The dictionary defines it as anything passed down from one generation to the next, as from an ancestor or predecessor.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ It means putting a stamp on the future, and making a contribution to future generations. It's the impact you make during these few short years the Lord has given us. The imprint that you leave on the hearts of others.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

I'm reminded of this word "legacy" more and more each day. It causes me to live my life more intentionally as the decisions I make today do matter. I would encourage everyone to reflect on this as well.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

I feel like there’s a lot of a bad energy around wanting things for Christmas. But I’m here to remind you—it’s okay to want stuff.
⠀⠀
My wishlist is:
• An instapot
• Lots and lots of home decor and furniture
• A Kate Spade
• Several colors of Converse shoes
⠀⠀
What’s on your list?? And you can’t say debt payoff or bills!

If you have several credit cards. consider using just one to make all your holiday purchases this season. Make sure you know the statement cut-off date & have the cash to pay the bill in full in January.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Credit card interest sucks. It's calculated on a daily basis (on average a whopping 19% to 29.99%) and if you don't pay the entire bill in full, interest is charged right back to the first purchase you made that month.Talk about a lump of coal in your stocking. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Since all things retro rock, why not pay for your holiday haul with cold, hard 💵? Makes it SO much easier to keep spending under control & resist any last-minute impulse purchases. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

We completed our 2020 budget (or plan as I prefer to call it) this past weekend. Have you done a budget for 2020 yet?

A yearly plan is something that my husband & I do every year before Jan 1. We make a yearly plan, which is broken up in quicken (our budgeting software) by month, and then we track it on a monthly basis, reviewing it every week so we know if we’re on track.
We start by forecasting our income - we take the current year’s income (the year is almost over so you should have a good idea of how much money you made in 2019) and increasing or decreasing based on raises or supplemental income changes, etc.

People have asked me how to budget if their income isn’t stable each month. If this is the case, take care of the 4 walls of your foundation first:
1. Food
2. Shelter
3. Utilities
4. Transportation

Then prioritize your spending for other bills after those are taken care of.
After income has been determined, we detail out our mandatory expenses. discretionary expenses, savings goals and charitable contributions. What’s left, if any, is divvied up into even more discretionary areas like vacations and household repairs (ie the fence needs to get painted next year). And, if we’ve overspent, we look over each line item to see where we can cut so we can maximize our savings each year because financial independence is our long-term goal.
How do you budget?
For more tips on budgeting, why it is the most important thing you can do for your financial future, and steps to create a budget, go to my blog post copied here and also linked in my bio.

How will finanaces look like in 2020? Have you even thought about it or are you willing to live pay check to pay check in the new year?
Most of us don't even have an emergency fund set up. We get so caught up in the thought of if are bills are paid we are budgeting WRONG!! Budgeting is thinking about all that you spend money on all the way down to that penny candy you bought the kids. It"s always someone saying " well it was only $1" Think about the many time that was you.

When we consciously track all our expenses we are surprised to find out who much mindless spending we do. How much money are you wasting in just one day?
Don't wait for 2020 to look at your finanaces start today small steps create big outcomes..

