#SUMMER2019 #следуйзамной #улыбка #счастье #сочно #зелень #небо #Sun #bluesky #blue #instagirl #girl #me #deutschland #germany 🇩🇪 #Sommer #comefollowme2019 #like #mango #asos #жизньвгермании #всеогермании #Германия #яживувгермании

Been thinking so much this last week about charity and doing good...and how both bring me closer to the Savior.
Acts 10:38 “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.” So grateful for this knowledge and HIS example.

This is what happens when the scripture I want to letter already has a different verse lettered in the margins. (swipe for entire page)
.
This quote and the meaning of it from Elder David A. Bednar sank deep into my heart. Deep. I feel a deep responsibility to teach and prepare my Little Loves. I feel a deep yearning for my home to be that kind of place. I feel a deep hope for the future because although the world will become increasingly wicked, my home will be a haven.
.
Although no where does the quote specifically mention preparing a seven year old for baptism, that's what it spoke to me. I need him to know that it is a covenant, not something you merely do because you turn 8. I want him to learn why he must be baptized by immersion and why the priesthood is absolutely essential. I don't want him just to enter the font because he thinks it is expected. I want him to choose. And I want him to have knowledge so he can choose. So currently, my home has become a baptism preparation center. 💓

We’ve been asked: “What manner of men ought you to be? (3 Nephi 27:27)” I want to be a little more like Paul- a disciple who is both knowledgeable of the Word of God, but is bold in his efforts to share scripture (Acts 17:2). And of course, I’m trying to be like Jesus. “To know the Savior, then, is to be like Him.
God will bless us to be like His Son when we make an earnest effort.
To be like Christ should be the righteous aspiration of every priesthood holder. We should act as He would act in our relationships with others.” (Ezra Taft Benson, 1983). Melanie, @comefollowmeforus, this morning you stopped me in my tracks- bringing me to ponder the phrase “as his manner was.” Like you, I also want people to say something similar about me- I want them to see in my countenance that I’m a Child of God, one who through word and deed “proclaims that Jesus is the Messiah (Acts 17:3).” #illustratedfaith #ldsillustratedfaith #scripturejournal #comefollowme #comefollowme2019

Does anyone else feel breathless running through these missionary journeys? I have to keep reminding myself this is an extremely high level view of the time period but still WOW! ☺️
-
It’s helpful to look a little at each journey, so I thought the individual maps and some random stats would be fun today.
-
Paul traveled roughly 10,300 miles total. As the crow flies that’s roughly the distance from Los Angeles California to Rome. Or, if you’re interested in a round trip it’s the distance from Los Angeles to Puerto Rico and back again.
-
In a nod to Pioneer Day this week, the pioneer trail from Nauvoo to the Salt Lake valley was 1300 miles.
-
With the recent rise in missionary expenses, let’s look at costs. Although Paul may not have paid out of pocket for everything, the estimated cost of his journeys is 1,731 denarii. That’s a difficult amount to quantify in terms of what it would buy, but in the first century one denarius was a day’s wages for a laborer. So just for fun, let’s imagine 365 denarii are one year’s wages. His travels cost almost five years’ wages. IF we base that on a 2019 yearly wage for service occupations in the US (which is a generous estimate I’m only using for contrast), or $30,000, we’re looking at close to $150,000.
-
Finally, a timeline to stretch these chapters back out. From the best I could find, Paul’s first missionary journey took place 12 years after his conversion and lasted about two years.
-
After being home (Antioch) for about two years he left for his second missionary journey, which lasts about three years.
-
He traveled to Jerusalem for the feast of Pentecost, which would be late spring or early summer, then returned to Antioch. He stayed there until the fall and leaves for four more years on his third mission, to Ephesus.
-
He returned to Jerusalem again for Pentecost and was arrested later in the the fall, sent to Caesarea, then on to Rome.
-
That’s an adventure all of its own, and Paul never returns. After his first imprisonment in Rome his path isn’t clear. We do know 10 years after his arrest in Jerusalem, and about 34 years after seeing the Lord on the road to Damascus he was executed by Nero in Rome.

