Moerarchis clathrata
.
This Caterpillar bores into the dead stems of Grass Trees ( Xanthorrhoea, ASPHODELACEAE ). It lines its boreholes with a silk tube which projects from the tunnel and has a silk cap. I mean seriously? I couldn't invent this stuff!
Wingspan 2cm! (Tiny little moth! 🖤) Only found in the south of Western Australia! Another local one! #mothsofthegreatsouthern #Moerarchisclathrata

Cutting the fringe on the edge of this one took a very long time...

Despite how it might look, our 21 million objects and specimens were not affected by this scientific demonstration.

Artwork dedicated to Nature. A new feature to change. To represent these lovely Australian Sqirrel Gliders, I have used watercolour pencils and dry pastels found in Australia. And also a sample of Australian soil (0.35oz/10gr.), an excellent natural element for painting eucalyptus branches. What a special pleasure to draw Nature with as many natural elements as possible. (Format 65/50cm)
Despite the many Nature lovers and species conservation projects, the Squirrel Gliders are listed as vulnerable in NSW, threatened in Victoria, endangered in South Australia and common in Queensland due to the loss and fragmentation of their habitat.(Australian Museum). #squirrelglider #squirrelgliders #petaurusnorfolcensis #norfolkinpussiliito-orava #endangeredspecies #threatenedspecies #australianspecies #mammalsofaustralia #possum #australianmuseum #newsouthwalesaustralia #queenslandaustralia #eucalyptus #nationalparksandwildlifeservice #australianmammals #treesforlife #treesforthefuture #wildlifeartist #wildlifeart #naturalelements #wildlifeaustralia

Whoops - nearly forgot it's #wrensday!! I even have something for it for a change 😅 Meet the delightful little Purple-backed Fairy-wren (Malurus assimilis). This male and his mate were foraging above the Lawn Hill Creek gorge amongst the spinifex, eventually ending up in the shade of a Eucalypt where I got this photo. I've had ridiculous difficulty differentiating them from Variegated Fairy-wrens - as @jradbarnes.nature
can confirm - so my end goal this year is to be able to tell them apart without looking like a total eedjit 😅😂

공룡뼈보다 훨씬 멋졌음!!

Morning spent @ngvmelbourne learning about the Terracotta Warriors.. The discovery of the warriors was one of the most significant archaeological finds of the twentieth century. In March 1974, seeking water during a period of drought, local farmers began digging an irrigation well in Lintong district, Xi’an (China). Little more than a metre below ground, they unearthed fragments of the terracotta army, including a warrior’s head and a group of bronze arrowheads.. the warriors are made from clay and terracotta. The details of the sculpted clay were astounding to see.. feeling cultured. 😉 #ngv #ngvictoria #terracottawarriors #australianmuseum

What do you think of this vicious predator? looks quite scary, doesn't it?
Well, looks are often deceiving, some adult Lycid Beetles are nectivorous, meaning, they eat nectar only, while others, after they become adults, eat nothing until they die 😁

Hello! It’s been a little while, about 6 months since I’ve logged on. Hope you’ve all been well. We’ve been busy working on life and trying to ease into new routines. Lately Mimi has been saying that when she grows up she wants to be a scientist that finds missing people, rescues them and gives them medicine. Well we’ve been working on it. This week has been the first week we start kindy homeschooling and so far so good. The whole year is planned to include lots of ballet, zoo trips, gallery, museum visits and Sunday school. Let the adventure begin!

Posted @withrepost@cleanwavemovement. PLEASE READ - THINK - CHANGE - SHARE 🙏Every step matters🐬According to an article from the Austalian Museum, It takes about 450 years just for one plastic bottle to break down in the ground!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
11% of household waste is plastic, 40% of which is plastic bottles.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A plastic cup can take 50 - 80 years to decompose.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
An estimated 13 billion plastic bottles are disposed of each year.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Plastic bags and other plastic garbage thrown into the ocean kill as many as 1 million sea creatures every year.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Recycling plastic saves twice as much energy than burning it in an incinerator.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
An estimated 14 billion pounds of trash, much of it plastic is dumped in the world's oceans every year.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Every year we make enough plastic film to shrink-wrap the state of Texas.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1 tonne = 25,000 plastic bottles. Recycling 1 tonne of plastic bottles saves 1.5 tonne of carbon.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
25 recycled PET bottles can be used to make an adult's fleece jacket.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
13 billion plastic bags are issued each year -an average of 300 per adult per year.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The worldwide fishing industry dumps an estimated 150,000 tons of plastic into the ocean each year, including packaging, plastic nets, lines, and buoys.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Last but not least but certainly the most shocking is that nearly every piece of plastic EVER made still exists today.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Remember “Habits made today will help life tomorrow.”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

"What do you have there?"
"Oh, just an incredibly beautiful, opalised dinosaur tooth..." 🦖🦷 This image from the Australian Museum shows the opalised tooth of a theropod dinosaur that was discovered in Lightning Ridge, NSW. Such brilliant colours!

Say nite nite to the Pyjama Squid nation! 💤 They spend most of their day buried under the sand with only their eyes 👀 showing- this helps them hide as well as ambush prey such as shrimp & fish- but with the way this one is closing it’s eyes! I think it’s time for bed, what do you think? 😍

Native Drone Fly, from the hoverfly family. They are nectar feeders, and are larger in size than typical hoverflies.
I noticed that male flies are usually more photogenic than females🙄, the way their eyes meet from the top makes them look like some sort of a futuristic helmet..

Diamond Weevil, aka Botany Bay Weevil
I remember the first time I encountered one of these, I approached it cautiously, didn't want it to jump or fly away, I didn't know what it was, but I certainly thought its colours were crazy. I posted that photo to my instagram back in Jan 2017.
I have seen these weevils (and other weevils) having different reactions when I come close to them, they either hold tight to the plant and never move, or they immediately let go and drop to the ground and play dead. They have hard outer shells and can withstand drops from a few meters high.
Diamond weevils are native to Australia, found mostly in the south eastern region, they feed exclusively on Acacia plants, which unfortunately makes them pests, like most weevils.
Processing this photo took very very long, so it's great to finally see it make it to the small screen.