Some things that hubs & I do to save money. It’s the little things that make a big difference!
1. We paid our phone contacts out a few years back and now recharge with $25 credit per month. Recently I bought a new phone and paid for it outright. Not having a contract, saves us about $1,300 per year. 📱
2. I’ve stopped colouring my hair regularly and only get trims at the hairdresser. It saves me about $1,250 per year. 💇🏻‍♀️
3. When we lived in our unit (and was paying for our water usage), we’d take shorter showers and put a bucket in the shower for garden water. 🚿
4. When we were both working in an office, we’d take a packed lunch. Sometimes we liked to buy lunch, but for the most part we take our own. If I was to buy lunch every work day, I’d spend around $1,600 (averaged at $10 per work day). I now work from home so I have no choice but to eat what we have at home. 🥪
5. Scout out the op shops for clothing. I picked up a lovely outfit recently for only $10! The shirt I bought was in perfect condition. 👚
6. We don’t have a car now (it’s amazing), but when we did we were a single car family so we only had one lot of registration, insurance, servicing, maintenance costs, tyres etc to budget for. I worked out that having another car (one each like we used to) would have cost us another $5,000 per year (including fuel). Having no car means that we have none of these expenses, but we do put money aside for taxis and bus fares for when it’s needed. 🚘
7. When we did have a car, I used to fill it with fuel every payday. I had a budgeted amount for fuel and if I don’t use the full amount, then I left it in our account. That way, I didn’t ever have to worry about my car getting low.⛽️
8. We have a set budget for groceries each fortnight and try to eat mostly everything before we restock. 🥦
9. We rarely buy alcohol. We like a drink or two on special occasions only. 🍻
10. I now get a takeaway coffee every now and then. If I was to get a take away coffee before every workday like I used to, it would cost me around $950 per year.

Hey! Don’t mind me, I’m just over here trying to figure out what to do with an entire tree of ripe lemons!😳 I am not the biggest seafood fan but I do LOVE lemon pepper shrimp! I love the flavor the lemon pepper adds to the shrimp as it cooks in! 🍋 I serve mine with pasta noodles with a little butter and parm. But you could pretty much serve with anything or just eat them, like I do!😂

Lemon Pepper Shrimp 🍤
1 lb medium shrimp, deveined
1 1/2 Tsp lemon pepper
1/2 Tsp garlic powder
1/2 Tsp black pepper
salt to taste
2 Tbsp olive oil
2 Tbsp butter
1 lemon

Defrost shrimp under cold running water if frozen. Dab dry with paper towels. Combine flour, lemon pepper, garlic powder, black pepper and salt. Add shrimp and toss to coat. Heat butter and oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once oil and butter are sizzling, add shrimp and cook until crisp & browned. Flip over and brown the other side. (About 2 minutes per side). Squeeze 1/2 lemon over top. Do not overcook! **Please note the cooked shrimp in the photo as this isn’t what the recipe calls for, but it was all I had! Make sure you get RAW shrimp for this! 👌

Last week over 50 of you voted and 80% said “YES PLEASE 🙏” for some budgeting tips so here is 10 minutes of tips!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Let’s get right into it! Budgeting isn’t easy if you don’t have a plan. Gaining financial freedom if you will, or working on goals to get to that freedom also isn’t easy, if you don’t have a plan. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As @daveramsey has said “A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

When was the last time you looked at a bank statement and gasped? When was the last time you THOROUGHLY read through your bank statements to check for errors that could be costing you money? When was the last time you sat down as a couple and went through your budget? Or better yet, when was the last time you CREATED a budget? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So many questions right? And it doesn’t even stop there! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In this 10 minute IGTV you will learn some of my FAVORITE budgeting tips that help us save a little more each month and stay on track. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What do you do to stay on track?

Since on this page we practice generational wealth. A part of generational wealth is making sure you’re bringing your kids into a financially stable situation.
(Since they will be carrying on your legacy). This obviously isn’t to offend anybody. But for the people who are SERIOUS about building wealth, and doing it at a young age. You all know that having a kid early is a setback. Not necessarily because you can’t get things done, but now instead of focusing on you and your business, as your first priority. You have to focus on your child. Which your suppose to be growing your business FOR so they can have a better future.
If you’re being realistic you’ll most likely end up putting your life on hold for the next 18 years UNLESS you’re a VERY driven person who can raise a kid, build a business, and work a 9-to-5.

Not trying to tell anybody how to live their lives. But I’m just telling you from what I see and observe...just wait to have kids.
You’re not Kylie Jenner, or any of these rich celebrities that people wanna Vicariously live through.

