Tried my hand at halted deadlifts on Friday. Turns out these are pretty fuckin hard 😅 but I’ll be keeping them in the mix for a while.

Worked up to a top set of 57.5kg for 5! I find it really hard to push myself during my squat sessions and would rather stick to a comfortable weight for 3 months and then wonder why I haven’t gotten any stronger 🤡 This is definitely progress!!

Today i did a thing!! Finished with 250lbs x 4 for a pretty cool rep PR on my last set. Despite not feeling my best physically or mentally this weekend, I’m proud I was able to still push thru and achieve this🙂
and an amrap on bench of 121lbs for 7 @ rpe 9 after some werkin sets

Triggers and idiosyncrasies. -
What’s the difference? Triggers are sensations, actions, pictures, words, you name it that bring up a past memory. Often a traumatic memory such as addiction or abuse. People with panic disorders, anxiety disorders , PSTD, and many other disorders often have triggers. Not everyone knows all of their triggers. Or even how to deal with them. In my experience, being triggered often sets my whole day off or causes me not to think clearly. Triggers can be dangerous if you don’t work of being comfortable with them. Idiosyncrasies on the other hand are unusual ways of thoughts or behaviors in individuals. An example of this could be getting annoyed at a certain sounds such as tapping on glass. This difference is important to remember when discussing a moment in time. Too often we use the word trigger way to much to describe things such as idiosyncrasies or just certain quirks. Third time is a charm; weighed in at 56.42 kgs (124.3 lbs) and got 1st place 🥇in my weight class. Went 7 out of 9. 🤦🏻‍♀️
💥 Last squat attempt 102.5 kgs/ 225.9 lbs (failed my 2nd squat attempt on depth so we kept the same weight)
💥 Second bench attempt 62.5 kgs/ 137.7 lbs (failed my last attempt at 70 kgs/ 154.3 lbs)

Some of you have been inquiring about my health. I’ve been having MS type symptoms for the past few months.. I have a 2nd MRI scheduled and an appointment with  neurologist. 100lb TNG bench 5x7. This is set 5. 
Squats have been a disappointment. I feel like I’ve got it and then I don’t got it. Ugh. BUT, bench and deadlifts feel really strong so I’m going to keep riding that wave.

I have been working for 4 months consistently on my bench! I told myself July 20th will be the day I put up 135! And it happened and I’m SO PROUD OF MYSELF! The journey to big numbers is so fun and exciting, and it’s only the beginning! Even though some days I feel like I don’t wanna move, I just tell myself “sometimes we all gotta do things we don’t wanna do, but it’s those people who do who are the most successful” and I get my ass up (with a ton of complaining) and I do it and I KILL it! There’s nothing in this world that can stop me from achieving something if I have my mind set on it! Thanks to all of you who continue to support me and my gym life ♥️#gwpl #benchgains

It's time for our monthly what people think is hard/what is actually hard post!

For anyone who lifts seriously it's a passion if not an obsession. That isn't the struggle. Meal prep....when you eat 6 times a day... Meal prep is the struggle.

This week's first batch: chickpea lentil pasta with shrimp, eggplant, and red pepper. Add a touch of Parm and red pepper flakes, swirl of olive oil...boom.

It's officially deload time 😕. I always wondered what needing a deload felt like. I now know 🤦🏾‍♀️. There are a lot of factors that made today's lifts super shitty - Aunt Flo, work stress, lack of sleep, really poor eating prep but it ultimately adds up to a needed reset.

Programming called for Anderson 6x6 and a top set of rack pull 1x5. We had to cut squats to 6x3 nearly 35-70# less than I have done before and rack pulls nearly 25# less with crappy lockouts. One thing that didn't change was the amount of effort. It was definitely Max Effort even if it the effort was greater than the result 🤷🏾‍♀️. You win or you learn. Today I learned.

Excuse me while I crawl out of the gym. This max effort squat workout was a doozy. Worked up to and failed out at 255# bar weight on the Duffalo bar with 75# in chains (40# unloaded at the bottom), so knocked it back to 225# bar weight. Got two solid singles, but still struggled with depth today. The frustrating thing is that it's never my legs that give out. It's always my back/core and my mind. I either tip forward or get scared of not being able to pop it out of hole or both. Poo. Anyways, after much kvetching and swirling about technique (and many reminders that I'm still flirting with my max, even without knee wraps...OK, I'll shut up and be happy) I buried the final backoff set. Felt good to bring it home, and  promptly proceed to destroy my low back and hamstrings. Adaptation takes time, but as always, we building 💪🏼 Shout out to the crew for bringing great energy even in 100 degree temps: @bostonstrengthandpower  @m_galante40  @coachrondrago  @robert.popp @coachbock55 @kbock823 @sarah02483  @aacorn10 @dyel_bruh @xmissjessica @steven_charles .

