Perspective is everything for me as a photographer. I had no idea what I was going to do when @persianskater invited me out to shoot with her and @rob.rast who were doing a v log for Rampage. Like how can a photographer keep up with someone taking video? I ended up finding my self on a pair of skates and still taking photos on a beautiful sunset in San Diego. I took this picture to challenge their perspective on how to take a #portrait Portraits aren’t just over glamorous pictures but stories to tell who a individual is behind how you know them. This is Bayan, the Persian Skater. A individual who skates with big over the ear headphones and dances on 2x2 @moxirollerskates from coast to coast. There you have it.

This diagnosis is one that I feel gets given out so easily and quite often. In fact, I was diagnosed and not even notified. I was told I was anxious and of course I fit the diagnosis, but actually found out by reviewing my medical records. Atleast 6 months of worry that disrupts a persons ability to live more days than not can land you with this diagnosis.

I was diagnosed during a high stress time. I was parenting a 2 year old alone, thousands of miles away from my family, and working on my bachelors degree. I actually think this is when my life became stressful enough that my worry overwhelmed me. Even unrelated things, such as friendships had my stress bleeding in. I began to think I was a failure, and soon after depression sunk in as well.

Ok, ok, I confess that this is NOT a conversation between two young men called Tom and Jack.💁🏼‍♀️ HOWEVER it IS a real conversation between two little brothers, aged 7 and 5, explained by their Mum in her hugely successful blog ‘Mum of Boys and Mabel’ 💜 .

She wanted to highlight how her young boys have learnt, through their mental health lessons at primary school, an effective way to identify whether they need to talk to someone about what is worrying them. 🥳 🤩
These two young boys are happy and at ease discussing ‘niggles’ and ‘stressors’. They know what to do if they realise they have a ‘stressor’. 🗣

They also know how NOT dealing with a ‘stressor’ can make you feel poorly.🤕 There is so much I want to say about this (and jump, sing and shed a teeny tear of happiness), but instead I am just going to ask - -

Do YOU?

Do your mates?

If you are a parent, sister or aunt, do the Young Men in your life know the difference?
Would they talk to someone to stop their stressor from making them ill?

Anyone else feeling the full effects of this full moon!? My god I feel like my whole world has been turned upside down and all my hidden nasties have been thrown to the surface, forcing me to deal them. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I am taking this time to be extra gentle with myself and to not attach myself to any thoughts my anxiety is bringing up. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
During times like this I also like to make sure that I am:⁣⁣

- Eating enough healthy brain food such as healthy fats and plant proteins⁣⁣
- Being consistent with taking my herbal anxiety tonic⁣⁣
- Moving my body in whatever way feels best (I’ve been enjoying walks outside in the sun) ⁣⁣
- Getting enough fresh air and sunlight ⁣(We’re just like our house plants 😂) ⁣
- Reaching out to my friends (something I don’t do nearly enough, I’m working on it!)⁣⁣
- Making an appointment with my councillor to check in and get back on track⁣⁣
- Treat myself! (I’ve booked myself a massage and facial as a mid trimester treat ☺️⁣⁣)

For anyone else who’s anxiety has been rearing its ugly head recently, your not alone! Be kind to yourself, reach out to your support network and if you are needing some guidance and extra help I have a few appointments left so get in touch! ⁣⁣

Dr. Masaru Emoto’s infamous experiment involved speaking positive and empowering affirmations to one jar of water, and negative and hateful affirmations to another jar of water.⁣

2️⃣Speak affirmations to yourself in the mirror. Phrase what you want to embody as the noun (i.e. “I am love” vs. “I am loving”⁣
3️⃣Know that the you who you are now has the possibility to become the you that you want to become. So thank your current self and circumstances because future you is going to look back and be so grateful for the experiences you’re having had now.⁣

doTerra Lavender Essential is a must have. It reduced tense and anxious feeling. Provides relaxing qualities and promotes peacefull sleep.

As I have struggled like many others with a certain amount of anxiety and PTSD, which means I often wake up anything from 3 to 6 times a night. In the past couple of months I have been using lavender to help me get through the night and have noticed that I am sleeping more deeply and waking less often. There is nothing worse than waking up feeling like you have not slept.