This is REAL LIFE and I can’t tell you how many kids I’ve seen suffer because there parents weren’t ready for the responsibility.
Get a car.
Get a home.
Have an emergency fund.
Be In an actual loving relationship.
Have a plan!!!
Stop staying at your moms house and making her watch the kids because you still wanna get lit.
Stop producing more and more kids your not even able to raise. ***Don’t bring a kid in this world and be so busy working trying to make money to provide. That you don’t even have time to actually raise, and pour life into your child.****.

No one starts off great at money, and no one saves $1000 overnight. (Ok fine it you're actually rich maybe you could decide to save $1000 right now but let's be real, that's not most of us.) Anything that you want to do with your money - whether that's saving more, spending differently, learning the terms, etc - is going to take time.

Don't worry. That's *normal*. It's a process.

Budgets have been at the top of our priority list as we move through our #financialpeaceuniversity class. One of the ways we could immediately start saving was reducing our take out and to go coffee spending. As busy parents and business owners, it was easy to let the grab and go spending take over. Having quick and convenient nutrition that go in the car with me and also help me keep my energy up are key to sticking to our #mealplan .

Another one of my "things" much to the delight of the OH is that i look for #trymefree offers and #moneybackguarantee when i shop.
.
Today's offering.... organic cereal #alaro and #sunbites. I've never tried sunbites so if I dont like I have the option of reclaiming.
.
The second photo is of a haul i got a couple of months ago which included dog food, cereal, dolmio and drain unblocker. The others where from cash back apps.

What’s more stressful than being in debt? The never-ending string of phone calls and threatening letters from your creditors or collection agencies.

If you’re being harassed by creditors about your outstanding debts, you can regain control of the situation with a few steps by educating yourself about your rights and taking the initiative to face your debts head-on.

DEBIT CARDS 🆚 CREDIT CARDS 💳

I have previously posted about the dangers of credit cards.

For many people, myself included, they act as one of the biggest wrecking balls 🚧 through a monthly budget.

It was for that reason that I cut it up ✂️ my credit card earlier this year and CLOSED. IT. DOWN.

Now I do all my spending through @starlingbank (with its very elegant card an added bonus).

Every purchase I make therefore has to be thought through in advance.

Each 💷 is kept in its individual 'space' depending on the job that it has been assigned in my monthly budget.

Before I tap (and it generally is a tap nowadays), I check the receipt and transfer the exact amount into my current account.

This allows me to check the receipt 📃 for mistakes, and make sure that I have to think about every purchase before I make it rather than afterwards when the credit card bill arrives.

But without a budget, debit cards can be equally as dangerous.

With many of the high street banks beginning to change the ways that overdraft fees are calculated, it is important not to stray into it.

Last week HSBC announced that they will charge a blanket 39.9% AER for all arranged overdrafts - a higher rate than many credit cards charge.

💬 Do you often go into your overdraft?
💬 Will the changes to overdraft fees affect the way you spend?
💬 Do you prefer spending on a debit card or credit card?

Oh I fondly remember the uni days of partying all night, crawling out of bed for an 8am lecture (maybe) then slinking back into the comfort of my dorm bed. The normal bedtime was 1:30am, CRAZY RIGHT! Then I graduated and had to become an adult. Fast forward 10 years and here I am curled up at 8:30 ready for lights out at 9pm. Haha #okboomer

I’ve been thinking about our goals for next year.

The two things we will focus on is paying off James’s truck and contributing more into our retirement accounts.

I know if we are INTENTIONAL with our money, we will be successful in reaching our goals.

Have you thought about your goals for 2020?

⚖️ BALANCE IS EVERYTHING

One thing that can be forgotten when you are trying to better your financial position is that you also need to live your life.

Financial security should be practised alongside a life that you enjoy.

I need everyone to say this boldly and with assurance!!

It is time to change the narrative of our finances and declare that we ain’t living paycheck to paycheck another year. This post has been floating around social media and I thought it was befitting to make this an affirmation. .

Stay tuned for tips on how to stop living paycheck to paycheck in a future post. I want to give some application to this post as I know that some do not know how to break the cycle of paycheck to paycheck living.
