I was recently interviewed by a Journalist of the Metro newspaper regarding debt in the UK.

More specifically my debt.
This is an issue I have decided to share publicly in the hope that it helps others. Personal debt can make you feel ashamed, embarrassed and full of regret. There is hope and tools available to get out of debt and move forward.
Unfortunately, debt can be much worse in the UK for black households that any race, but ultimately it shouldn’t be discarded. Ignorance in making, losing and managing money is not an excuse in today’s world.

What do you think of the article? I would love to get another perspective.

Over the weekend, I contributed to an important METRO article about the Racial Debt Gap. ⁣

It is easy to assume that debt affects us all in the same way. ⁣

However, when we take a closer look by race, the situation is much worse for Black households for reasons of structural inequality (and much more) that are easily overlooked daily. ⁣The data also showed some Asian households have these challenges.

These issues should not be ignored because one way or another, they affect us all. ⁣

Just buy the f***ing latte, wrote @salliekrawcheck in @fastcompany recently.

Amen, we say! All this condescending talk about restricting our latte (or avocado toast or buying shoes) consumption shifts the conversation away from what really matters: the underlying (and often unspoken) systemic money challenges women face.

We're talking about the #pinktax the #wagegap the #debtgap the #fundinggap the unpaid and unrecognized #domesticwork and #emotionallabor gap, the lack of women on #boards gap, the #investing gap, and other leadership gaps in entrepreneurship, science, technology, engineering and finance.

Not only is this 'stop the latte' advice patronizing, but it's also coming from a mindset of scarcity instead of a wealth, honey money making mindset. If we're constantly focusing on what we can't do, we're not focusing on what we can do and how we can make more money.

So we at HoneyMoneyMakers encourage you to practise talking about money making in a positive, abundant way. What are some positive words to describe money? Freedom, support, options. What are some others?

Another exercise: Make a list of all the reasons why you deserve money. Add to that list how you being rich will benefit others. Tell us in comments!

In addition to supporting yourself, family and friends, you could buy all the lattes you damn well please. #lattefactor #bs #wagegap #pinktax

Remember how last week’s #moneymonday was about the #wagegap? Well this week we’re illustrating the #debtgap. You may have heard that women now make up about 56% of college enrollments in America, but did you know that rise in admissions has come with a disproportionate rise in female student debt? Yeah, women hold almost 2/3 of the outstanding $1.4 TRILLION in student loans, about $900 billion. In order to use education as a path to better employment, ladies are taking on more debt and starting from a deeper whole than their male colleagues... and of course the statistics show us that they will be paid less once they enter the job force, further exacerbating the problem.
