What a great weekend at the Natural Olympia. Huge congrats to @jennabiz19 on a fourth place finish in classic figure and yet another top 10 finish in figure. She has successfully brought her best package yet to any stage so it will be interesting to get the final scores. Another congrats to @didi_2.5 on a 3rd place finish in the woman’s physique division and is the 2019 athlete of the year! I’m speechless as to the tremendous amount of success that these two ladies continue to have. For now a little break before planning anything for 2020. #teamextreme #extremegym #figure #physique #proathlete #contestprep

Walking into this week like.......

Peak Week is finally here and I am in serious LaLa land. If you see me this week and I seem stand offish, it’s not because im being rude. It’s because I am 💯 focused on one thing only......MIAMI NATIONALS!! Ohhh and I’m completely exhausted, hungry, water drunk, and a little anxious! Ha ha .

𝗪𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫...𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐡𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐭 𝐨𝐫 𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐫𝐢𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐡𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐭?⁣

Often times I see people (especially around now and the new year) scrambling around and planning all the “new” habits they are going to start doing.⁣

That can be hard, difficult, and stressful. ⁣
It puts a lot of pressure on you to be perfect (which obviously none of us are), and that tends to lead to giving up.⁣

What if we looked at things from a different perspective? What if instead of trying to start a bunch of new habits, we look at getting rid of one or two bad habits.⁣

Maybe instead of saying I am going to start cooking every meal at home and taking it with me you just aim at removing 5 meals a week that you are currently eating out.⁣

Maybe instead of cutting energy drinks or pop out completely you get rid of having 2 every day and only have 2 a week to start?⁣

Perspective is everything when making positive changes in your life. How you frame things in your mind directly correlates to the actions you take.⁣

Yes you want change, but not just for a week or two, you want SUSTAINABLE CHANGE!⁣

Take a look at your approach and get rid of the all or nothing mentality and don’t be afraid to not directly add any “new” habits, rather focus on eliminating one or two “bad” habits. ⁣

There’s gonna be days where you just don’t feel like putting in another day, doing another workout, eating another meal or jumping on a piece of cardio equipment for the 6th time this week..

On those days it’s ok to pull motivation from outside influences. I wanted for my mom to be able to see me compete and there were a lot of days where I didn’t feel like pushing but I did anyways because of that fact.

It’s bad ass to say you have all the heart in the world, that your will power is stronger than any outside influences and that “motivation” is bs and discipline is what gets results. And that’s great if you’re at that level - but I’ll take every bit on inspiration and motivation I can get.

Motivation gives you a why, motivation is a good thing, yes you have to have some heart and something burning inside of you to get shit done, but there’s a balance between that burning fire in side of you and burning out.
-
Pull motivation from wherever you can, do it for yourself on as many days as possible and on the days you can’t - put in that work for someone else.

My old man got me this tank top for Christmas over 10 years ago when I was a teenager first getting into lifting weights. I remember folding it and putting it in my dresser, only to take it out on occasion, look at it and tell myself that one day I would wear it when I got big enough. Well fast forward all these years and here I am 5 days out from my second bodybuilding show as a superheavyweight, and I now realize that “big enough” will never exist to me. You guys know how it is. Always pushing forward but sometimes it’s good to step back for a minute and reflect on where you started. Just for a minute though. Back to work MFers.

When focusing on a back movement, I prefer dumbbell 1 arm rows compared to barbell rows. I get a better stretch on each rep. Achieving a better stretch allows for a stronger contraction and having your free arm on a bench allows for extra support to your core. The extra stability allows for a greater output of force during the movement. No big swinging, all tension locked and loaded on the lats. Legs are pushing the ground away for solid base. So even though it’s a primary back movement, my whole body is engaged. That’s how you build a solid foundation. I don’t like to use wraps either. This allows a greater mind/muscle connection while strengthening my grip and forearms too. You’re only as strong as your weakest link, so strengthen everything. If your grip sucks, a lot of strength will be lost with other movements too, not just “pulling” movements. @lululemon @muscleandfitness @menshealthmag

5️⃣ reasons your fat loss plan isn’t working.

1️⃣❌You started your diet on low cals❌
You can’t start a successful fat loss phase if you’re daily calorie intake is low prior.
If ya eat 1300 cals/day and wanna lose bf WHERE WILL U DROP FOOD?!? You’ll be living off lettuce in NO time🤣.
Beyond just feeling like 💩, your metabolism will down-regulate/become unresponsive, possibly cause hormone imbalances or thyroid issues ALL of which will lead to an inability to lose body fat altogether.
2️⃣❌You dropped your food too quickly❌
Your body wants to stay the same. As you decrease food, your body will start to use the food (energy) more efficiently to function using less cals. This is why we need to decrease food **slowly** overtime. Drop food too quickly and your body will become adapt to that crazy low intake + become unresponsive before ya get anywhere.
3️⃣❌You aren’t tracking macros or calories❌
Eating healthy, nutrient dense foods is GREAT, but calories are calories whether they are “clean” or not.
Either those cals add up and you could be eating in a could be eating in a large surplus despite eating “healthy” (lots of great foods are very high cal) OR, you’re eating way too little which will lead you to problems 1+2😉.
Tracking lets u make small adjustments slowly so you can stay in a controlled deficit + not run your body into the ground.
4️⃣❌You started doing too much cardio❌
Similar concept to 1️⃣. Cardio is a tool. If ya start a fat loss phase doing a butt load of cardio, WHERE WILL U ADD IT? You’ll end up living on a treadmill😅. Long term, it’ll work against ya. It can hinder recovery capacity, lead to muscle loss, increase inflammation and slow down metabolism making it much harder to lose bf.
5️⃣❌Your mindset is f-ed❌
✨Fast results are rarely lasting results. Expect a quick fix...you’re going to give up real quick. Be patient.
✨Bad relationship with food? Bad body image? Dropping weight won’t make any of those things better. WORK ON YOUR MINDSET.

