It's time to get up, Monk; uni calls 🙄! But! After this weekend's walking practice, I'm going out solo #twolegsonly, baby! Miwi doesn't look too convinced, but I'm also stubborn 😉. *

Of course I'm slower, public transport is no problem tho, and I continue my "business as usual" day by walking across the bridge 🌞. Feeling good enough, I walk to lunch and back with my peeps 😍. It's about a mile there and back, mostly on cobblestones, but it goes OK. I walk UP some stairs too!! Ice pack from the freezer after is great though #foodANDice. *

Office is slow, so I do small stuff and finally(!) get to reviewing neoclassical realists in an effort to update my syllabus. Need to learn some new crap too 😅😍. *

I've emailed one of my physios, see if any individi session is free got a call within 2 hours, Wednesday morning it is 😅. Nice! I hope he can give me some tips on how to work the stupid scar.

I walk back across the bridge home as well. Knee is getting a little stiffer and I'm totally stiff when I get back home. On the bus, I can't shake the thought if I'll ever be able to swing my leg freely as in maegeri = which effectively determines if I'll ever be able to return. I can survive without mawashi, but without maegeri… I'll have no kicks at all 🙄 #basic. *

Can I do it without believing 100% I'll get back? And can I survive as a person if I believe, if I put all my eggs in this basket ...and it doesn't work in the end? I'm not sure I could take another fail/heartbreak 💔. Is it even possible to believe in something (long term goal) yet take it only step by step, day by day (short term) at the same time? How to stay focused near AND far, now and into the future, at the same time?

I cook dinner, stretch as I cook, knee locks up a few times #powerpuffknee, do laundry, do PT? In the end it's bike only, I'm stiff as a poker. And I'm getting flappy. Not necessarily heavier, but definitely much softer in my belly 🤮.

Well...it’s Monday and leg day!!! Started out the morning with fasted cardio and had weights for lunch. 🤣🤣 Not going to lie...today’s leg workout was a hard one, but I got it done. Legs are my weak point but we are making them stronger, it’s just going to take me longer, but I’ll get there. I hope everyone has a great week!! Stage 2 of the @girodelledolomiti is done and dusted. The short and explosive climb to #passodelerbe was really fast and I was on my limit, but I think I managed to limit my losses good and didn't explode. Nice and warm weather again with a great route through the mountains!

So, noch schnell die 2 Kilometer eintragen bei der Laufchallenge in #in30tagenumdiewelt bevor der Tag vorbei ist 🏃🏼‍♀️ 2x1 km gewalkt, 20 min die Arme trainiert 🏋️‍♀️ und meinem Fuss geht es guuuut 😄

Change can be scary, so the best way to tackle it for me is to go all in. New job (today), new city, new run route (starting next week) - it’s a lot. This morning’s run was almost entirely in the dark - which tbh it’s been a while since I’ve run that early, and it was a little scary at first. (I know a lot of you do this normally just to beat the heat but hey it’s new to me!) Anyway, you have to shoot your shot, go for what you want, and find time to fit it in, even if it means a 4:30am wake up call and a run in the dark. ;) Getting my run done before the sun came up felt amazing, and now I’m ready to tackle the day. (Also pic is not from this morning obvi, lol but a dark sweaty Monday morning pic was not something anyone needs to see 😜) Happy Monday!

Anything worth having requires work. It takes a level of devotion and consistency that not a lot of people are willing to commit to. It forces you to face your fears, stories, and beliefs, and to dismantle absolutely everything that holds you back from calling in what you desire.⁣

I RAN!! 90 days since my last run and finally it seems my body is ready to be out doing what the heart loves most. 😍🏃‍♀️

5 days before London my body decided that enough was enough. Managing plantar fasciitis, a flu bug that required heavy steroids, marathon training, 2 x long haul flights to USA, and all the walking in the parks = stress fracture. The consultants described it as the 'perfect storm'. Since then there's been real highs and lows with many race cancellations, but today was what I've really been waiting for; the start of the return to running programme.

As well as the wait for the stress fracture to heal so I can load my foot, I've had to wait for the plantar fasciitis to get better which can't until you can load the foot. It's been a chicken and egg situation, and totally frustrating! 🙄
.
BUT today after my 3rd session of shockwave therapy, and after doing reloading exercises for 2 weeks I was told I could finally run. It may have only been 3 minutes in total (it was 9mins walk, 1 min run x 3), but I ran. And I ran trail which was super lush!! 💙
.
So now I wait and if there's no reaction tomorrow I get to go again Wednesday, but with a decrease in walking and an increase in run time. It wasn't much today, although after a 90 day running drowt it was a #runhappy moment for sure! I felt 'free' again! 😊
.
Fingers crossed for no reaction tomorrow. . . 🤞
This runner is on finally on the way back! 👊👊 .

It looks like it‘s time for some (involuntary) rest for me😤 My ITB issue didn‘t improve in the past days, so now I‘m taking a few days off of running and cycling to give it time to recover and will see a doctor and physio as well. Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery🤞

However, that doesn‘t mean I‘m going to be lazy. Instead, I‘ll finally (!) include strength training and stretching in my daily routine💪 Always see the positive side of such situations which might look like setbacks: my legs will get some rest after 2‘500km in 2019 already, AND I‘m finally convinced that strength training and stretching are helpful! That might have been the final trigger I needed to include it in my training...😅

Whether you’re forced to or not, listen to your body and give it the rest it needs. After all, the biggest improvement is made during recovery phases, as weird as it might sound.
•
And it‘s also a great time to reflect where you came from and how you improved over the last weeks, months or years! But also what changes in your training might have caused the niggle or injury holding you back in this moment. In my case, it‘s probably been the increased mileage combined with the neglection of strength workouts and stretching. •

Diesmal habe ich mich von beginn an zurückgehalten und mich Platz für Platz nach vorne geschoben. Das Laufgefühl hat endlich gepasst. Nur so ist ein guter Lauf möglich.
