Who ever said fit girls can’t eat pasta?
.
Ladies, I’m sorry but, as a half Italian girl from New York, there is no way I’m giving up pasta. .
I was craving some tonight BUT I also wanted it to be nutritious & portioned. So, what I did was:
.
•Cooked a single serving of red lentil pasta from @traderjoes .
•Sautéed some frozen spinach with 2 tbsp of feta
.
•added 1/2 cup of natural tomato sauce to spinach and 4oz of cooked lean ground turkey. .
That’s seriously it. This is a great loop hole to fulfilling a craving while being mindful of your health. And, I’m not saying you need to be counting calories per say, but this meal is only a little over 400 cal, which is a great sweet spot for dinner. It’s really just about getting your vital nutrients, paying attention to serving size, and being mindful of the ingredients in your food items! .

Muscle Monday! -

Building muscle is a slower process than losing fat. -

But that varies depending on the training age of the person trying to gain muscle. The newer the person is to training the more quickly they can put on muscle. The longer a person has been training the harder it is. -

With the Fat Club program here in Santa Barbara (check out @FCVitality) we have routinely seen people new, or returning from a long break, put on 4-6 pounds of muscle in only 8 weeks, as measured by DEXA scan. That’s pretty incredible progress. -

Compare that with the average of just over 15 pounds of fat lost in the same time frame. We have had tons of people lose 20+lbs (up to 44lbs for the record!) in 8 weeks. So clearly building muscle is a slower process. -

Building muscle is also highly dependent on the genetics of each individual. Some people just have a much easier time putting on muscle than others. I’m sure that’s pretty intuitive. -

Beginners can potentially gain 15-30 pounds in their first year. That’s if things are done right with dedication to the training and diet. -

People who have been training for 2-3 years can potentially gain 10-15 pounds of muscle. -

And people who have been consistently training with intent for over 3 years high be able to eke out 3-6 pounds in a year. -

These numbers are for men, but women could expect to see numbers roughly half of these listed above. -

Even at the highest rates here that’s just about half a pound a week, where in fat loss we are shooting for 2-4 pounds lost for beginners. -

So if muscle gain is your focus, be patient. Train hard. And make sure your diet reflects that goal.

It’s been a crazy past couple of weeks. With regular work hours, events on the weekend, and getting some personal stuff in line, it’s been go go go. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
With everything that’s been going on, I’ve been tired, slacking on my calorie intake, not giving it my all in the gym, and trying to take advantage of the relaxation time I’ve had.

Looking forward to taking this week by the horn’s, getting back on track with everything and crushing my goals again!

Since everyone seemed to enjoy the Bosch Clean variations I posted a few weeks back here’s a Bosch Snatch Variation. This is an ADVANCED movement to work on unilateral force production, shoulder stability, trunk strength, and ankle stability. This exercise can help one jump higher, run harder and faster, and can make your first step more explosive.

Since everyone seemed to enjoy the Bosch Clean variations I posted a few weeks back here’s a Bosch Snatch Variation. Yup, it breaks sometimes: there have been various dislocated body parts, muscular and joint degradation, spinal spasms and things that just seem to stop working altogether time to time. It has gotten sick, out of balance and has felt very weak, very incapable. ⁠⠀
It's certainly not "perfect" in accordance with society and media's still warped beauty standards, flaws and scars and shapes that are all mine (will save the long list of negative commentary about what's been said against this body over the years for another time!)⁠⠀
⁠⠀
But I own it, it is mine, I love it and I respect it by trying to do the best job I can to keep it moving - because it keeps ME going, and in times past it has done some rather ridiculously amazing things (and anticipate that it will again) and it is literally, the only one I have.⁠⠀

So, mebbeh, just for a moment, extend a bit of gratitude for the bits of your body you are thankful for and what it gives you in this life. ⁠⠀

Wall Drives are one of my favorite exercises for someone to properly learn basic sprint mechanics so I’ve been transiting them to Sled Drives were I use a 3 step march with a slight pause to transition to the next 3. The Sled is consistently moving and helps the athlete maintain good body control. Your head, shoulders, hips, knees, shins, and ankles should all form a line that's angled about 45 degrees from the ground. This position is the ideal form to propel yourself forward and allow your muscles to exert maximum power.

💡 These are some examples that can help you coach/improve/fix the Single Leg RDL (1L-RDL)

The dowel should keep 3 points contact (head, between shoulder blades, sacrum) throughout the movement (hint: pay attention how much hip flexion / ROM is available).

2️⃣ Hip Hinge to 1L-RDL: if you or your athlete is able to hip hinge correctly (see # 1), then just shift the weight to 1 leg, and slow and controlled extend the opposite leg behind until it matches the angle of the hips and torso. Ensure this can be done efficiently on both sides. For best results go barefoot 👣 (hint: better proprioception and engagement of the entire kinetic chain).

3️⃣ Supported 1L-RDL: if you or your athlete struggles with #2, practice the movement by holding onto something. The goal is to increase stability, so there can be more emphasis on the posture and the pattern.
