after the trip I still am struggling with decompressing and taking time for myself to understand my full thoughts and feelings from the trip, because it all happened so fast. Especially on my birthday, being in the town I was born in for the first time since my birth, really emotionally messed me up (in a good way). I have been using @headspace for a couple weeks now, both in the morning and at night, and I have really been grateful to have found an app that lets me focus on my mental clarity when I need it the most. Especially as the seasons are changing, adapting to change can be tough. The Headspace app has helped me come back to reality by helping me focus on my mental state in a clear minded way, after experiencing such an emotional trip. When you sleep alone. When it’s cold NHS toast... and when she wraps her fingers around yours. When he runs to your ward for a cuddle. The world looks different when my mind is at peace ✌🏼🌿 #ad Today I’m reflecting on my experience using @headspace for the last few months during a super hectic time in my career. I know I shared when I started this journey that a) I’m not really one for rituals or set routines and b) I had some doubts about whether I’d be able to stick to using the app or if it would connect for me. I’m really not exaggerating when I say that Headspace went so far above and beyond my expectations - it’s helped my stress management, my mental clarity, my sleep, and my general outlook on life. 〰️
I’m a creative, and also a bit of a perfectionist, so I have a LOT of ideas and projects swirling around in my head at most times. And, in typical creative fashion, I usually let those ideas pile up in my mind just like I let the stack of dirty paintbrushes and half-full sketchbooks pile up on my desk. (I cannot express how impractical this mental clutter is when you work 2 creative jobs.) While I expected Headspace to address some of my feelings of stress and anxiety, I didn’t know that it would also help me declutter some of that mental mess, which was such a big contributor to my stress levels. It’s amazing how much joy and beauty you miss in life when your mind is inundated with to-dos, deadlines, and brainstorms. Taking a few minutes out of my day for a Headspace meditation cleared that messy “desk” in my head and allowed space for me to notice the little things, like how good fresh laundry smells on a damp breeze, or the genuine music of a friend’s laughter at a good joke. Finding small moments in my day to step aside, open the app, and recenter my mind was the key to making meditation work for me. Setting ritualistic routines or trying to go through a rigid process was not my cup of tea, and Headspace was right there in my pocket, offering me the flexibility to utilize meditation in a way that would benefit me and my unique personality.