We are all in this together. We need each other. Oh, how we need each other. Those of us who are old need you who are young, and hopefully, you who are young need some of us who are old...We need deep and satisfying and loyal friendships with each other. These friendships are a necessary source of sustenance. We need to renew our faith every day. We need to lock arms and help build the kingdom so that it will roll forth and fill the whole earth.—
Marjorie Pay Hinckley
.
What an incredible turnout we had this weekend. We wanted to say thank you again to our sponsors and speakers who helped make this possible AND to each and every one of you who play a part in this community. Oh, how we need you! .
.
What was your most memorable moment of the weekend? We would love for you to share below!👇🏼

This week, the Come, Follow Me for Individuals and Families manual asks us to read Acts 16 – 21. In the Latter Day Parables, Auggie talks to April about her missionary experiences. She is so excited to share the gospel with her friend and invites Auggie to share the gospel with his friends too. We can all be missionaries!

Come follow me Week 4:
July 22-28 | Acts 16-21
.
.
I have to be honest, there are a ton of good ideas and printables this week that I even debated making one. 😂
.
.
I’ll share in my stories 4 activities my family will be incorporating into our scripture study this week. This is one of them. The puzzle goes through the account of Paul and Silas in prison and highlights all the major events. It is designed to be as long and drawn out or as simple as you want, depending on your family’s needs and attention span of your children😉.
.
Print on paper or card stock, cut and piece the puzzle together. Have fun with this one!

“We call on you to extend yourselves with renewed dedication. We want you to do something you have not been doing. We want you to watch, to feed, to tend, and to care for the flock and, in the event that some are temporarily lost, we challenge you to find them.
Why should you do this?
Because you love your brothers and sisters. You want them to have joy in our Father’s kingdom.
There is no greater work in all the world than that of saving souls. Incomparable joy can be yours when you bring souls unto Him!” ~Ezra Taft Benson, April 1983

Why should we do this? Because of love! Great message!

Elder Dallin H. Oaks of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles spoke of the importance of seeing ourselves first and foremost as spiritual children of God:
“Be careful how you characterize yourself. Don’t characterize or define yourself by some temporary quality. The only single quality that should characterize us is that we are a son or daughter of God. That fact transcends all other characteristics, including race, occupation, physical characteristics, honors, or even religious affiliation. …
“We have our agency, and we can choose any characteristic to define us. But we need to know that when we choose to define ourselves or to present ourselves by some characteristic that is temporary or trivial in eternal terms, we de-emphasize what is most important about us, and we overemphasize what is relatively unimportant. This can lead us down the wrong path and hinder our eternal progress” (“Be Wise” [Brigham Young University–Idaho devotional, Nov. 7, 2006], byui.edu).

‪July 22: Elder Oaks speaks about member missionary work and calls it an attitude of love towards those around us. He teaches that there are three things we can all do to help, no matter our circumstances: 1) pray for a desire, 2) keep the commandments ourselves, and 3) pray for inspiration on what we can do as individuals to share the gospel.‬

‪I really loved this quote: “Over the past twenty years, we have observed no correlation between the depth of a relationship and the probability that a person will be interested in learning about the gospel.” Woah.‬