There is much that comes our way on a daily basis that challenges how we see ourselves. Emotions fly around inside our heads constantly. People let us down. All we can do is deal with life on a minute by minute basis, try and be self aware and keep our fingers crossed. Everything sent to try us is an opportunity for personal and spiritual growth. We can resist and carry on in the same old way but have you noticed how life will throw the same experiences at you over and over again until you ask yourself why this keeps happening? If you can look at things openly and honestly you will find yourself slowly changing and evolving. You can start to learn to let some stuff go. You feel less competitive. You understand people are many shades of grey and not just black and white. You learn to trust your instincts more. You realise that your happiness is your own responsibility and that sometimes you have to make big decisions to find your own inner peace. Every day is a learning day. Every day is also a loving day. Love yourself enough to seek your own happiness and love others because you understand their (and your own) fragility and because we’re all in this together. We might need to change of direction at times from those around us whose lessons we’ve outgrown but we can try to fill our heart and lungs with love and an understanding that we’re all just trying to find our way rather than anger and bitterness and go and live our lives in the best way possible. Imagine if we could all do that - what a world it would become. 🦋

You realise that your happiness is your own responsibility and that sometimes you have to make big decisions to find your own inner peace. Every day is a learning day. Every day is also a loving day. Love yourself enough to seek your own happiness and love others because you understand their (and your own) fragility and because we’re all in this together. We might need to change of direction at times from those around us whose lessons we’ve outgrown but we can try to fill our heart and lungs with love and an understanding that we’re all just trying to find our way rather than anger and bitterness and go and live our lives in the best way possible. Imagine if we could all do that - what a world it would become. 🦋

This woman means the world to me. She had my back through some of the toughest times in my life. As my editor at The Sunday Age when I was very unwell, Duska was the most compassionate and generous boss. We were a small reporting team of four when I was floored by a debilitating combination of anxiety and depression in 2014-15 that left me unable to do my job. But in the nearly five months I took off work, Duska never once pressured me to get back into the newsroom. She held a space for me logistically and emotionally as I clawed my way back to life. Her only concern through it all was for my health and happiness. It allowed me the space to do the hard work in therapy to get better without fear of losing my job. I honestly don’t know if I’d still be here were it not for her compassion, patience and friendship.
And when I was ready to return, she let me do it on my own terms. Baby steps. Half a day at a time. Then one day a week. Then two. Then three. Building up my resilience and my trust in myself until I was able to return to full time hours.
Yesterday, Sunday Age staffers old and new came together to mark the end of Duska’s tenure as she steps down as editor to pursue her next adventure. She has not only been a brilliant, fearless editor but a dear friend to so many of us. It was wonderful to celebrate her campaigning journalism and all that she’s achieved. But it also made me pause to reflect on how crucial it is for those of us who struggle with our mental health to have bosses who wrap their arms around us with kindness and understanding in times of need.
So if you’re a boss who has an employee doing it tough, please put steps in place to ensure your staff are supported. When I work with clients we end each session with a few action tasks based on their health plan and their goals...

I am on my own body reset with some big goals to end the year on a health high ✌🏼
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
First up! More movement, scheduled in...I always struggle to exercise in the evenings so mornings work much better for me and set me up for the day ahead, anyone else find that?

Also, announcing a new plan and gathering recruits and support makes it more real and helps when we feel a little lacklustre from our own cheer squad; so here is my project comeback announcement with my first set of actions that will lead me to my goals:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✅ I now have a new program at the gym (thanks to Lindsay @mingaraone ) and I will do a couple of strength / HIIT classes
✅ Barre, Pilates and Hot Yoga booked in for the week
✅ daily dose of nature walking the dogs 🐶🐶

We’ve had a big increase in people using the tanning equipment solely for medicinal reasons. We have several customers with Fibromyalgia, arthritis & other chronic pain related conditions. They come in & have a little 9 minute session & they say it helps immensely with their pain. We also have clients who use the equipment to give them a little boost of energy & sets them up for the day.

We really heard and felt everyone’s reactions to yesterday’s post - too many of us are trying to do too much for too many and we know that can’t continue. The awareness that things need to shift is a BIG first step. ✨ The next part is to prioritize YOUR needs. Take some time this weekend to listen to your needs. ✨ Sit in silence with your eyes closed (even if for two minutes, even if it’s in the bathroom - we won’t tell 😊). Close your eyes and listen to what your body is telling you, your heart is telling you - what do you need to do take care of yourself this weekend? And then try to do that. #yougotthis 💪💕
