Whether your goal is to build muscle, lose weight, or tighten up in all the right places, choosing the right weight for your exercises is a major key for strength training.
⁣⁣⁣⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As a beginner this can be very daunting and can add to the stress of starting your health & fitness journey. But fear not, I’m here to help answer this question once and for all.
⁣⁣⁣⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In order to achieve great results it is important to continually challenge yourself. This means choosing a weight that is heavy enough to force your muscles to adapt grow stronger.
⁣⁣⁣⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There are 3 important factors to take into consider when selecting the right weight:
▪️ Complete the prescribed number of repetitions
▪️ Maintain good form throughout the set
▪️ Listen to your body
⁣⁣⁣⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The weight that you select should make you work hard for the last 2 or 3 reps. It should be a struggle to compete these last few reps while maintaining good form - something I cannot stress enough. This means no jerking, excessive body momentum, or bringing other muscle groups into the exercise (e.g. using your back and legs to perform a bicep curl).
⁣⁣⁣⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you find that you are unable to compete all repetitions, or if your form becomes sloppy, then you have two options:
1. Reduce the weight set to compete all the repetitions.
2. Perform less reps for the next set (or sets).
⁣⁣⁣⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Both options are perfectly fine as long as you are challenging your body, however I would recommend lowering the weight and performing all reps with good form before increasing the weight again. ⁣⁣⁣⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Listening to your body should not be understated either. If your feel pain in your joints or strained muscles while performing an exercise, this could indicate the weight is too heavy and your form is breaking down.

Just a lil’ REAL LIFE update to say that the past 4 days have been spent eating a f*ck tonne of pizza, chocolate and pasta and consuming far too much gin and Prosecco and eating nothing remotely healthy 😇 and I have enjoyed everrrrrry second!

I often used to find it difficult to find the balance between listening to my body and getting to the gym but now I literally eat and drink what I want, when I want (with some restrictions😉) and it’s done me the world of good. Challenging my misconceptions about what ‘healthy eating’ and ‘exercise’ really meant has also changed my mindset completely, @shreddy has helped me with this MASSIVELY! ♥️ -

Being realistic, December is going to be full of snacks, rest and alcohol and I wouldn’t have it any other way! (Hopefully it all goes to my glutes🤞🏽) -

Ever since I moved and changed gym locations, I’ve been completely neglecting my hammies/glutes bc I’m honestly just too lazy to drive to the other location soo instead I’ve been doing short but killer little workouts like this one after bootcamp class until I get my sh*t together and stop making excuses 🤷🏻‍♀️
Here’s the full workout 🍑🔥:
1) Weighted glute bridges with band until failure. Hold/squeeze at the top for as long as you can and then drop the weight. Repeat without the weight and just the band. Do this 3-4 times.
2) Banded hip abduction until failure with a hold at the end. Repeat 3-4 times.
3) Cable machine banded squats drop set. Start at the heaviest weight possible until failure. Drop the weight and repeat for 3-4 sets.
4) Cable machine banded deadlift drop set. Start at the heaviest weight possible until failure. Drop the weight and repeat for 3-4 sets.
5) Single leg deadlift drop set. Start at the heaviest weight possible until failure. Drop the weight and repeat for 3-4 sets. Don’t switch legs in between sets.
6/7/8) Straight leg kick back, butt kick and cable abductors. I usually keep it pretty light and focus on higher reps and also squeezing and not swinging. I do 25 reps of each for 2-3 sets with no rest in between and then switch legs. These burn sooo good if you can’t tell from my facial expressions 😅

Get the work done get uncomfortable, TRY, TRY AND TRY AGAIN. And don't ever be afraid. There's no room for fear in growth no room for laziness either. Eat less move more. Show up to the gym everyday, eat things that nourish you and put in the work.

There aint no quick fixes This was not a result of some detox diet, or juice diet or some fat burners but an aftermath of being consistent with your diet and pushing your limit in the gym everyday.
Being fit is not about what you do in the gym its more about what happens when you not in the gym. Your meal frequency, calories intake, macro nutrients everything needs to be on point to create the perfect environment for your body to change.

It is not easy, there may be times when you would doubt yourself and not willing to work but it is those days where you have to dig deep inside you and push that much harder.

These pics are approximately 3 months apart. Dropped from 64kg to 57 kg. Pbf from 33.4 to 23.7 currently. Gained muscle mass and increased metabolism.
Its not about only the scale but being overall healthy.

Stop judging how you feel, by how you look sitting down! 💯

I see this all the time.... 👇

Someone is sitting down, looking at their body, trying to make “rolls” then grabbing their “rolls” saying they need to lose weight. 😫😡

Fact of the matter is, everyone has rolls when they are sitting down! This is completely normal! 💯

I’ll be honest with you, when I sit down I sometimes get a bit disheartened, but I know it is normal and I can look past it! 🙏

This is a very dangerous road to go down and can lead to severe body image issues and body dysmorphia. 👎

Like I always say, find the things about you that you are happy with! Acknowledge your accomplishments and hard work. 🔥

Stop with the negative self talk and pointing out your defects and flaws! Everyone has them! 💯

It is up to us to either let them distract us and bring us down, or use them as fuel to continue pushing and putting in the hard work! 🙌🔥

Your most honest physique is when you are standing up anyway! Your physique when you are sitting will always not look as good, so why do you let this get to your head, just stand up!! 🙌👍

Anyways, have an amazing week and crush those goals! The holiday season is right around the corner! 🎄👌
