1894 & now: View of the Central Park's Mall facing south from Bethesda Terrace. A competition was held between 1857-1858 for the design of Central Park. 33 vastly different plans were submitted. The winning plan's designers and genius behind the naturalistic park we have today were Frederick Law Olmsted & Calvert Vaux. I wonder what the other plans looked like?! #nycthenandnow
1892 & now: The beautiful and wildly famous Angel of the Waters statue atop the Bethesda Fountain in Central Park. Created by artist Emma Stebbins, it's the only sculpture commissioned as part of Central Park's original design. #nycthenandnow
