When to rotate an exercise

Stick with an exercise for as long you progress on it. Simple. Eeek every last bit of progression out of your big movements before changing them.
.
Don’t go chopping and changing everything at the first sight of slowing progress. I like to rinse an exercise for as long as I possibly can whilst still getting solid progression on there.
For somethings this is 8 weeks and for some it can be up to 12. At some point though, you will start to have to cut corners in order to progress, shorter ROM, quicker eccentrics, and so on. This is when you change an exercise and not before.

For example I worked the pendulum squat for about 10-12 weeks but eventually started stalling on 5 plates. I was not going up in reps and form was gradually getting worse.
I love the pendulum squat so instead of taking it out completely I decided to put it into my hamstring focused leg day. My only big quad movement that day, further back in the session compared to before and I decided to pause it for a slightly different stimulus. Finished my 9th week of doing them like that now.
.
95kg paused pendulum squat for 5 reps. It may not look like a huge pause but even that little time in the bottom makes a huge difference. Those who know, know.

The relentless pursuit to match my lower body continues. ♟

The final setup for the Barbell OHP is IN. Feel way more stable than previously, I think it’s just the fact that I have a surface to retract & depress my scapula against. My only issue is opting for more stability, potentially using a high incline approach with less back rounding or having a place to rack the damn bar. I chose the latter.

They felt very very good, my delts were firing up incredibly at all times. Looking forward to the progress in this, 1 plate is the short term goal which should come fairly easily. Then onto 2 plates, big boy weights.

Low Incline Press: Felt a little bit unstable in the first couple reps, from an exhertion perspective they did felt harder than last time. I thought I missed a rep, but ended up matching last rotation numbers. Let’s keep rinsing these bad boys until they’re 90 lbs. #LightweightBaby
This session:
- 85x7 (matched)
- 75x11 (+1 rep)
Next session goals:
-85x8
-75x12

Seated OHP: As I mentioned, this feels way more stable than the previous setup. I would prefer to be able to set myself for a High Incline Barbell OHP but such setup would leave me without a way to rack the bar. Most likely I’ll buy some deadstops for Christmas.
This session:
- 35x7 (+1 rep)
- 25x12 (+2 rep)
Next session:
- 35x9
- 27.5x12

Weighted Dips: Flawless Victory. They did feel a bit meh, but the execution was on point so it’s all good.
This session:
- 75x6 (+2.5lbs, reps matched)
- 35x15 (+1 rep)
Next session:
- 77.5x6
- 37.5x12

💥Supersets

☝🏼As a follow up to yesterday‘s post about intensity techniques, I‘m going to talk about #supersets today and how to use them.
👍🏼A super set usually consists of 2 exercises, being executed by alternating between the two. These exercises should not interfere with each other, so your training output and volume will be the most optimal in both of them. Instead of doing a single exercise and then wait for 3-6min to go again, you can pause just for 2-3min and do the other exercise in the meantime. If done optimally, your time at the gym will be cut almost in half while keeping your focus high and achieving the exact same training performance as a classic training style.
A good example would be supersetting a leg press with a chest fly(one of my favorites!). I am just as strong in both exercises as I am when doing them individually, because they won‘t interfere with each other.
☝🏼However: don‘t combine exercises that are both highly taxing on your nervous system(like a squat & a bench press) because it‘ll need the time in between sets to recover properly😥
👎🏼Supersets for the same muscle group... In my opinion 90% of people won‘t need that because it‘s just another intensity technique to „shock“ the muscle.
