Yes I do!! Listen... exercise is vital! The fiber of your body functions better with activity! Activity can vary per individual because everybody needs something different.
Here are a few things to consider while you are trying to build a Fitness routine:

1. What are my goals?
Without goals it’s just a dream.
2. What do I enjoy to do?
If you are trying to do something you hate, you will absolutely find trouble sticking with it.
3. Can I do this on my own or do I need help to do it right?
Asking for help is not bad. Doing it right the first time will allow you to see better results faster!

Of course I’m here to help, but if I’m not your answer talk to somebody. The more you know and put yourself out there the faster you will stop doubting your abilities and adding negativity to your life.

Let’s find the enjoyment in moving and inspire others to live their best life!

One of the best exercises for core conditioning. It can be progressed and regressed in many different variations, and come with a VARIETY of benefits. ⁣⁣
1. Strengthens Your Core Safely: It trains your inner core muscles that lay the foundation for all of your movements. Plus they help develop that 6 pack🥳⁣⁣
2. Better Posture: Good posture keeps your bones in alignment, promotes proper organ positioning(good for digestion), and helps lengthen you out(which helps appear thinner...and taller). Idk about y’all but if I can look 3 inches taller then I get to join the Stallions😛⁣⁣
3. Reduce Back Pain: Planks train the muscles of your abdomen to activate so they support your posture and share in the burden of holding you upright; your back muscles no longer have to do all the work. Whole time you’re out here thinking you just have chronic back pain and boom turns out you just have a weak core☝🏾⁣⁣
4. Better Movement and Coordination: Planking and its variations help train your body to use your abs for stabilization. Your day to day functions improve tremendously and with a stronger core your body will now function as a unit instead of in individual parts. Whether you’ve been through labour yourself or not we are often not educated on what to expect our body to go through and as trainers working with mums our own experience may have been a blur or we may not have had babies yet (or choose to ever).

All of the above is absolutely OK, however I often get asked questions about childbirth in our courses so we have added more of this to Safe Return to Exercise and I thought I’d shoot a little video for you today.

In this video I am talking just about a vaginal delivery.

It’s insane that preseason was my LEAST favorite part of playing basketball every single year for 15+ years. & now I’m doing the workouts and ON PURPOSE 😂 clearly I played zero defense with these rusty slides

I miss it, there’s no greater shape than being in sports shape and once you know, you remember how it feels forever!!!

Change up your workouts! Make it challenging! Grab some cones and finish work this 3 way killer today! Right/ left shuffle suicide, & back pedal suicide to finish up leg day! You don’t need the resistance bands to feel an amazing burn! 4 sets!

Within this year James has made huge positive changes to his lifestyle - he has drastically improved his strength and aerobic fitness & is much more mobile. As well as this, James’ posture has gotten much better & as you can see from the picture, he has lost a good amount of weight 💪🏻 Outside of the gym, James tracks his daily steps & has made sustainable changes to his diet 🥦
Our sessions always include:
- Mobility Work 🧘‍♂️ - Strength Training 💪🏻
- Core & Glute Variations 🔥 - & a broad range of cardio 🏃‍♂️ to keep the sessions fresh & enjoyable 🥳

A point to take from this post, always look at the long term benefits & try to have patience with your journey. As you can see from my feed and lack of stories, I haven’t been active on IG. I am more active on Facebook (I know - so 2014 😂) This is not my favorite place to be (anyone else think it’s “loud” here?) I don’t know that I’ve given it a fair shot to get my message out there. As I tell clients, it can be important to be willing to experiment... try something consistently for at least a couple of weeks and then make an informed decision to keep going or make changes or a little of both. .

So here’s to posting daily (feed or story) for two weeks! .

What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as who you’ve become by achieving your goals.. Less than a week away from show day & I’m all in my feelings about it. Honestly? I feel like I’ve learned more about myself through this journey of prep than I have ever before. I somehow had to regain a self confidence & acceptance that was once stripped from me in a toxic relationship.. I was broken down daily; lied to, verbally abused, daily accusations, & in this time frame I completely lost who I was, Courtney. I was seriously living for someone else rather than myself & in my opinion, there is nothing worse.. I actually forgot about my purpose to the point where I felt I had none.
Finding my true self once again has always been a mission of mine but one I had no idea how I’d be able to do. how do I build myself back up from the damaged Insecure person I became? When I dedicated myself to fitness, I had no idea what I was in for but I knew one thing.. I told myself from the very start that I am doing this for ME.. & that right there changed the game!!!! Health and fitness play the role as my outlet, my escape. It’s the one thing that nobody can take away from me and that I have complete control over. And in return? I look better and better each day! I FEEL amazing on the inside and out knowing that I DID THIS. I’ve developed a confidence within myself the past almost two years than I have ever had once before! The mentality that I’ve adapted to due to this lifestyle is unbreakable. Because this is all ME!
There will always be room for improvement, of course. But if you ask me, that’s the GLORY of it. You can have unlimited goals as your body & mind change over the course therefore I ask myself every morning, How can I be better than I was yesterday? •

Woman lifting weights ... Will I get bulky? I don't want to have a ‘manly’ body! It intimidates me!

