A great healthy protein filled snack for the summer.

I tried @daily_healthy_recipes_ Greek yogurt recipe.

The one on the left is their recipe (33 grams of protein and 180 calories)

The one on the right I added 2 scoops of vanilla protein
(28 grams of protein per scoop)

So 89 grams of protein and 408 calories. Each service about 4. 
So 22 grams of protein and 102 calories for the added protein one.

Or 8 grams of protein and 40 calories.

I think there's perhaps a dogma in the industry that you need to grind and hustle to get your favoured body composition and, whilst I agree there is probably going to need to be some degree of sacrifice at certain points, being impatient means you could be digging yourself into a big fat fatigue hole by not taking some time off.

The hardest part about knowing when to stop is that you can't really quantify it and I do feel it is something you get better at developing over time, knowing when to take a break and knowing when to continue pushing on.

If you find yourself in a position whereby you are regularly #bingeeating, getting anxious about going out for food or feel guilty for eating/drinking certain things then you've probably gone too far and need to spend some time transitioning away from the rigidity of dieting/tracking.

As your #psychology (the way you think) towards these things is just as important as your #physiology (the way you look)

 I'm not going to pretend I'm some sort of disordered eating expert (I'm most definitely not) but I do feel some people are self-sabotaging by not respecting the fact that every now and then, you need a BREAK

When we went to the Aus Fitness Show last weekend I had a body scan done, turns out I'd dropped 11% body fat in 8 weeks! It's summer here and still strawberry season, so I savour it to the fullest 🍓😍 I was looking for some summer salads inspirations and found the one 👆🏼 It's a green salad with strawberries and ricotta and it's so simple and delicious 🤗 I can't get enough of it. 
Ingredients (for 1 person): 150g strawberries
75g ricotta cheese
a handful of corn salad or spinach
a few roasted almonds
Honey-ginger vinegar sauce:
1tsp honey
1tsp olive oil
2tbsp lemon juice
a pinch of minced fresh ginger
Mix all together and enjoy 😌🌿 A whole plate is only 318 calories with 10P, 21C and 21F.  It's so good!! 🤩 Try it and believe me, you're not gonna regret.

Some people select the food they eat based on a perception of healthy or unhealthy with little regard for caloric value. Eating well for overall health and fat loss is a two part system in that quality and quantity go hand in hand, the art of weight loss will always boil down to calories in vs calories out. If you want to lose weight you need to calorically be consuming less energy than expenditure. So on a fat loss journey it's necessary to acknowledge the value of your food choices as it will be the driver in whether you lose or gain weight.
Be conscious and aware of the caloric and macronutrient value of food and when eating particular foods be aware of what you've had and what you're going to have for the rest of the day. There will always be lower calorie alternatives. Take the above example for instance, a couple small changes in product choice have changed the caloric density significantly between each meal. Two examples breaking the fast aka breakfast + starting the day with nutrient dense options on hand. Both take into account time and life demands.

The smoothie bowl is polyphenol dense with a variety of frozen berries, seeds and nuts with protein powder with coconut milk and filtered H20.
Blitzed all together and ready in under 5 minutes.

The egg muffins are made in 15 minutes by @iamhayleyray . Using organic free range eggs with asparagus + tomatoes and basil. Cooked in the oven and ready to go. These can even be made the night before!

Additionally both options can be taken out in Tupperware or a shaker bottle.
Both options do require PLANNING AHEAD with sourcing and stocking ingredients. Items such as eggs, supply of  variety of veg in fridge, assortment of frozen berries and seeds / nuts in the pantry.

By planning and stocking up ahead, you save yourself the stress and time it takes to find appropriate options which met your standards which do not break your bank balance whilst out and about then complain about it.
If you do not like something, then take action into your own hands and do something about it when possible.

When the Special K ‘drop a jeans size in 2 weeks’ diet was at its peak in the late 90s, subscribers to it would have looked upon coco pops with the same righteous snobbery that the Duke of Maylebury inflicted on Del Boy and Rodney in that infamous only fools and horses episode.⁣

Instead of understanding the many reasons which caused their weight problem, people were literally consuming Special K for breakfasts, lunches and snacks because they thought Special K would solve their problems. It was an easy solution. ⁣
⁣
What was actually happening of course, was the consumption of bowls of cereal instead of meals - thus an aggressive, unsustainable calorie deficit. “Eat Special K” was the message, instead of “let’s look at the root of your problem.” “Let’s look at the host of variables which, over time, have caused you to become overweight.” ⁣
⁣
The assumption is that in 100% of cases, Special K ultimately did not solve their underlying problem. Because those who did lose weight on this extreme diet did so because they simply ate fewer calories over time, not because of Special K. ⁣
⁣
The thing is, during this time people would have literally been just as well off consuming equivalent bowls of coco pops instead of Special K - the very cereal that has been demonized as ‘unhealthy’, sugar laden and which inflicts all sorts of dietary evil on on it’s host. But it is in actual fact virtually identical to Special K Red Berries in baseline nutritional values such as calories and sugar. ⁣

Whilst the Special K diet has nearly been erased from the catalogue of hopeless ‘fat loss fixes’, it’s ideals remain. It has been replaced by concepts which offer similar short term highs without addressing the root of the problem. Meanwhile, the world gets fatter and desperation to change becomes greater. But until we let go of our appetite for ‘the miracle’, we won’t make any meaningful progress in reversing our problems. 🤜🤛⁣

🐝"I want to lose weight, how do I start?"