It’s been a weird mental health weekend and I definitely needed some barbell therapy this morning.
I am so grateful to have the group of friends that I do; a friend that will drive three hours just to cheer you up, a friend that brings ten varieties of gummies to the gym to make sure you don’t get a sugar low, a friend that would do anything to put themselves in your shoes and help you through the funk. I’ve said this a million times so here’s a million and one: surround yourself with people who lift you up, who genuinely care for you and are there no matter the time of day.
Find. Your. People. And hold them close.
Unrelated to the sap, here’s 205 5x3 for what I thought were pause reps at the time, turns out they were just really slow squats 🤷‍♀️ Ya win some and ya lose some 😂

9/9 for the first time, PRd on everything and qualified for nationals. Hit that 2x body weight squat! 382.5kg/844lb total, 45lb total PR. Weighed in at 68.24/150lbs 
There was so much build up to this meet. I dropped out of a meet in February due to an injury and I was unable to deadlift for 2-3 months at the beginning of this year and squats started off light. I’m so thankful it wasn’t anything serious and I healed fast. But deadlifts continued to be a mental battle. I was nervous to start lifting anything heavy but I did it fam! .

Winner in my weight class, overall female winner on ipf points, increased my squat record & increased my total record. Went for the deadlift record but just wasn't there today.

I've had a great day, totally overwhelmed I won the overall trophy was a total surprise!! Big girls can win trophies 💪

I went into this meet so confident in my training and my abilities so I can’t help but be a little disappointed in how things finished. My main goal today was to qualify for nationals, that didn’t happen, so that just means next meet I’ll have to show up when it’s time.

Insane morning workout fueled by iced coffee, the heavy tunes of Pantera, Mastadon, and a little gangsta rap to keep it weird. 🤘🎧🤘

•Front Squats up to 140#, then 5x5 downsets at 95#. SS w/ AB Wheel ..
•Close Grip Bench up to 100#, 5x5 downsets at 70#, all paused. SS w/Band PullAparts ..
•all remaining work divided into 3 Giant Circuits, w/ 5 rounds each: .
Good Mornings, Rows, more ab wheel, Rolling Tri Press, Pull-ups, Dips, Walking Lunges, more ab wheel, Laterals, Shrugs, Curls,.. and more ab wheel. 😂 Haha Yeah, I broke my record on the ab wheel by 40 with *150* today. . Add in a little stairs and some stretching at the end and my finish time was 3.5 hrs. 💀 😅

And then I got to go see Ms. Jennifer who gave me the meanest deep tissue massage and had me come out looking like another state of mind 😂😅🤪 Whooo! What a Day.

The gym is my safe haven. Some days I’ll walk into the gym in a bad mood from work or I’m just not having the best of days.. but I’ll almost always walk out feeling waaaay better than I did before going in. First meet as a 59 & as a master. Not 100% satisfied with how today went but isn’t that how it always is. Went 5/6 (missing my 2nd snatch) with 100% white lights ⚪️⚪️⚪️ and felt like I left a lot in the tank after the 3rd attempts. Happy I was able to put the effort in to win my weight class. 
This puts me 12weeks out from @usapowerlifting Nationals, plan is to go back to my normal @fiftybarbell PL program and to continue to WL 1 day a week. I have definitely been bit by the weightlifting bug again. 
Big thanks to Alex, Amanda Lynn, and of course @jaredenderton for helping me in the back room.

Somebody asked me on my Instagram story my reasons for working out? Why do I lift? 
And I started to think about it....and why in particular do I gravitate towards strength sports.
The one thing I could pin point was the need to feel “stronger”, “bigger”, “capable”, “empowered”
From the ages of 13 to 16 I was in an emotionally, sexually & physically abusive relationship. It also set me up for a string of abuse and dysfunctional relationships as an adult. I’m 5ft tall and back then I was around 100lbs soaking wet. 
I no longer wanted to feel helpless or weak or small.
In the process of revealing a small tidbit of my story an overwhelming amount of women reached out to me with similar stories. 
They said how brave I was to share my story but why should we feel embarrassed & ashamed. The person that should feel embarrassed and ashamed is my abuser, not me. 
So now I lift to feel not just physically stronger but mentally & emotionally stronger.