How is knowing you are the “offspring of God” (Acts 17:29), different from just being one of His creations? ...
I have seen/heard many Mothers say on social media and in person that their children are their greatest creations. Of all the many beautiful things we create with our God given gifts and talents, our most wonderful creations are the beautiful little bright eyed children we call our own. ...
I can’t help but think that God feels the same way about us. We are each His child. Not just a creation, but His greatest creations. The ones He poured the most effort into, the most thought into, the most love into. And of all of His creations, we are the ones endowed with divine characteristics, abilities, and attributes. We have a part of Him in us. ...
And because we are His most beloved creations, He has created everything on Earth for our benefit and provided a plan of happiness for us including a Savior Who loved us perfectly enough to descend His throne above to die for us. All that we might, if we prove ourselves worthy, attain all He has in Heaven and live eternally with Him. ...
Do we not strive to give our children the very best we can? We do. And Heavenly Father has done the same for us. We are not merely creations. We are His literal spirit children and He loves us with a perfect love that we can only dream of understanding. We feel a small part of this love when we have our own children or love children as a parent does, whether they are ours or not. ...
Knowing our Heavenly Father brings a light and a spirit of peace into our lives that nothing else can replicate. It fills a void that nothing else can fill.
Who do you know that needs this message? That needs to know that they are a loved child of God?

"When the Lord calls the elders in Israel to “look unto me in every thought” and “behold the wounds” in His resurrected body, it is a call to turn away from sin and the world and to turn to Him and love and obey Him. It is a call to teach His doctrine and do His work in His way. It is, therefore, a call to trust Him completely, surrender our will and yield our hearts to Him, and through His redeeming power become like Him." https://spiritualcrusade.com/2019/06/12-quotes-look-unto-jesus-christ-by-elder-kim-b-clark.html

This activity was easy to put together and my oldest child asked to repeat it a couple times. I’ve found that if you introduce anything as a “treasure hunt” they are twice as interested. 😆

The whole church was praying for their beloved prophet, Peter, who was in jail. ⁣
⁣
A group of saints gathered at Mary the mother of John’s house to pray. ⁣
⁣
There’s a knock on the door, and young Rhoda goes to see who it is. ⁣
⁣
She hears Peter’s voice and is SO GLAD that she runs back inside without opening the door for him. ⁣
⁣
She tells everyone that Peter is right outside the gate!⁣
⁣
And these saints, who are all gathered around, praying intently that Peter would be saved and set free, tell Rhoda that she is crazy. ⁣
⁣
Anyone else see the irony there?⁣
⁣
Do we sometimes pray and plead for such big miracles in our lives, and then ignore the small signs that the miracle might actually be happening?⁣
⁣
And then dear, excited, sweet Rhoda stands her ground. She doesn’t second guess what she just experienced. She doesn’t defer to the older people in the room. But she also doesn’t argue or make a scene. ⁣
⁣
Instead, she CONSTANTLY AFFIRMED that it was Peter. ⁣
⁣
Personal spiritual experiences and personal revelation are so interesting because they are just that - personal. Nobody else is experiencing exactly what you are experiencing. ⁣
⁣
Sometimes well-meaning church members, family members, or close friends shed some doubt on our spiritual experiences. ⁣
⁣
But Rhoda did not crumble or doubt. She didn’t make a fuss or a scene. She just CONSTANTLY AFFIRMED what she had heard. ⁣
⁣
THIS is what softened their hearts enough to go check the door themselves and experience that same witness. ⁣
⁣
We can affirm what we know constantly in kind yet firm ways.

How did teaching your children Come, Follow Me go this week? Our daughter was giving me major sass when I was trying to take a picture of the lesson. She just covered up the puppet's faces and ate her snack. Oh brother. But in the end, the lesson went well! We practiced saying "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints." She kept saying "The Church of Jesus Christ Amen." Haha! Good enough for me!

