🔥🍩Doughnut oats🍩🔥 Sometimes I question if a topping is a good idea. This was not one of those times! 😂🤤🤤. This was  a big ol' bowl of 70g #proats made with @theproteinworks whey, topped with fresh raspberries, raisins and the jazzy chocolate brownie batter filled @krispykremeuk 🔥🔥. This was the first of the recent flavours I've tried and it was delicious! Clearly need to try them all! The oats warmed the doughnut and made the inside extra gooey 🍩👌. I then drizzled with @sweetfreedomuk because I felt the oats needed a chocolate moat 😋.

So, for the last six months or so, I've been unmotivated and depressed as all hell. I've been unable to squat due to an issue with my left leg/knee since around March. Not being able to squat just completely fucked over my motivation to train. Training for powerlifting/bodybuilding is my anchor. When your anchor, the one consistent thing in your life, gets taken away or put on the back burner, everything else tends to become somewhat chaotic. Life definitely got chaotic  for me. My mundane job became more dissatisfying then it already was and I was feeling really isolated. I ended up starting a new job in July and it's going well so far. I'm not feeling as isolated anymore. And squatting is FINALLY starting to feel good again. I changed up my form a little bit and I can actually say that I'm starting to feel motivated again. I've got a fire under my ass to get under some heavy weight again. So, the next few months are gonna be good. Let's get it! .

All credit to @emyogi_fit because this is baby tastes just like (even better 🙄) than Starbucks version!! This has always been my go-to food from Starbucks just because it was THAT good and one of the most macro-friendlyish items on the menu. They’re SO GOOD and now you can make them at home!!🤩

MACROS for entire wrap: 268 calories 22C/8F/29P

My macros/ingredients are slightly different than Em’s just because I was trying to use what I had on hand!
👉🏽INGREDIENTS:
🧀 1 whole Joseph’s lavash wrap.
🧀 80g egg whites.
🧀 50g spinach.
🧀 15g sun-dried tomatoes in sunflower oil.
🧀14g fat free mozzarella
🧀28 reduces fat feta.

👉🏽TO MAKE: 
1. Preheat oven to 450 F. 
2. Cook egg whites into a “egg white pancake” in small pan. Don’t stir. 
3. Place egg white pancake in the center of the lavash bread. Now sauté spinach with seasoning and cooking spray.
4. Place spinach on top of egg whites. 
5. Top with sun-dried tomatoes, then with both cheeses.
6. Fold by rolling like a burrito. 🌯
7. Spray with cooking spray, then place in for 10 minutes or until it starts to get crispy. 
8. Take out, cut in half, and enjoy!😻

In reality, if we load the bar with a heavy weight, we can't really lift the barbell fast, whatever the exercise might be. In fact, even if our effort would be maximal, and we'd try our best to be as fast as possible, the bar would still move slow because of the Force-Velocity Relationship. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
This principle states that as we slow the contraction down, more actin-myosin cross bridges can be formed, allowing us to express a lot of force. These implications are very important for hypertrophy, since for it to occur, we need:⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
(1) Full motor recruitment (which occurs at heavy loads)⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
(2) Slow contractions to allow enough mechanical tension to be experienced by each muscle fiber (which occurs at slow bar speeds, with heavy loads). ⁣⁣⁣

💡Results? Muscle gains. ⁣⁣⁣

On the other hand, if we happen to load the bar with light weights, we'd fail to cause enough tension on the fibers, although full motor recruitment would still occur because of the fast contraction. Would this mean that fast contractions with light loads are useless ? ⁣⁣⁣

It depends on what your goal would be. Since I said that different adaptations occur because of the specificity of the training method used, exactly different adaptations would occur. ⁣⁣⁣

In fact, CNS adaptations such as an increase in early phase neural drive would increase the signal at which the CNS fires motor units. This can allow greater force to be produced quickly, which can contribute to grrater strength produced. ⁣⁣⁣

Free meal plan in my story btw but when it comes to bulking and LIMITING fat gain, apart from ensuring that your surplus is small (Garthe et al 2013) there are two other DIETARY factors which can contribute to keeping you lean(er) 1. Adopting a high protein and carbohydrate intake and 2. Keeping dietary fat low

Correct, amino acids in excess of those needed for protein synthesis are preferentially catabolized over carbohydrates and fat for energy production as there are no real storage sites for amino acids or proteins, and that accumulation of nitrogenous compounds is ill tolerated (Owen et al 1979). Therefore, overfeeding protein results in the carbon skeletons of the excess aminos getting converted into GLUCOSE (Schutz 2011) via gluconeogenesis. This means that if you were to create a calorie surplus from higher protein intakes, after enough is used to fuel growth on new LBM, you would be more inclined to burn/excrete the remainder than to store it as additional fat. Result = you stay leaner

The same can be said for carbohydrates which come second on the “oxidation list” as excess carbs are often stored as glycogen or burned off as heat as opposed to being stored as fat vs dietary fat which can be directly re-esterified back into fat when eaten in excess (Horton et al 1995). This is because the process required for carbohydrate to be converted to fat (de novo lipogenesis) is an extremely rare and inefficient process for the body meaning that, after enough are used to fuel performance in the gym and/or daily activities, you would be more inclined to burn excess carbohydrates than to store them as additional fat. Result = you stay leaner