Increasing and maintaining adequate muscle mass is one of the best ways to keep body fat at the desired amount and to improve overall fitness. Resistance exercise such as lifting weights is the best way to build muscle mass which will provide the shapely physique many women want. Still, the number of women who actually participate in any formal or consistent weight training workout is extremely low.

So how can we change this? As a woman I can tell you of some of the many benefits I have experienced since starting a dedicated program.

1⃣ More muscle means more body fat used as fuel!
I have seen many positive changes in my body composition over the last 6 months. When strength training regularly your body remains in the fat burning mode long after you have left the gym - this is known as Excess Post-exercise Oxygen Consumption (EPOC) effect.
This is not the case when you choose to exercise low-intensity cardiovascular/aerobic type training.

2⃣ Weight training not only strengthens muscles but also increases bone density. This reduces the risk of fractures and broken bones. It also builds stronger connective tissues and increases joint stability which, as a result, helps prevent injury.

Weight lighting can also increase spinal bone density and create a strong and healthy spine. This, coupled with an adequate amount of dietary calcium, can be a women’s best defence against osteoporosis.

Resistance training can also help with correcting bad posture, and building a strong back and core will also help prevent any lower back pain.

3️⃣ Probably the most valuable benefit to me personally has been my boost in confidence. Exercise releases endorphins which improve your mood, prevent pain, and fight depression.

Women who strength train commonly report feeling more confident and capable as a result of their training.

Here is the trick focus on mind-body connection and on squeezing your shoulder muscles (deltoids). I love to do this exercise seated because it is more challenging and you don’t need to use a lot of weight to feel it, bonus 💪💪. Choose a weight that is relatively light where you can perform 10-15 repetitions, do three sets. Repeat 2-3 times a week.

A personal Trainer is not only there to help you achieve the right kind of physical goals, you can also get help with other aspects of your personal fitness that many people fail to consider. For instance, sometimes a personal trainer can give you guidance about nutrition and healthy eating habits. Others often act as de facto mentors or emotional support advocates, especially as time goes on and you and your personal trainer really get to know one another and build a deep personal relationship based on your mutual investment in your personal fitness success.

It's Spring and with that comes all the bikini body and get ready for Summer fitness campaigns.⁣

This bugs me because we should be focusing on looking after ourselves and our health and fitness year around. ⁣

I remember when I was first working as a PT in a gym and we ran 12 week challenges, many of the ladies got great results but once the challenge was finished they went back to their old habits and all their great results disappeared.⁣

The other thing I found is that many of the challenge type programs offer rapid weight loss from really restricting what you eat. This type of dieting is not sustainable long term and so once you return to your normal eating again you find that the weight just goes back on along with a few extra kgs.⁣

It also sets many ladies up to feel like a failure because they find it really hard to stick to restricted diets and/or the amount of exercise expected during a challenge. ⁣

So what happens, they give up and then beat themselves up for not being able to reach their goals, they feel like they have let themselves down as well as others who have supported them with their goals.⁣

The other thing that I know from experience is that when you are in your 50's or even 60's you need an individually tailored exercise program that takes into account how your body responds to exercise, your stress levels, your sleep and your health in general. It certainly should not be a one size fits all approach.⁣

So rather than looking for short term quick fixes, focus on a sustainable exercise and healthy eating program designed especially for you, that allows you to enjoy the experience rather than feeling like a failure.⁣

MOTIVATION (or lack there of)

In the spirit of #theguiltyfeminist I’m a PT but, I haven’t exercised in over a week.
I’ve moved my body, yes, I’ve walked everywhere, taken the stairs, but I haven’t exercised in about 10 days. Why? Because I was busy, and when I wasn’t, I didn’t want to.
I chose to exercise because I love the way it makes me feel and I enjoy it while I’m doing it. I don’t exercise to make my body look different, so taking a week or two off once in a while is a drop in the ocean compared to the lifetime of exercise I’ll be doing.
If we shift our mindset towards one of health first, person first body second, exercising for joy not for punishment, taking rest becomes easier and more enjoyable.
Today, I’ve woken up excited to work out, and I haven’t felt like that in a while. My mind and body feel rested and I have the energy to train well.
Moral of the story: don’t panic if motivation isn’t there, don’t stress taking time out of the gym. It will be there forever, those precious days off won’t. *excuse the unrelated picture of pancakes, as the caption suggests, I haven’t been in the gym to take any photos!! #restday #rest #motivation #motivationmondy #gym #gymmotivation