I’m a Christian ❤️and I belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
I was at a friend’s party last night where my husband and I were the only members of the church. We were talking about where our kids go to university and when we said BYU they said something about it being a Mormon school. Since President Nelson’s recent emphasis on using the correct name of the church I have been more aware of doing so but...the conversation being how it was I didn’t correct them, but I wish I had. Sometimes it’s seems so arduous to explain the whole correct name of the church in situations like this but as I was doing my Come Follow Me studies I was impressed by a talk by President Ballard entitled, The Importance of a Name. In this talk President Ballard shares insights into why the churches name is significant. He said, “Every word is clarifying and indispensable. The word THE indicates the unique position of the restored Church among the religions of the world.
The words CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST declare that it is His Church.
OF LATTER-DAY explains that it is the same Church as the Church that Jesus Christ established during His mortal ministry but restored in these latter days.
SAINTS means that its members follow Him and strive to do His will, keep His commandments, and prepare once again to live with Him and our Heavenly Father in the future.” I really like that.
Hopefully I will be better at gently correcting others regarding the name of the church from now on. .

PASSION SUNDAY! Something that some don’t know about me is that I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and in such I am currently the primary president. If you do not know what this means it is equivalent to being being over the Sunday school for the your whole congregation. In the past I have always had a hard time teaching little ones and struggled with patience. Now, I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT! I love getting to see their faces light up as they recall the lessons from the week that were from the New Testament! I love their angelic voices when they learn a new song! This calling has brought so much joy into my life and I love these children so much! I have become so passionate about making sure these little humans get to know their savior and what he did for them. #teachourchildren #teachthegospel #comefollowme2019 #comefollowmenewtestament #comefollowmeprimary #ootd

Come Follow Me study thoughts: week 29
. .
In chapter 12 of Acts we read an account of Peter getting thrown in prison, an angel comes and frees him from this prison at the same time directing Peter in his purpose. Verse 11 of that chapter states thay when Peter was come to himself he said, "now I know of a surety that the Lord has sent his Angel and hath delivered me..." A surety. It definitely came at a price, but what a blessing to receive. .
.
He then goes to visit his fellow disciples and upon finally being let in, shares the account of being delivered him out of prison and encourages them to go and tell others.
.
.

Our lifes circumstances put us in our own prisons. Perhaps due to the actions of others, or even perhaps due to the actions of ourselves. But through the atonement we too can be released from these prisons and gain a surety from that experience of the truthfulness of this gospel. I believe what the Lord hopes we will then do is follow Peter's example and share our new sure testimony of that release, giving hope to others that they too can receive the same blessing. We have such beautiful opportunities to be instruments in the Lord's hands. .

I really noticed Rhoda for the first time this week in Acts 12. Everyone thought Peter was in prison, but the Lord delivered him, and Rhoda saw him first. She went to tell everyone, but nobody believed her - they even called her mad, crazy. But “she CONSTANTLY AFFIRMED that it was even so.” She didn’t give up on telling them what she saw. She didn’t think, “Well, maybe I am crazy...” and move on. She stood her ground and held on to what she knew.

She is an amazing example of being “not moved,” and I am so grateful that her influence is recorded in the scriptures! Especially during these last days, we need to stand our ground and constantly affirm what we believe, even when others say we are crazy. It doesn’t matter what others think of us...it matters that we trust in the Lord and constantly affirm to Him that we love and serve Him.

Edit: My lovely friend @makennahair pointed out to me that Rhoda didn’t even actually see Peter yet, only heard his voice and knew it was him. What amazing faith, to know his voice so well that she didn’t even need to see him to constantly affirm that it was him at the gate, only hear him. 💛

"Making our homes sanctuaries wherein we can 'stand in holy places' is essential in these latter days. And as important as home-centered and Church-supported learning is for our spiritual strength and protection today, it will be even more vital in the future." David A.