Shoulder workout of the day:
A1: DB lateral raises: 4x10-12
B1: machine shoulder press: 4x8-10 (1, 1/4 reps)
C1: reverse fly: 3x12-15
C2: BB upright row(mid grip): 3x12-15

For the reverse fly, a lot of people struggle with feeling their rare delts. Yes! They are hard to feel but not if you are doing it correctly. As you notice in the video, I don’t go all the way back to try to keep tensions as much as possible on the rare delts. Other than that , my tip would be to pause at the contracted position for 1-2 second to try to emphasis the contraction of the movement. This way you will be able to feel more engagement on the rare delts.
對於Reverse Fly呢一個針對後膊嘅動作,很多人都Feel唔到個肌肉。 係! 真係很難feel到,但是如果做啱就唔會。 正如你在片中留意到,我唔會打開個胸咁多,盡量去保持住個壓力”tension”唔好走位。 除此之外,我建議是在收縮位置暫停1-2秒去感受下個肌肉嘅收縮。

Ich und mein Buch....
Ok ich gebe zu Trainingsbuch führen war nicht immer meine Stärke. Oft hab ich probiert eins zu führen aber bin doch ziemlich schnell wieder von ab gekommen. Nicht weil ich es sinnlos finde, ganz im Gegenteil. Meist hab ich’s doch zuhause liegen lassen oder der Stift ist mal wieder abhanden gekommen oder oder oder. Vor ein paar Wochen habe ich mich noch mal entschieden es zu probieren um wirklich noch mehr Ernsthaftigkeit in meinen Sport zu bekommen. Stichwort ist ganz klar Progression. Ich habe es mir von außen noch mit ein paar motivierenden Bildern ausgeschmückt um zwischen den Sätzen nicht aus den Augen zu verlieren wofür ich hart arbeiten muss!! Führt ihr ein Trainingstagebuch? Und was haltet ihr davon ? .

I’m still on a high from last night!! Stepping on that stage was already winning for me, walking away with some hardware sent me over the moon. I’ve been celebrating all day with food 😂🤢. I put in so much work and overcame a lot of self doubt to get this point, and doing it while being a working mother of 3 was quite the challenge to say the least. Anything is really possible if you set your mind to it. I’m excited to say that this is only the rebirth of my fitness journey and we just getting started! @m3machineshop

Being a perfectionist is a common trait I see with clients that holds them back from ever making progress. Seems ironic right? Wanting things to be oh so particular and not being able to deviate from the plan often, again, ironically creates chaos. When someone struggles with things being perfect they see a plan that can be executed at 95% to be a failure so a complete 180 ensues.

Logically, this makes no sense. A 95% plan is not as good as a 100% plan but it sure as hell is better than a 5% plan. 🤷🏻‍♀️ This ability to adapt in situations is incredibly important when it comes to your mindset + actions around diet and training. Even if you control all variables, you’re likely going to be confronted with something that comes up. That’s life y’all!

Maybe there’s a last minute schedule change or you’re in a situation where you don’t have ideal food choices. Don’t let these situations shut you down. Take a step back, figure out your best options and take actions on those options.
.
This is especially true if you’re wired as a highly conscientious and neurotic person. Ayyyy, it me! 😂 I can relate to all these feelings, and more, so it’s become an important part of my coaching style to not try and create the “‘perfect” plan but instead to create the best habits for my clients. ☺️

We’re all works in progress but this is an incredibly important thing to work on if you struggle with this. 🙏🏻

💥The Constant Comeback💥

Age adds up, injuries add up, and overall things just get tougher to maintain and certainly acquire ones best physique. I have been in a constant flux of pain and injury management ever since completely rupturing my left pec in 2015. Sure, I have came back and molded a photoshoot worthy physique such as the one here from a year ago. However, I am constantly troubleshooting pain and dysfunction that have resulted thereafter from that injury. I have not been able to fully train nor have full function since 2015. Some times this shelves me completely from training my upper body for weeks to months at a time, and others I can complete about half of the training volume I used to with pain and be able to recover. It’s a crapshoot, haha.

I guess that this is a post showing my relative discontent with not being able to at all times fully participate in what I love, as well as give hope to those who have experienced a major injury/setback and have the true inability to train fully at times. It can be done, but damn is it a much tougher road to traverse, haha. Just keep fighting💪.
