• 0.5 oz green chartreuse
• 1 oz gin @fordsgin
• 1.5 oz Fijian dark rum
• 2 oz fresh pineapple juice
• 1 oz fresh orange juice
• 0.5 oz fresh lime juice
• 0.5 oz falernum
• 2 dashes @angosturahouse bitters

Shake ingredients over ice/strain over crushed ice/garnish with pineapple fronds, dehydrated lime, and ground cinnamon

This drink is from a challenge by two friends to design some drinks based on the classic 1987 film “Broadcast News” for a watch party. I had them toss me some titles to give me inspiration and this sounded like the perfect name for a Tiki drink! Also this serves as an entry to August’s @homebarawards gin and juice challenge.

I’m fascinated with using gin in tiki drinks because on the surface it feels like it shouldn’t fit, but since tiki drinks are all about layering flavors, the botanicals in gin really lend themselves to a balanced tiki drink.

I juiced some pineapple, orange, and lime for the fruit juice elements of this drink. To those, I added falernum to really play off the citrus with some spices and to add a bit more sweetness.

For the rum I used Ratu 5 year Dark Rum, which I picked up in Fiji. I was very taken by Fijian rums when I was there earlier this year. Fijian rums share a very interesting mouth feel and manage to be very mild in flavor. This isn’t a bad thing. Instead I feel this could make it my new workhouse dark rum for cocktails if I can find a local place that sells it.

Of course, the green chartreuse really adds a kick to this drink. I love boozy tiki drinks that really allows the flavors of the alcohol to shine through and this definitely fits the bill. I garnished with a dehydrated lime wheel, ground cinnamon, and pineapple fronds.

Overall I’m DEFINITELY keeping everything for this drink stocked in my home bar at all times. Its flavor starts sweet with the citrus juice and rum, then lends itself to the spices of the chartreuse and botanicals in the gin. The falernum waits until the end to make an appearance. I love how it evolves across the palate and I hope you enjoy too!

#ad - It’s #MocktailMonday and time for another #MixMannMocktail, today I’m delighted to announce my collaboration with @thebitternote a #NonAlcoholic Amaro from Italy!

I’ve previously featured this #AlcoholFree Amaro it features over 40 botanicals including an infusion of 36 botanicals & spices, concentrates of artichoke leaves & bitter roots, an extract of Terriaca Veneta (a local herbal concoction) and a maceration of Angostura and Gentian
.
This produces a symphony of taste notes including bitter, balsamic, citrus, sweet, spicy, fresh and herbal. Great to drink solo over ice or in a full concerto with other players. The Bitter Truth asked me to create some signature serves for them to add to their existing recipe repertoire, so I’ve orchestrated this little number!
.
It’s a riff of a Jungle Bird Cocktail - a classic rum based drink with Campari and Pineapple Juice. I’ve replaced the rum by using a combination of the Amaro, Demerara Syrup and a further twist of cold brew coffee. For the final masterstroke replaced the Campari with Monin’s Bitter
.
THE BITTER BIRD
30ml #TheBitterNote #Amaro
10ml #Monin Bitter
20ml Pineapple Juice
20ml Fresh Lime Juice
30ml Cold Brew Coffee
10ml #Bristolsyrups Demerara Sugar Syrup
A pinch of sea salt
Garnish: Pineapple Leaves, Pineapple Wedge and a #Luxardo Cherry

Shake all for 20 seconds with ice, strain either over big ice or over cracked ice and enjoy!

This Non-Alc Amaro is good enough to rival the alcohol versions and certainly opens up the opportunities for further #NoLo recipes - No meaning #NonAlcohol and Lo meaning and #LoABV serves. With #SoberOctober on the horizon it’s another way to enjoy an #alcoholiday

It’s a riff of a Jungle Bird Cocktail - a classic rum based drink with Campari and Pineapple Juice. I’ve replaced the rum by using a combination of the Amaro, Demerara Syrup and a further twist of cold brew coffee. For the final masterstroke replaced the Campari with Monin’s Bitter

THE BITTER BIRD 
30ml #TheBitterNote #Amaro
10ml #Monin Bitter
20ml Pineapple Juice
20ml Fresh Lime Juice
30ml Cold Brew Coffee
10ml #Bristolsyrups Demerara Sugar Syrup
A pinch of sea salt
Garnish: Pineapple Leaves, Pineapple Wedge and a #Luxardo Cherry

Shake all for 20 seconds with ice, strain either over big ice or over cracked ice and enjoy!

This Non-Alc Amaro is good enough to rival the alcohol versions and certainly opens up the opportunities for further #NoLo recipes - No meaning #NonAlcohol and Lo meaning and #LoABV serves. With #SoberOctober on the horizon it’s another way to enjoy an #alcoholiday

An ‘Old Fashioned’ is a long drink made from spirits, sugar, bitters and water, and is the classic definition of a cocktail.
This drink here is inspired from the Chinese philosophy of Yin and Yang; playing with contrasting flavors of bitterness and sweetness, while at the same time, accentuating their harmonious balance.
.
Using eight different spices with both English Rum and Spanish Rum, Maple Syrup and Fernet Branca for flavoring before barrel-aging the concoction for 6 weeks, creating a perfect, woodsy, spiced rum Old Fashioned.
.
Finally, the finished drink is placed upon a Chinese chess board, and garnished with edible black-and-white chess pieces, thereby fully completing the Yin Yang.