Have any of you felt any personal resistance to any of the dramatic church policy changes that have occurred over the past year and a half?⁣
⁣
We’ve got ministering, 2 hour church, missionaries calling home pretty much whenever, home-based curriculum, new children and youth initiatives, EFY/FSY changes, youth age group progression changes, civil marriages prior to sealings, calling the church by the real name....⁣
⁣
And more. ⁣
⁣
If you felt disappointed or confused by any of these changes, you are not alone. ⁣
⁣
In fact, you’ve got the company of the early church members in Jerusalem. ⁣
⁣
At that time, “church policy” had been to only preach to the Jews. But then Peter went and suddenly preached to a whole bunch of Gentiles! ⁣
⁣
The Saints “contended with him, Saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them.”⁣
⁣
Peter then patiently and lovingly explains to all the members how the events unfolded. ⁣
⁣
Peter ends with the profound: “What was I, that I could withstand God?”⁣
⁣
AND THEN MY FAVORITE PART⁣
⁣
These devoted members who were listening to their prophet, who were genuinely upset and confused by what he was doing...⁣
⁣
“When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God.”⁣
⁣
Wow. ⁣
⁣
1. They held their peace - they stopped talking about it all the time. They stopped creating drama or retelling stories about an example of when this policy was actually wrong or how things were better in the “good ol’ days”. ⁣
⁣
2. And glorified God - they understood why the prophet did what he did. Peter never said, “I thought it was a great idea, so I went for it!” In fact, he explicitly said, “What was I, that I could withstand God?” These saints probably took time while they were holding their peace and received personal confirmations that this was actually from God. Peter was just the message deliverer. ⁣
⁣
I think these are two beautiful reminders of steps we can take when we feel that resistance. Lemme say that I actually don’t think it’s bad to feel that initial resistance - as long as we turn to this pattern of letting go of the drama and philosophies of men, and then taking the time to confirm that it is really of God.

‪July 21: Elder Rasband teaches that when we face trials, we must always remember our spiritual foundations upon which our testimonies have been built. He speaks about the origins of his name.‬

‪Here is another quote that I just LOVED from this talk: "Generations are affected by the choices we make. Share your testimony with your family; encourage them to remember how they felt when they recognized the Spirit in their lives and to record those feelings in journals and personal histories so that their own words may, when needed, bring to their remembrance how good the Lord has been to them."‬

I was at a leadership conference for work a couple years ago and we were introduced to the concept of four different styles of planning that people have. ⁣
⁣
Most people fall into one of two categories: ⁣
⁣
1️⃣ I want to see the forest before I can see the trees 🌲(in other words, I need to see the big picture before you can start giving me little details), or ⁣
⁣
2️⃣ I want to see all the trees before I see the forest 🌳(I need to know how all the details are going to work before I can get the big picture) ⁣
⁣
I AM A TYPE 1. 💯%⁣
⁣
If I can see the end game, the final purpose or the desired result for something, then I am not one to get caught up on the details. I can let certain things not go according to plan, as long as I can still keep my aim on that end result. ⁣
⁣
✅ In a gospel setting, my style of planning works GREAT sometimes! “Big picture” things such as Patriarchal blessings or main doctrine help give me guidance. I don’t struggle with “perfectionism” with the little details. ⁣
⁣
❌ But I’ve learned that my style does NOT work with the way many of us receive personal revelation - “line upon line”. Line upon line?! Show me the whole book first and then I’ll figure out the lines! 😂⁣
⁣
I love Peter’s example in Acts 10-11. ⁣
⁣
Peter has a big, kind of confusing vision. While he is pondering, he gets the inspiration that 3 men are here to meet him. He should go with them and not doubt anything. ⁣
⁣
Those are VERY SMALL TREE details, with no big vision of the FOREST. 🌲🌲🌲⁣
⁣
But Peter’s FAITH is unshakable. No questions or doubts. ⁣
⁣
And when he is brought to Cornelius, he has to slowly gain more details and listen to the spirit even more before starting to piece together his purpose of teaching and converting the first group of non-Jews. ⁣
⁣
What an example to me! ⁣
⁣
Even though I PREFER to see the big picture first, my life has been (and continues to be!) a huge lesson that I can actually fully TRUST my Father in Heaven, more than any earthly leader. He will not send me down any path that will not be for my benefit. Even if it leads to discomfort and pain, it’s for my benefit. ❤️❤️