🐝Here's my diet plan starter kit.

🐝Basically a list of things to help you get started in your weight loss journey. No matter which diet method you end up going with (keto, intermittent fasting, paleo, vegan etc.) these points will still be quite important to your journey as a whole.

🐝1) Eat more nutrient rich whole foods. The general rule I go by is 80/20. Everyday the goal is to eat around 80% nutrient rich whole foods, and 20% of whatever you want. Eating 100% nutrient rich whole foods doesn't speed up the weight loss process, the 20% is just as important as the 80%. The 20% helps with consistency the most.

🐝2) Drink more water. About 2000-3000cc a day. Consistently, every single day.

🐝3) Snack less. Limit snacking to once a day. If the urge to snack is strong, try having bigger meals to last you longer throughout the day.

🐝4) Eat more protein. Try having at least one palm sized portion of protein with every meal. Protein tends to keep you full longer which is a great feat for a weight loss journey.

🐝5) Exercise. It 100% doesn't have to be the gym. Pick something you love and can keep up with consistently. Dance, skateboard, yoga, jogs, runs, martial arts, are all valid forms of exercise too!

🐝6) Stop eating when you're full. No exceptions.

🐝7) Only eat when hungry. Bored? Sad? Happy? Excited? Anxious? All not reasons to eat.

🐝8) Move more. Stand more. Walk more. Take the stairs. Try hitting 5000-10000 steps a day. Consciously be more active.

🐝9) Sleep more (7-8hrs a day)

🐝None of these things will happen over night. Take your time. Take it as slowly as possible. Usually only drink 1000cc a day? That's cool, how about try 1200cc for the next week? And 1500cc after? And then maybe try 2000cc a day the week after that? There's absolutely no rush.

🐝The end goal is to create sustainable habits that you'll still carry with you 10 years from now when you've already hit your weight goal.

You work out all of the time. You’ve been doing it for years - yet your arms don’t seem to be as toned as you’d like.

These are the most common problems I see with my female clients.

I’ve had so many women start training with me who are just doing the same workouts over and over again with the same weights. Stop the insanity! Increase weights once you hit your prescribed rep range. Please, of course.

The next two are the most important:
-
Time. No one wants to work hard, and do it for a long time to see results. But for 95% of the population, that’s the formula for success. Keep at it. I don’t know what else to say.
-
Reduce body fat. There is absolutely no way you will see the tone you’d like if you have excess body fat. No amount of muscle will change that. So, you can eat in a slight calorie deficit to lose fat, or you can eat at maintenance and take it slower to recomp.
-
As far as “arm day”, yeah, you could do that as long as you’re hitting your arms 2x/week. A better solution would be to hit your arms with compound movements (and some isolation) 3x/week. You’ll see the best results in your arms this way.

If you don’t have a distinct focus on the big moves: bench presses, rows, military presses, lat pulldowns, push ups, dips and pull ups, you’re missing the target. These should form at least 80% of your upper body work.

Last, but not least, you MUST consume enough protein to build and retain muscle. Most of my female clients - at least 80% - are not consuming enough protein when they start with me. When you don’t consume enough protein, your body will break down muscle to get the protein it requires. So do whatever you have to do - include protein shakes, Greek yogurt and other complete protein sources to get the job done!

Pairing two exercises (a.k.a. supersets) is a common training tool used to keep a workout short and intense. But you want to prevent pairing exercises that train the same muscle groups. The high muscle fatigue this produces tires you out for the rest of your training [1]. Instead, superset exercises that target opposing muscle groups.

Primarily focus on using supersets on push/pull, bicep/tricep, isolation hamstring/quadricep exercises or other movements that have little to do with each other (example: side delt raises & calf raises). While you train one muscle, the opposing muscle group is resting. After 1 superset, you then can take a 1-minute break before repeating your next set.

If you normally rest 2-3 minutes between sets, using supersets can save you a lot of time. Research shows that using supersets on exercises that train opposing muscle groups allows you to maintain good strength performance throughout the training [2-5]. So it's essentially a tool that helps you get the same amount of work done in less time.