*Confession* I have been drinking too much alcohol lately and as a result my body is feeling extremely inflamed and my brain is feeling slow, unmotivated and anxious. Instead of beating myself up about it and self sabotaging, THIS is what I do to get straight back into gear. I like alcohol, and I like socialising, but the mental game that comes with is is a hard one. NO you will not rewind months of hard work in one drinking session. BUT everything in moderation. If you are training everyday and then drinking every fri/sat night, you need to have realistic expectations on how this may affect your health goals. I am going to have the next 5 weeks alcohol free as a bit of a reset and hopefully she’s some of the kilos I have gained from the wedding/honeymoon/social events.. Who’s with me??? 🙋🏼‍♀️

• GYM GOALS • Of course I do have my own goals I want to smash 🔥

In the fitness industry you see and hear a lot of goals that are quite crazy and unrealistic. And yes, I also always strive for THE BEST 🥇
.
‼️ But you want to know the truth? Having a shredded body is NOT maintainable unless you want to feel out of energy, not happy and very slow ✋🏻
.
💥I’VE EXPERIENCED IT ALL
.
Later today I will show you a photo in my story from that time I got really ‘shredded’ 👙 Side note: I was NOT 🚫 happy at all. Walking felt heavy, biking felt impossible, I was grumpy at not even by far MY BEST SELF 👱🏻‍♀️
.
🤷🏼‍♀️The reason I tell you this?
.
To show - and tell you - that goals don’t have to be too crazy to let you feel better and see progress 🎉
.
⚡️In the end those ‘small steps’ aka small goals are the big ones in the end. As long as you stay consistent with it and NOT give up 💁🏼‍♀️

💪🏻 MY CURRENT FITNESS GOAL?
.
.
To keep the shape I have at the moment - yes, this is my current physique 👆🏻- and to gain more strength 💥 I love seeing muscles on a female body. So that’s what I’m aiming for at the moment 🙋🏼‍♀️

.
😏 NO LIFE CHANGING GOAL, but it’s maintainable and very realistic 🙏🏻
.
.
🏋🏼‍♀️ Because in between working long days and training at the gym - life also happens 💛 So having time for friends and family is also super (!) important to me.

I would apologize for 2 leg day posts in a row but I know you guys love leg days sooo sorry not sorry. 🤓😜✌🏽🍑⁣

I have been focussing leg days on high intensity and not too heavy / not all that many compound lifts because I am pretty happy with the muscle size! ⁣

Just because you are trying to lean out doesn’t mean you can stop training isolates muscle groups, the secret is to do both very high intensity and resistance/ weight training to maintain a strong body.💪🏽⁣

I literally am loving my workouts lately, which means new online challenge soon?? 😜🤙🏽😁⁣

• WEEKEND WARRIOR • Girls, I dare you to workout 1 day this weekend. Are you with me? 😌

👉🏻 What I notice a lot is that the ‘weekend’ is a good excuse to indulge on food and do no workouts 🏋🏼‍♀️
.
💕 Of course you need to enjoy the weekend with some nice food and friends, but just don’t go ‘all out’ 🥂 There’s a middle ground too.
.
I know that’s a fine line, but remember: if you bake a cake for example 👩🏼‍🍳 - what I did this morning 🙌🏻 - you eat a few pieces until you feel satisfied.
.
🤪 Never eat until you are too full or feel you’re stomach is going to explode. That’s not a comfortable feeling at all - and also not satisfying 🚫
.
👅 After you had your ‘fair share’ of cake you can either give the other pieces away OR you can put it in the freezer and eat it later again 🧁
.
.
🍩 What I notice myself is that when I eat more sugary food; I love to train and release all the energy 🔥 First of all: because I’m not used to that amount of sugar 🙆🏼‍♀️ and second of all: my mind stays in the game.
.
.
⚡️TRY TO KEEP YOUR DAILY ROUTINE ALIVE DURING THE WEEKEND 💪🏻
.
.
💁🏼‍♀️The chances you will not go ALL OUT during the weekend are reduced if you try to keep your ‘daily’ habits alive 👌🏻

🤘🏻So no excuses: Saturday and Sunday are also perfect days to WORKOUT 😏 Who’s with me?

Vacation is officially O V E R and I feel so rejuvenated and ready to take on the next half of this year! I’ve had a tough time this year, but a week away by the water has recharged me. Hit some cardio and legs today and pretty sure I’m already sore. 😅⁣

But fr it reminds me of how grateful I am for this lifestyle and the ability to push myself.⁣

Happy friiiiiyay, definitely was very skeptical if I was going to get a workout in today but then this baby popped in my head and I couldn’t resist. 😜🤷🏻‍♀️🔥⁣

And as always I felt sooo much better after. I do have to admit I am pretty sore from yesterday’s leg day (check last post) so kept all leg movement out of this one. 😅🏃🏻‍♀️⁣

I also just want to take a quick moment to say thank you to everyone that likes , comments and saves these posts! That is what makes it possible for me to keep sharing and getting informative content out! ⁣
